And Baron Gopenheimer's up-and-coming slavery ring was the exact opposite of that setting.
The building where the auction took place was as shabby on the inside as it was on the outside. Dirty, dank, full of repulsive chatter and cheap furnishings. I had left the bubbling champagne glass beside me untouched, but I doubted it was pleasant-tasting. Probably diluted too.
