The needle pierced her flesh.
Seraphina screamed as she felt the cold liquid enter her body, spreading through her veins like ice. It burned and froze at the same time, a sensation so wrong, so unnatural, that her entire body revolted against it.
"Shh, shh," Elyon whispered, his other hand still stroking her hair as if comforting a child. "It's alright. You're doing so well."
The plunger pressed down slowly, steadily, emptying the syringe into her bloodstream.
Tears poured down Seraphina's face. Her body shook uncontrollably. She could feel the liquid moving through her, spreading, invading every part of her.
Finally, the syringe was empty. Elyon pulled the needle out and stepped back, still smiling that terrible, gentle smile.
"You bastard!" she cursed, her voice was raw and broken. "You monster! You absolute bastard!"
She hurled every curse she could think of at him, her voice rising to a scream.
"What did you inject in me?! What was that?! Answer me! ELYON!"
