Chapter 2 - guest

Yoojung's POV

We all sat at the table, but my mom was the only one eating. My eyes are still glued to the stranger, who's stirring on a freaking cup. Why is he acting like a part of the house?!

"Mom, you know this guy?" I broke the silence, which made both of them glance at me. My mom giggled before looking at the guy beside me.

"No, I just met him today." What the hell am I hearing.. She just met him today, and yet he is now eating with us?!

"Huh?! You just met him today!? People are dying because of strangers, and you just welcomed one?!" I exclaimed, making my mom furrow her brows. I don't even care anymore if he feels bad or whatever. I just want him out of the house right now!

"Wait a second, why are you scolding me? I should be the one asking you why you brought a guy here to your house!" I almost puked up what I was eating when my mom uttered these words.

I brought a guy here to my house?

"Huh? I brought him home?"

"Honey, don't worry, I accept you, and I love you, and you don't need to change." I widened my eyes, hearing her words. It seems that my mother is getting the wrong idea.

"Mom, what on earth are you talkin—"

"It's alright; I understand. You guys are cute together, though." She raised both of her eyebrows and giggled like a high school teenager. We looked at each other and immediately shook our heads.

"Ah, miss, I think you are gett–" my mom suddenly interrupted the guy beside me, and leaned closer.

"A guy, taking care of a guy in a house..cooking some soup while smiling…" she combed her hair using her fingers and stared at me. "and putting a cold cloth on his head? Yeah, I think I need to know what I need to know.."

"What the hell are you talking about? Why are you being so weird, Mom!?" I shouted and took a step back. I turned to the guy beside me, expecting him to say something. However, I found him looking down with his flushed cheeks….

"Are you not going to say something?" I whispered and stared at him. "My mom thinks we have something going on. Anyway, who let you in here, by the way? Did I really bring you home?"

The guy slowly looked up, looking like a small puppy.

"Well, you did. You grabbed me by the arm and almost kiss—"

"Okay, I think I have heard enough." I nodded and taped his mouth using my palm. I know he might say something embarrassing, which might induce whatever ridiculous thing my mom was already thinking.

"Honey, it is alright. You will always be my little boy, and I support you, okay?"My mom is so sweet, but I am not into boys, though. How do I say it without making it sound like I am homophobic? Who knows, this guy might be one, and I might offend him?

"It's okay, I won't get mad!" My mom raised both of her hands as if I were pointing a gun at her.

"I am just happy that someone loves my son, and that, enough, will make me forever happy."

Despite ridiculous things my mom has been uttering, I admit that her response is comforting. She would always want what's best for me, and that alone makes me thankful that she's my mother. I can't help but smile a little. I have never seen my mom this locked in.

"I want you guys to get married." My jaw dropped as soon as she uttered these things. How can she say those words casually?!

"Married?! We don't even know each other!" I stood up and slammed the table. "I mean, look at him! He's quite…" I gulped for a second and glanced at the young lad beside me. I don't want to utter those words, but to emphasize my point, I think I have to say it. "He's quite handsome! He deserves a pretty woman who would take care of him, and not a loser like me!"

"So you think he is handsome?" With all the things I uttered, my mother seemed to remember only the part where I called him handsome. "Well, let's ask him then. D—"

"Mom!"

"I don't mind the gender.." We stopped bickering when we heard a deep voice. "Of the person I like."

Well, that's great! You're feeding my mother's delusions! Anyway, I have to admit, he has a nice voice…

"Why are you riding on my mother's delusions?" I whispered and tilted my head. "Why did I even drink last night…"

"Anyway, even if you might part ways after this, fate will still bring you closer, because you guys are meant to be together," my mom acts like she can see the future, even if she only predicted four events in our family: the death of my grandfather, the birth of my cousin, the accident of my uncle, and the marriage of my aunt.

"Hey, I am sorry. My mother is a self-proclaimed psychic." The guy beside me seems to believe my mom. Why does he look so easy to manipulate?

"Ah, I think I have consulted with her in the carnival before," he fixed his hair and leaned closer to the table. "She predicted the tests I aced, the clubs I will handle, and the results of the contests I entered."

I furrowed my brows at that moment and turned to my mother.

"Mom, what is he talking about? You don't go to your office work?" So between them, who's really lying? My mother narrowed her eyes, looking as if she were confused, too.

"Wait, we have met before? Why can't I remember you?"

"The last time we met, you told me the place where I would meet the love of my life."

He slowly turned to me with his sparkling eyes. "And you told me I would see that person on the terrace."
