A night of tenderness was the beginning of a new life.
When Morgan and Cang Ye awoke the next day in the grand bed of the royal castle, they immediately began the tireless work of managing the newborn Kingdom of Camelot.
As it turned out, being a king was no simple task.
Although she had only inherited the Camelot of Uther's era, and currently only needed to manage the single city of Camelot, it was still quite difficult for the first-time king, Morgan.
Fortunately, while Morgan was a novice as a king, as a magus, she was on an entirely different level.
As the saying goes, a new official lights three fires. With Cang Ye's assistance, Morgan introduced several policies to win the hearts of the people.
For example, she lowered Uther's absurdly high taxes, encouraged the populace to offer her suggestions, and dispatched personnel to solve various social problems.
It was clear that the advice Cang Ye gave Morgan was to lean slightly towards a more populist route within the framework of a feudal kingdom.
This might diminish the king's authority and prestige to some extent, but given that Britain was plagued by constant warfare, the people were suffering, and Morgan's reputation was poor, this was undoubtedly the optimal solution.
In addition, Morgan specifically used magecraft to plant high-yield food crops on the expanded lands of Camelot—crops that could ignore seasons, absorb magical energy, and grow on their own.
This solved the potential food crisis that could have arisen from early trade blockades.
This, of course, was also Cang Ye's suggestion.
As a transmigrator with a consciousness centuries ahead of medieval Britain, Cang Ye had a very clear view of magecraft.
It was a divine tool with infinite possibilities, applicable to development in every field, yet it was hoarded like a family heirloom by stubborn and arrogant magi who refused to use it for the public good.
What Morgan was doing now could also be achieved in Cang Ye's era; in fact, combined with technology, it could produce even better results and benefit more people.
But it was a pity that the old fossils at the Clock Tower and the Mage's Association would never allow such a possibility and would even suppress it.
Returning to the topic, after finishing these tasks, Morgan's energy was clearly depleted.
Most nights, she would let Cang Ye take the initiative, and sometimes she would fall asleep as soon as she lay down.
This made Cang Ye feel both sorry for her and a little amused.
So, after careful consideration, Cang Ye suggested that Morgan recruit some talented individuals to serve as ministers to share the heavy burden on her shoulders.
This was, of course, a good thing.
However, when Morgan saw the recruitment poster Cang Ye had hand-drawn—a picture of herself pointing at the viewer with the caption "Have you pledged loyalty to the Queen today?"—she couldn't help but feel exhausted.
In the end, she took the time herself to personally recruit a batch of reasonably competent individuals from the people of Camelot and, along with the soldiers, placed them under a suggestion spell.
This was both a reflection of Morgan's distrust of anyone besides Cang Ye and a safeguard for the new Camelot.
After all, news that Morgan had inherited the legitimate name of the Kingdom of Camelot had already spread, and such a rightful position would naturally attract covetous eyes.
One must always be on guard.
And so, after a period of hardship, Morgan's Kingdom of Camelot finally began to operate normally.
The common people saw Morgan's actions, and their impression of her improved considerably.
And when they cast aside their prejudices, people also began to notice Morgan's appearance.
Morgan had not worn a veil during the coronation ceremony. After everything settled down, her stunningly beautiful face would inevitably appear in everyone's minds.
Oh, our new queen is so beautiful! Just like a fairy!
And so, with Cang Ye paying a dozen bards to sing praises of Morgan's virtues and deeds—with a promise that any bard who spread these stories could collect five silver coins in Camelot—the name of Queen Morgan le Fay of Camelot began to spread to the outside world.
Just as everything seemed to be getting better, a piece of news spread throughout Britain like thunder.
A young knight named 'Artorius' had finally pulled the Sword in the Stone, the symbol of Britain's royal glory. He was then personally acknowledged by the grand court magus, Merlin, as King Uther's long-lost child, possessing the purest royal blood of Britain.
And so, the eyes of all Britain turned to this previously unknown young knight.
Most people, out of their own convictions, adopted a wait-and-see attitude, but there were still nobles and knights loyal to Uther who declared their allegiance to him.
It was then that Cang Ye and Morgan understood why that group of nobles had been so evasive before; Uther had already informed them.
They were waiting for the Child of the Red Dragon, the prophesied Perfect King, to appear.
Regarding this matter, Morgan's attitude was somewhat subtle.
"Lamorak, you've had contact with that Artorius. What kind of person do you think he is?"
That night, in the garden of Camelot Castle, Morgan gently brushed her fingers over the flowers as she asked Cang Ye, who was attending her by her side.
Cang Ye recalled the Artorius he had seen and interacted with in the previous simulation, and then replied.
"The Artorius I met was only about 11 or 12 years old, a boy who had just begun to learn the way of the sword."
"But I could see that his talent was very high. If he has maintained that level over the past few years, he should be a very strong knight."
Morgan frowned at Cang Ye's answer and glanced back at him.
"What I want to know is not how strong he is, but what kind of person he is, and whether he has the capacity to be a king."
"You should understand what I mean, Knight Lamorak."
"This subordinate was wrong, Your Majesty."
Hearing Morgan's words, Cang Ye immediately dropped to one knee, struck his chest with his right hand, and admitted his mistake to Morgan.
"Continue."
A flicker of satisfaction crossed Morgan's eyes at Cang Ye's display. She loved how her knight was so obedient to her every word.
It gave her a sense of being cherished by a treasured possession, a satisfaction and joy akin to that of a little girl.
"Yes, Your Majesty."
Cang Ye continued, "I only interacted with her for a short time back then and didn't get to know her deeply. I only felt that she was very stubborn, very humble, and... hmm..."
Cang Ye thought for a moment and added another sentence.
"She's also a big eater."
?
A few dark lines appeared on Morgan's forehead.
"However, I did ask her about her ideals. She said it was something very important, very grand, something that carried the hopes and destinies of many people."
Cang Ye recalled the golden-haired youth under the setting sun, somewhat shy, yet extremely earnest and serious, and couldn't help but feel a little moved.
"But I could tell that it wasn't her true ideal. At least, not her ideal."
"Someone who truly has their own ideals is happy and full of anticipation when they talk about their dreams."
"But when Artorius spoke of it, she was serious and solemn, as if facing a mission that had to be completed, a fate that was bound to happen."
Pathetic and pitiful.
For some reason, after saying this, such a thought popped into Cang Ye's mind.
Is a borrowed ideal truly an ideal?
The king that such an Artorius—no, an Artoria—could become might be perfect, but she would never be a person.
Listening to Cang Ye's answer, Morgan was silent for a long time.
When she came back to her senses, the flower she had been holding had been crushed into a pile of broken stems and leaves.
"The 'Perfect King' created by Father and Merlin..."
"How ridiculous... With such a frail body, such a weak will, how can she bear the responsibility of leading Britain into the future?"
"Lamorak."
Suddenly, Morgan called out his name.
The latter immediately responded.
"Yes, Your Majesty."
"If you ever encounter this ridiculous 'King', I want you to pierce through her utterly laughable life and destiny with your spear. Do you understand?"
Cang Ye's pupils contracted slightly, but his response was still swift and decisive.
"As you command, Your Majesty."
