Blood splattered the walls.
"That was way too close!" Naruto said, slumping onto the ground. He never expected those two Chunin to be slaughtered helplessly like that.
"No way—we have to stop this match! Sasuke will die!" Shikamaru was trembling too.
But at that moment, leaning against the railing, Shiki started walking toward that butcher-like kid. To be continued.
Chapter 191 Confrontation
Shiki Uzumaki felt he needed to talk with Gaara. Even now, he still hadn't figured out exactly what he should say to Gaara.
"Heh, you're the Man I thought would try to stop me."
Gaara, after finishing off his victims, cast another fierce, beast-like murderous glare toward Shiki Uzumaki once more.
The bloodshed had reignited the violent instincts within his body—he wasn't the least bit reluctant to fight Shiki Uzumaki here and now in a life-or-death battle.
Shiki shook his head lightly and asked, "Why should I stop you?"
Yet just as his voice faded,
Suddenly, he sensed fluctuations in Gaara's emotions—faint traces of unease still lingered.
He tilted his head slightly and said to Naruto and Shikamaru, "You two need to get out of here now."
As if receiving royal pardon, Naruto and Shikamaru, who'd previously been frozen in place by Gaara's killing intent, immediately stood up from the staircase upon hearing these words. They prepared to leave.
However, instead of heading back to the spectator seats as they originally planned, they sprinted toward the arena.
They wanted Uchiha to withdraw from the competition—fighting that person meant death.
Yet after running a few steps, Shikamaru turned back to face Shiki again, asking, "Can you handle this alone?"
"My wounds… have already healed."
Seemingly answering irrelevantly, Shiki waved dismissively at Shikamaru without turning around, once again urging him to go.
"Besides, I just want to talk to Gaara for a moment. Nothing will happen."
"Wounds… healed?" Shikamaru sounded shocked. While as friends, he always hoped Shiki would recover someday, he just hadn't expected it so suddenly.
"But that guy is dangerous!" Naruto still shouted anxiously.
However, a slight smile appeared on Shikamaru's lips. "Let's go, Naruto—even though I don't really understand Shiki's thoughts, if he wants to talk with Suna's ninja, we shouldn't interfere."
Naruto hesitated briefly, then nodded reluctantly before leaving together with Shikamaru.
Their footsteps landed heavily on the stairs.
Meanwhile, Gaara coldly watched everything unfold without uttering a word.
Only after Naruto and Shikamaru had left, leaving just himself and Shiki behind, did a creaking sound echo out from the sands.
"Aren't you supposed to love preaching? Or maybe you didn't even react quickly enough to save those two Chunin because your so-called mother's 'love' clouded your mind completely?"
Gaara seemed to descend into a frenzied state; even swirling sand particles began flying through the air.
Absolutely no emotional fluctuations must occur in Gaara—that was one of the most important missions for both Temari and Kankuro.
Because nobody could predict just what kind of atrocities Gaara might commit when his emotions ran wild.
Due to Shukaku's presence and his complete inability to sleep, Gaara's emotions often slipped into a state that others struggled to understand.
"I've heard that the tailed beast of Sunagakure Village is called Shukaku. If I'm not mistaken, it should be sealed inside you, right?"
Shiki lifted his head. Bathed in sunlight at the entrance of the dark corridor, he was split into two halves by the light.
Perhaps precisely because of this lighting contrast, one eye hidden in shadow seemed to carry mockery and evil,
while the illuminated half appeared much gentler.
But that was just how the onlookers saw it.
When Shiki called out his status as a jinchuriki, Gaara didn't appear particularly troubled.
In reality, he hardly cared about anything anyway—if something upset him, killing always resolved it.
Instead, at this moment, curiosity stirred within him toward this person's behavior.
If the other had maintained normal composure before him, he could understand it.
After all, this person hadn't yet seen his "love"—
the "love" bestowed upon him by his mother.
Even now, Shiki still remained so calm.
Suddenly, sharp pain pierced Gaara's brain. Instinctively, his right hand shot up to press against his temple.
In a hushed voice, he spoke to the presence deep within him.
"Forgive me, Mother...
for letting you drink such filthy blood.
Was it your guidance guiding me? Does this person's essence taste delicious?"
Murderous intent swirled violently around Gaara as he spoke.
Shiki observed how drastically things changed within two minutes. It was clear Gaara was losing control and preparing for battle.
The sealing techniques of Sunagakure Village seemed to differ greatly from those of Konoha.
"Don't get worked up—it won't accomplish anything. Even if you try to stop me, do you really think you could keep me from leaving?"
Shiki smacked his lips, inhaled sharply through his teeth, revealing an undeniable truth.
The air trembled. A ball of sand shot like a cannonball toward Shiki Uzumaki.
A louder shockwave erupted.
Shiki suddenly thrust out his fist, striking the sand head-on. The two forces collided violently until the sand scattered apart.
"There's no need for such tests. Due to certain reasons, I can now use secret arts that I couldn't access before. So you shouldn't judge me based on past standards."
