In a shadowy void sits a massive web like structure, the strands of this web stretch out touching what look like countless different worlds and realities. Traveling on this web is a dark, mysterious aura.
It has a tall figure that is cloaked in flowing robes that shift like spider silk, catching and refracting light as if woven from strands of stars and timelines. Their face is obscured by a shimmering veil of silk that shows flickering reflections of different universes. When they move, the sound of whispering threads can be heard, and their voice is a harmonic echo of many timelines speaking at once - ageless, calm, and eerie.
They are known by many names such as; The Spinner of Fate, The One Who Threads, Keeper of the Great Loom. But the one it takes as its own is, The Weaver.
The Weaver tends to the Web of Life and Destiny, ensuring that major threads (key events, souls, or spider-totems) do not unravel the multiverse. But sometimes, anomalies occur; stories so potent that they disrupt the natural flow. When that happens, the Weaver interferes setting fates in motion, making changes to the web, and observing the new strands.
From it's cloak a silver thread stretched across the dark, vibrating with resonance. This thread split into five others and reached into separate realities to find their targets. These threads flew throughout the multiverse, being watched by unfathomably powerful beings who didn't interfere and arriving in different universes.
While this is happening the Weaver is busy getting ready for what they will bring back.
-------
In a large ornate marble hall, a silver portal opened. From it, one by one, they appeared - heroes from broken teams, rival worlds, and distant timelines - all pulled by the same threads.
First to arrive was The Avengers, Tony Stark, Steve Rodgers, Natasha Romanoff, Nick Fury, Bruce Banner, Thor, Clint Barton, Wanda Maximoff, Vision, Bucky Barnes, James Rhodes, King T'Challa, Stephen Strange, Peter Parker, Happy Hogan, and May Parker. Most of whom were clueless but a few were able to remember what happened a few moments before arriving here.
"What in the hell?" Tony Stark groggily says as he gets up from the floor. Looking around he see's everybody else in their suits, either waking up like him or still unconscious.
Steve Rodgers looks at tony warily as he tries to remember the last thing before he blacked out. He remembered hiding out in Wakanda with Bucky after breaking out the others from the Raft and being on the run from the U.N.
Thor, who had his hair cut short, remembers getting ready to fight the Grand-master's Champion on Sakaar. As he mourns the loss of his hammer, he looks around muttering loudly, "What manner of sorcery is this?"
As the others all start standing up and getting used to their new surroundings, Nick Fury sits back examining the marble hall they appeared in that looks like something from Ancient Rome. Also next to the wall behind all of them he notices the portal and realizes it looks like it's about to spit something out. Slowly the spymaster reaches for his gun but notices it is not there and starts getting concerned.
Suddenly, the portal makes a gong like sound as it announces the next arrivals. Separately but consecutively, people start appearing; first is four unique people(2000's F4) who stumble from the trip, after them come two different versions of the same person(Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man).
The Avengers and the new arrivals all just looked at each other, everyone wondering what was going on.
While this is happening another gong sounds and everybody turns to the portal at once, with the same question on their mind; who is next?
From the portal comes another large, but strange group of people. At the front is a dignified man in a wheelchair and a shorter man on the hairy side with a gruff look to him. Surrounding them are the other X-Men(Days of Future Past), Ororo Munroe, Hank McCoy, Mystique, Rogue, Erik Lehnsherr, Scott Summers, Bobby Drake, Kitty Pryde, and Pietro Maximoff. Along with a young Jean Grey(Dark Phoenix timeline).
As everybody warily looks at each other wondering if they should fight, another strange scene occurs. On the far side of the hall, a blank marble wall suddenly vanished and showed the group a view unlike any they had seen before; the Web of Life and Destiny. From it walks The Weaver, gracefully gliding across the web into the hall.
"I'm sure you are all confused as to why you are here?" it speaks in a calm, mysterious tone.
"Yea and who are you supposed to be bub?" Logan questions.
The figure hums, "You may call me the Weaver, and I am the arbiter of the Web of Life and Destiny you see behind me. This web is essential to the multiverse, connecting the different realities that you all come from, and supported by the strands of life and destiny but mainly by the spider-totems in various worlds." It speaks while vaguely looking at the three Spider-Men.
"And what are these spider-totems you speak of?" Reed Richards asks the figure.
"Spider-totems are beings who have been chosen by fate to wield the power gifted to them to maintain and support the web, even unknowingly. The central and most important of which is the original Spider-Man or as some of you know him Peter Parker."
The hall went quiet while the Avengers all look at the 15 year old who has a confused look on his face.
"You're also Peter?" says 1st gen spider-man (Tobey)
"Me as well" 2nd gen (Andrew) calls out while raising his hand.
"So we are all from different worlds?" young Peter asks the Weaver.
"Yes"
Everybody is taking a minute to digest the fact that other realities even exist, except the X-Men who have some prior experience in this field.
"Why don't you all spend some time getting to know each other while I finish setting up?" the Weaver finishes as he turns to walk back onto the web.
"Setting up what? Why are we here?" Magneto asks sternly.
The Weaver stops and says, "you are all here to view something extraordinary"
He spends time getting the new groups up to speed with what the others know.
"There was an experiment I conducted years or... eons ago I can't remember, time is strange on the web. This experiment came to me after watching countless different versions of Peter Parker, all of whom had either tragic or sad fates, sometimes both, but not one ever succeeded or broke the mold of The Spider-Man. No matter how smart, how strong, how kind Peter always is, it never ends well for him sadly. His love life is destined to never see peace, his family is always the ones who pay the price for his mistakes, and with very few exceptions he nearly always dies early never making it to an old or even middle age." The Weaver explains. (f*****g Marvel Comic Writers!)
"Is that true?" Young peter weakly asks the other two.
1st and 2nd gen Peter look at each other and sigh, "I'm afraid so kid."
Young peter looks very worried, while Aunt May walks over to give him a hug, and Tony looks at him sadly.
The Weaver continues after they finish, "after witnessing all of these versions suffer, I had an idea. What if I asked the powers that be in the multiverse to help me see if I can change his fate with a certain catalyst? In return I was sent a soul from a world where the extraordinary was absent, where no gods walked, no superheroes or supervillains, nothing but the mundane and ordinary. This soul was in a unique state, not dead but frozen in time after an accident he doesn't remember took his life."
"With this soul I went looking for Peter Parker... all of them in every reality until I found what I was looking for. This Peter was different, smart, logical, and mature for his age of 15 years old. Explaining to him what I wanted to do, he accepted after a brief hesitation, eager for a chance, no matter how slim to change his fate, to be different from the rest of the countless variants. So I made a change to the web for the first time in a very very long time, I took the soul gifted from the one above and merged it with this version of Peter to see what would happen."
"What you are about to witness is a story of potential. Of power wielded not with hope but precision. You may learn from it. Or you may fear it. Either way... you will not forget this hero. But first you need background knowledge." The weaver finishes, waving its arm towards a wall that suddenly had two doors where there were not any before.
It explains, "In the door on the left you will find a theater like the ones you are familiar with to view the stories. And on the right is a room where you will find films and comic books about you... these books were written by great minds who were given access to the worlds of you and your alternate selves through there dreams. These minds were chosen to spread your stories through the omniverse to worlds such as the one the soul came from where the extraordinary isn't possible. Use them to familiarize yourselves with each other, and to learn your stories and get the knowledge needed for what you are about to see."
-------
After exploring both rooms and reading through some of the books the large group of heroes took the films that were marked to watch and sat in the theater to watch them. Most of the Avengers were familiar with most of these events but the other groups were not.
As they sat they lost track of time immersed in the stories and getting through; Iron Man 1, The Incredible Hulk, Iron man 2, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, The Fantastic Four(2005) and the Avengers all in one sitting.
They watched as Stark forged a suit in a cave, his arrogance hardening into purpose. Steve Rogers, defrosted in a world that forgot honor. And in New York, gods and monsters clashed as Loki manipulated events.
-------
Watching Iron Man's escape from the cave, 2nd gen Peter frowns.
"Your 'heroes' build their legacies in blood?" Peter asked the Avengers.
"Yes... yours don't?" Tony replies sarcastically.
"I was trapped in a cave, in the middle of the desert, surrounded by terrorists, so I'm sorry I wasn't focused on the ethics of my action at the moment."
"As far as I know, I'm the only one in my world, so I don't know" Peter dismisses him.
"The only one, seriously?" asks Bruce.
"I've never met any one else, and none of you exist in my world." He replies.
-------
Seeing Cap training and jumping on the grenade, 1st gen Peter looks over at Steve.
"You didn't even hesitate?" He asks him.
Steve looks over earnestly saying, "no, I didn't."
Peter smiles turning back to the screen.
-------
Watching the chaotic Battle of New York, Scott Summers looks concerned.
"This is what passes for teamwork here?" He asks worriedly.
"Well as you can tell we didn't get off to a great start." Natasha answers while shrugging her shoulders.
-------
After finishing the Weaver comes back and announces, "on the other side of the hall there are doors to the bedrooms for all of you to get some rest before we start the main story. And you shouldn't worry about your worlds because they were frozen in time as soon as you left, waiting for your return. Have a good night to you all."
Saying that he walks back onto the web and disappears in the strands while everyone goes to get some sleep.
