A city A, high-speed rail station.
A woman in a white T-shirt and jeans stepped out, carrying a suitcase.
She was pretty, her slightly wavy hair falling loosely behind her. Beneath her elegantly arched brows were a pair of clear, bright, peach-blossom eyes; a high nose and cherry-like lips made her striking even without makeup.
"Hello, Miss Bai? I'm the Qin family driver."
Bai Ning nodded, nonchalantly following the driver to the car. She looked utterly exhausted.
The car left the station. On the road, the driver glanced at the woman in the back seat, her eyes closed.
So this was Mr. Qin's fiancée.
Qin Feng – the CEO of Qin Corporation, a ruthless and efficient businessman, feared throughout the business world, yet only twenty-nine years old.
It was laughable, really. The elder Mr. Qin had arranged a marriage for him, and the result was Bai Ning – a woman with little background, arriving from the countryside by high-speed rail.
The driver watched Bai Ning's innocent face and clicked his tongue. A Cinderella trying to marry into a wealthy family – it was a difficult task.
At that moment, Bai Ning slowly opened her eyes, her expression calm as she looked at the unfamiliar city.
The car soon arrived at the Qin residence. The driver took Bai Ning's luggage.
As soon as Bai Ning entered, she was met with hostility. A matronly woman stood at the entrance, sneering at her.
"Li Ma."
"Madam, she's arrived."
Li Ma held a bottle of disinfectant, spraying it liberally over Bai Ning.
Qin's mother said, "Don't miss a spot – shoes, hair, everything!"
The pungent smell hit Bai Ning. She shielded her face and said coldly, "Are you people sick?"
Qin's mother was furious.
"Typical country bumpkin, so ill-mannered! We're worried about germs and viruses. What if you infect the Qin family?"
Usually, Bai Ning would have stormed off, but she couldn't. "Then, Auntie, you should spray some disinfectant on your mouth too. It smells awful…" She then walked inside.
"You…" Qin's mother sputtered, pointing at Bai Ning's back. Li Ma quickly stepped forward to comfort her.
Inside, another woman, around Bai Ning's age, gave Bai Ning a contemptuous look.
"You're Qin Gege's fiancée, Bai Ning?"
Marin, eyeing Bai Ning's clothes, sneered. "Goodness, Grandpa's getting old; his judgment's terrible. I heard you took the train. We could have bought you a plane ticket, you know. Though, I suppose your hometown doesn't have an airport."
Bai Ning looked at Marin as if she were an idiot. "Are all the Qin family members this arrogant?" Her hometown lacked an airport, but her grandfather had chartered a high-speed rail car for her all the way to City A. No one understood the solitary journey she'd endured. If she'd wanted to, her grandfather would have sent a private jet.
Bai Ning didn't bother explaining and went upstairs.
Marin, furious at being ignored, followed.
"Where's my room?" Bai Ning asked a servant.
Before the servant could answer, Marin stepped forward, opening a door.
"This is it." Marin said, "You've probably never stayed in a room this big and nice before! Cherish your time here at the Qin residence. I'm Qin Feng's cousin, Marin. You need to be nice to me, you understand? One day…"
Before Marin finished, Bai Ning entered the room and slammed the door shut. The loud bang further enraged Marin.
"Ugh! That country girl is so arrogant! What is Grandpa thinking?!"
The servant whispered, "Miss, that's Young Master Qin's room."
Marin glared at the door.
"Don't say anything. My cousin hates people touching his things. Just say she chose to stay there herself."
A glint of mischief flashed in Marin's eyes.
