Chapter 1 - Not Fresh At All...

Three months have passed. Tomorrow was my first day of school. No, I'm not five. Things happened at my primary school... Awful things. But now, I can be free. I'm going to a new school, attending sixth grade. Rosaline Levin. That's my name. I'm thirteen. Turning fourteen this year. Don't ask me what happened in fifth grade, it's horrible. Fine, I'll tell you anyway. It was September, and the pre-term exam was in a few days. I was known for my wits... But, even though I was smart, they.... The people, teachers, and students don't take me seriously; in fact, even the headmistress hates me. I did nothing wrong, nothing wrong at all. But here's the reason. I hid that I was rich because all rich people who join the school must lend their money to the school. Mom and I didn't want to, because the school uses it for their purposes, not for the students. I pretended to be poor. People were liking me, but then, Michelle,... She was very rich and didn't get attention because most of the students there were poor, like me, in their view... Michelle followed me home and took photos of our mansion and many other things... She sent it in the school group, and people disliked me, not only because I was wealthy, but also because I hid that I was rich. They bullied me and started mocking me about my very short hair. I was so stressed about this, I forgot I had exams. I failed... I needed to go back a year... Oh, I mean, attend fifth grade again. I couldn't... Everyone at school knows about this... Thus, I asked Mom to switch me school. The new school: Bookery... It looked fancy and good. I thought I'd have a perfect year, but I didn't...

I woke up early to arrive on time for school that morning. I dressed up after I showered. I was... Excited. Nobody knows about the last time. Even if they knew, the students wouldn't mind. They're all rich. I arrived early, but as I entered the school, it looked dark. It wasn't. It was filled with lights everywhere, with air conditioners. But it felt dark. It's as if everyone hated each other. They talked to a few people, but glared at people furiously as well. I realized it wasn't going to be a good year after all. It also wasn't good for me to make friends... Maybe not the best timing. But I knew I had to ask where my class is. So, I asked a girl sitting quietly on the floor. "Hi, excuse me?" I asked, trying my best to be polite. I realized she was wearing earphones, but she heard me anyway. She took them off. "Yes?" She asked. She seemed kind and friendly, unlike others. "I'm new here. I don't know where my class is. Can you help me?" I asked. She gave me a small, friendly smile. "Sure, but I don't know any information. Has the headmaster told you anything?" She asked. "No, but I'm in sixth grade." I answered. Her face lit up. "I'm in sixth grade, too. Friends?" She asked me nervously. "Of course," I replied. Well, I guess I don't have to make friends; they will. I thought. "I was lonely, thank you." "Um, yes, of course. So, how do I start finding my class?" "Right, ask Ms. Mavis. Follow me." I followed her. "Hello?" She called her. "Urgh, what is it, kid?" I heard a hoarse voice from the room. "It's Kory, Ms. Mavis. There's a new student, and she can't find her class. She's in sixth grade. May we come in?" Kory asked. "No, just tell me her name." Her voice sounded disgusted. "Um, what's your name?" She asked me. "Rosaline Levin." "Her name is-" "I heard, Kory..." Ms. Mavis told her calmly, but it seems she was only trying her best. It seems she wasn't originally calm. "O-Okay." Kory stuttered. "No need to talk anymore, Kory! Now, Rosaline Levin.... She is Room-1." Kory screeched quietly. "Okay, thank you, Ms. Mavis. May we be excused?" I asked. "I gladly allow it, Rose." "She guessed my nickname," I told Kory. "She makes names. My name's Koris Helton. If she changes my name to Kory, it's Kory." She told me, chuckling. I giggled, too. "What's special about her anyway?" "She's the most popular girl at school. She's in 9th grade. Now, she's a high-schooler!" She answered. "Do you like her?" I asked. "I'll be honest, no.... She's extremely mean." "I see. How about this school, do you like it?" I asked. "No, it's so dead. The people here are so.... unkind. I think that if a murder were to happen at a school, it would be this one." She smiled softly, but I knew she meant it. I had a strange feeling...

I got to class and saw a friendly-looking teacher. "Hello! You must be the new student." She sounded cheerful. Kory patted my shoulder and whispered. "You're lucky to be in this class; this teacher is the only one friendly out of hundreds." I nodded four times, two to Kory and another two to the new teacher. "You are Rosaline?" "Yes." "Welcome to our class. You can call me Ms. Uria." "Okay, Ms. Or- Sorry. Er... Ms. Uria." "It's okay. Before you take a seat, I would like you to introduce yourself. Class! Please pay attention to..." She waited patiently for me to say my name. I thought she was going to say my name instead, but I realized later she was waiting for me to start introducing myself. "Rosaline Levin. My name's Rosaline Levin. I'm thirteen." "You're quite young. Most people here are at least fourteen. Can you catch up with the lessons?" "Yes, I can. I'll go on?" She nodded, smiling. Hell no.... I was so informal.... I thought. "I live near this school. And I'm glad that I joined this school. Everyone here is so... Nice..." I lied. "You all look friendly...,kind, and smart, of course. Thank you." There were simple, quiet claps from everyone there. I sat next to Kory. "Give a warm welcome to Rosaline, with louder claps." The teacher told everyone, and so there were louder claps. It was very loud. "The speech was perfect." She told me. I turned pink. "Thank you, Ms. Uria." I thanked her. She gave me a warm smile. She was an English teacher. I made my first impression by answering her questions for a good amount, and I also put my name on the English Impromptu Talk Competition paper.

Then, it was lunch break. I went to the toilet with Kory, but when we came out, Ms. Uria was shouting. "BACK UP, STUDENTS. YOU KNOW WHAT? FINE! MR. HEMINGTON! TAKE THE STUDENTS OUT OF THE SCHOOL, NOW!" She ordered. Then, I saw Ms. Mavis, blood all over her body and face. She was dead; I thought she had been murdered. And I was right...
