Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: A Person Has Only One Destiny

Victor was born in Sea Calendar 1495 in Kore village, West Blue, a small fishing village primarily sustained by fishing.

Victor Cassio, Victor's father, was a simple fisherman. He was taciturn and dutiful. After his beloved wife died in childbirth while giving birth to Victor, he poured all his love into his son.

Victor's life before the age of seven was simple and peaceful. Influenced by his father, he avoided fights and trouble, possessing a gentle but quiet disposition. His only hobbies, besides going fishing with his father, were reading.

However, Victor harbored a small secret: ever since he could remember, he would occasionally hear voices directly in his mind. Victor told his father about it, but after seeing several doctors, there was no explanation. To prevent his father from worrying further, Victor told his first lie: he told his father that he had miraculously recovered and could no longer hear those strange voices.

In reality, he heard them more clearly.

In Sea Calendar 1502, Victor and his father, seeing the good weather, went fishing as usual.

However, the sea, like a jealous woman, was fickle. One moment it was calm, the next a storm descended.

The sky grew dark and lightless, and violent streaks of lightning ripped through the black clouds. The small fishing boat tossed and turned helplessly amidst the raging winds and giant waves.

Victor Cassio, this great father, crammed his son into the only empty wooden barrel on the boat, then used his last ounce of strength to hurl the barrel far out into the sea.

"My dear Victor, a person has only one destiny. My destiny has arrived; your mother has come to greet me. But you still have hope, you must live well!"

A giant wave swallowed the lonely boat.

When Victor awoke, he found himself in the Kore village clinic. The doctor told him that passing fishermen had found him unconscious on the beach along with scattered fragments of the wooden barrel. But unfortunately, they hadn't found old Cassio.

Victor neither cried nor made a fuss. Instead, he disregarded the doctor's advice and insisted on leaving the clinic to return home. He sat blankly on the steps of his house, his heart filled with sorrow but unable to shed a single tear, his chest brimming with anger but nowhere to direct it.

Unconsciously, he curled up at his doorstep and fell into a deep sleep.

Victor had a dream, a strange and long dream.

In the dream, he was born in a prosperous and peaceful country, with loving parents. Though there were scattered conflicts in the world he inhabited, those troubles were far from him. He had a name, but he couldn't remember it. His parents nurtured him meticulously, but their faces were indistinct.

In the dream, he lacked ambition, preferring to stay home and watch anime.

On his 15th birthday, he finished reading manga as usual and lay on his bed to rest. When he opened his eyes again, he saw familiar yet unfamiliar steps.

He was back.

It took Victor a full two days to sort through his thoughts. He couldn't distinguish which was reality and which was the dream. However, a seed named 'ambition' began to sprout and grow in Victor's heart.

So, I wasn't sick after all; that was a high-level power called 'Observation Haki'! This is the world of One Piece! Knowing the plot, I too have the right to reach the pinnacle of this world!

But Victor soon discovered subtle differences between his current world and the manga. For instance, two months later, Victor found a pink-haired little girl on the beach.

Her parents had tragically died in a shipwreck, and she had luckily drifted to this island clinging to a piece of driftwood.

The little girl's name was Perona.

Victor scratched his head. According to the original plot, Perona should have been adopted by the West Blue hero Gecko Moria when she was little.

But looking at the pink-haired Little girl crying loudly in front of him, the gentle-natured Victor couldn't bring himself to just leave her.

Should he gamble on when Gecko Moria would pass by and take her in?

Victor's ears seemed to echo his father's dying words – A person has only one destiny.

"Alright... then, Perona, would you like to live with me? From now on, I'll be Perona's family."

The pink-haired Little girl, her eyes blurred with tears, looked at the older Onii-chan kneeling before her, gently asking. Suddenly, she didn't feel so scared anymore.

"Mm... Please, please take care of me, onii-chan."

The slender boy held the pink-haired young girl's small hand and walked towards the village clinic. Several hours later, a black pirate ship with a skull decorated bow appeared near the coast.

"Boss Moria! What's wrong?" A sailor on the ship loudly asked the tall man leaning against the railing.

This man had brown, onion-shaped hair, a tall and robust physique, two horns on the sides of his head, crisscross sutures resembling surgical scars on his forehead, and he wore an ornate Gothic shirt.

He glanced once more at the empty beach, then laughed heartily and walked towards the ship's helm. "Hee hee hee hee... What lovely weather! I want to steer the ship, leave it to me!!"

"No, no, Captain!! Ab, stop the Captain! Otherwise, we'll have to repair the ship again!"

"No one can stop the Captain when he's being willful! Hey! Idiot Captain, turn the rudder, we're going to crash!"

"Hee hee hee hee... Don't worry, don't worry, leave it to me!"

The noisy black pirate ship gradually sailed away. Strangely enough, the turning point of destiny had quietly appeared.

Years passed, and the villagers gradually grew accustomed to the new member of Victor's household, the cheerful little girl Perona. This child had unusual interests, especially a fondness for dark-themed decorations and gothic rock music. In the second year of adopting Perona, Victor discovered she was a Devil Fruit user; her ability was the Ghost-Ghost Fruit.

Victor went to great lengths to coax Perona into smiling again after she cried. She had apparently always thought herself abnormal, fearing Victor would despise her and thus hesitating to reveal her ghost abilities. Victor spent a long time educating Perona about Devil Fruits, which also reminded him that it was time to start seeking a suitable Devil Fruit for himself.

After years of training, Victor's previously inconsistent Observation Haki gradually stabilized. At the same time, this innate talent began to reveal its terrifying nature. Victor's Observation Haki not only possessed both range and precision advantages but also had a special effect—Revelation.

This heaven-sent Observation Haki allowed Victor to identify an object's general properties when he focused intensely on it. It was as if divine revelation, with information naturally surfacing in his mind. Although it consumed a lot of stamina, for Victor, who had never seen a Devil Fruit encyclopedia, this was simply the best talent.

In Sea Calendar 1506, Victor, who had been secluded on the island practicing diligently, learned about the Zip-Zip Fruit from the newspaper. While everyone was scoffing at the Zip-Zip Fruit, Victor was unusually shocked.

That's right, this ability definitely appeared in a manga I read in my dream!

After careful recollection, Victor confirmed that the Zip-Zip Fruit's ability was extremely similar to Bruno Bucciarati's Stand ability, Sticky Fingers, from the manga JoJo's Bizarre Adventure that he had seen in his dream.

It was a pity, Victor rarely experienced such complex emotions. If it were this fruit, he would certainly be able to make it shine! It was just a shame that the Zip-Zip Fruit had disappeared with the death of that Marine.

A person has only one destiny. Victor always felt that he had an unbreakable connection with that Zip-Zip Fruit.

Four years later, one day, Victor, as usual, infiltrated the largest underground black market auction in the West Blue, hoping to find a desirable Devil Fruit up for auction. Coincidentally, Talma Pippin, the boss of the 'Coral' organization, had just acquired a Devil Fruit and put it up for auction. Victor, from below the stage, immediately recognized it as the Zip-Zip Fruit he had been longing for, thanks to his special Observation Haki!

Understanding the Zip-Zip Fruit's awkward situation in Pippin's hands, Victor decided to join the 'Coral' organization with Perona.

This was a carefully considered decision. His short-term goals were two: the Zip-Zip Fruit and the leadership of 'Coral'. Stealing or seizing them were lowly acts he disdained.

Thus, there was only one path: join 'Coral', exchange his merits for the Zip-Zip Fruit, and then defeat Pippin in a fair one-on-one battle, seizing 'Coral's' leadership without violating any rules.

Moreover, he could use his high-precision, wide-ranging Observation Haki to monitor Pippin's treasure vault, preventing anyone from eating the Zip-Zip Fruit prematurely.

Victor's decision was not mistaken.

After joining the gang, extensive real combat experience allowed his strength to skyrocket. He also discovered that his physical strength and constitution were extraordinary; despite his ordinary physique, he possessed immeasurable power.

Finally, two years later, Victor obtained the Zip-Zip Fruit and the leadership of 'Coral' he desired. The appearance of the other two gang leaders on the battlefield was also part of his plan. He intended to seize this opportune moment to eliminate the other two major West Blue gang leaders and completely unify the West Blue's underworld!

"Horohorohoro... Victor-onii-chan, will defeating these two uncles complete the first stage of our goal?" The dainty, pink-haired girl slowly floated down beside Victor, playfully twirling her small parasol, completely disregarding the two gang bosses opposite them.

"Exactly, Perona. A person has only one destiny. Our destiny belongs at the peak of the world. Let's finish them!"
