Chapter 2 - Shadow monsters.

"Ah—you're awake," said Jin-ah, walking into the room, carrying a school bag in one hand.

"Oh, you're awake," Jin-ah uttered as she walked into the room, tossing her bag on the bed.

From the sweat trickling down her neck to her slightly exposed cleavage, Cid guessed she had just been out for a jog. The fact she was wearing black shorts and a white sports bra that barely contained her bosom was proof of that.

'Is she the one who brought me here? That would make sense, I guess.'

Cid turned to face her after taking a deep breath.

"Are you the one who brought me here?" he asked.

Jin-ah uttered as she moved closer, "Yes, I found you passed out on my way home from school. I couldn't just leave you there."

She then placed a palm on his forehead, checking his temperature.

"You were burning up pretty badly. My brother is out on his honeymoon, so I figured I'd bring you back to my place until you feel better. Looks like you're feeling better now."

Cid's eyes moved towards her legs, and there he could see yet another shadow hiding underneath hers, quite similar to the one he had on him.

'Is this woman perhaps a witch?'

He finally replied, "Th-thank you. I appreciate the help."

"Nah, it's nothing. You're pretty handsome—I mean, helpless—so it would be a waste to leave you out there."

'I see.'

Cid sighed internally, then he uttered, "What is the name of this city? I don't seem to remember anything."

"Wait, for real?" Jin-ah leaned forward.

"I'm afraid so. Only my name rings a bell so far."

"I mean, you're in Seoul, Korea. Surely you remember where you're from, right?"

Cid replied calmly, "I'm so sorry, I don't remember that either. I think I may have amnesia."

"No way! How? Were you attacked by a hunter? A monster?" Worry was etched on Jin-ah's face as she grabbed Cid by the arm.

"I don't remember, sorry. This is probably an issue for you. I wish I could repay you for the trouble."

After hearing his reply, Jin-ah couldn't help but sigh.

"Nah, it's not your fault. There's a chance you were attacked. I'll contact my brother and see if he knows anything."

"You want me to keep staying here?" asked Cid, his eyes widening.

"I mean, yeah. You don't remember anything; it's better this way," Jin-ah replied, before she looked to the side and whispered, "Besides, I don't want someone this cute to leave."

"What was that?"

"Nothing! Anyway, let me go call my brother."

Cid remained there as he watched Jin-ah dash out of the room.

As soon as the door was closed, he quickly let out a sigh.

'Whether I want it or not, this is perhaps my new life until I find that damn god. Sigh. Meeting her brother, huh? I'd rather not. Then again, it's not like I have any money to go on my own so easily.'

He looked at the ceiling.

'I shouldn't worry much. First, I need to take care of this nuisance.'

Cid slowly turned his gaze down, observing the monster moving around in his shadow.

'Hmm…'

Tap.

He stylishly snapped his fingers.

And just like that, he sent a huge wave of mana into his shadow. It was so dense that it slipped through, heading straight for the shadow monsters.

The very next moment, the shadow monster shot out of Cid's shadow, its back slamming violently against the wall.

The shadow monster in question looked like a knight, made entirely of shadows.

'This is what has been hiding in my shadows? Isn't that surprising? Anyway, I should make sure this doesn't all lead back to me.'

"Ahhh! A monster!!!" Cid fell to the ground, screaming and waving his arms frantically as he crawled away. "S-stay away! D-don't kill me!"

The scattered shadow monster quickly stood to its feet and slipped back into Cid's shadow. But just as quickly, it was sent flying, slamming right back into the wall.

"Ahhh!" Cid opened his mouth wide as he screamed, "Please don't kill me!"

Bang!

The door to the room slammed open, hitting the shadow on the face.

Right at the entrance was Jin-ah, clearly worried as she saw Cid on the ground, trembling with fear.

"What happened?"

Cid pointed at the shadow monster.

Following his finger, Jin-ah saw the monster behind the door, and immediately, a deadpan look appeared on her face.

"Why is my brother spying on my guest?"
