It was the perfect opening question for the absolute onslaught I had ready for this chauvinistic cardinal.
Except, I wasn't the one who said it. Count Auden Graye did.
"Ah… n-no, Count. Nothing in particular. It's just.." the Cardinal fumbled awkwardly, desperately trying to think of an excuse. "Are you sure we can trust her?" -is what he finally settled on.
Wow. It was really that easy to shut him up and make him back track. Yet, I had a feeling that if I had been the one to say something, he never would have backed down like that. As if I needed another reason to hate the Count. But here I stood watching him flaunt the power of being a man by criticizing another man flaunting the power of being a man.
It may have made me throw up a bit in my mouth.
