Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: All a dream?

Sunlight spilled through the cracked window of the dorm as a young man lay motionless on his bed.

A groan escaped his lips as he raised a hand to shield his eyes from the light.

His eyes opened slowly but instead of squinting like anyone else would, they widened.

Memories came rushing in, flooding his mind with pain, betrayal, and death.

"Aiden..." he growled, teeth clenched.

His face twisted with hatred, and he suddenly felt a sharp pain not physical, but mental. A phantom pain, echoing the agony he felt just before his death.

That was how much suffering he had endured.

His name was Liam.

And he was either lucky or cursed to be born after the Merge.

He had once been a brilliant student, known for both his intelligence and stunning looks. Girls blushed at the sight of him. Boys envied him from afar. Everyone expected him to awaken a powerful class maybe even a legendary one.

But fate played a cruel trick.

Liam awakened a pathetic plant-based class.

Something meant for gardening.

Class: Vine Caller

Rank: F

In this world, your class determined everything, your status, your strength, your future. And his class meant doom. The same girls who once adored him now avoided his gaze. The boys who envied him now mocked him openly.

His life crumbled that day.

He walked home alone, his shadow trailing behind like the ghost of his former self.

He didn't know what changed, but from that day on, he was no longer part of their world. Days turned to weeks. Weeks into months. Slowly, he faded into the background, taking up a minor role as a plant gardener a useless existence.

Every day, he questioned it.

What went wrong?

Why him?

But no matter how much he wondered, the future was already decided.

Until a "miracle" happened.

A year later, his former classmate and his best friend, Aiden came to him.

Aiden needed his help.

Apparently, they'd discovered a Nightmare Dungeon. If cleared, it would push them past Level 20 and into the Second Ascension. But this particular dungeon required a plant-type awakener.

Liam was overwhelmed with emotion. For a moment, he believed in hope again. Aiden remembered him. Respected him. Gave him a second chance.

Liam agreed without hesitation. He even checked the dungeon info online. Everything matched. A plant-type was needed. He stopped digging after that.

He should've dug deeper.

He'd been disconnected from the world for too long. Who could blame him?

Hope blinded him.

At Level 5 his pathetic peak he joined them.

On the journey to the Nightmare Dungeon, he watched in awe as Aiden's team demonstrated their power. Fire blades, energy manipulation, summoning magic. He was amazed. Awed. Jealous.

But when they reached the dungeon's core, he finally understood the truth.

They didn't need him.

They needed a sacrifice.

That's why no one had ever cleared the Nightmare Dungeon. It demanded a life.

And who better to offer up than a weak, forgotten plant-type?

Who better… than Liam?

They threw him into the pit.

He struggled, clawing at anything he could.

But there was nothing.

No light. No mercy.

Only falling. The feeling of his flesh peeling from his body, his bones cracking under the jaws of the monsters still hunts him even now.

"You killed me, Aiden…" Liam growled, fists trembling as his eyes turned bloodshot.

The helplessness. The hatred. The pain. All of it returned as he stood from his bed.

"I swear I'll kill you. Every single one of you who mocked me… who despised me… I'll repay it all tenfold."

Just then, a voice echoed through the building:

"All cadets, be advised: Awakening will commence in two hours."

The message repeated three times.

Liam froze.

His heart pounded .

"This… this means I've been reborn?" he whispered, scanning his surroundings.

It was a standard student dorm, basic furniture, one bed, one table, one chair. All cadets lived in these government facilities from the age of 15, trained and educated in preparation for their awakening at sixteen.

In this world, dungeons appeared everywhere. If left unchecked, they'd breach, monsters would pour into human cities. The only way to stop them was to clear them. That's why every new generation was trained to become humanity's defenders.

Today was Liam's sixteenth birthday.

The same day he awakened… and was cursed.

He clenched his fists.

"If I awaken the same class again, it's over. I'll be mocked, discarded... again."

He wasn't excited like the others.

He was terrified.

What if nothing changed?

What if it wasn't a dream?

He pinched himself.

Pain.

It's real.

He had truly returned.

And in two hours, he'd be forced to relive the worst day of his life.

All because he'd been intelligent… popular… and envied. The girls chased him. The boys hated him. And his only crime was outshining everyone else.

In the end, it only bred hatred.

"Should I run?" he whispered. "Avoid the awakening altogether?"

But if he ran, what about his promise to his parents?

What would become of their dreams?

And if he stayed…

If he awakened the Vine Caller again…

His future was already ruined.

As these thoughts spiraled, a knock echoed through the room.

Knock. Knock.

Liam's blood ran cold.

"Who's there?" he asked cautiously.

A familiar voice came from the other side.

"Aiden."

Liam's body froze.

And trembled.
