Chapter 3 - Spirit of Time

A huge scythe, dark black in color with over 2 figures tall. Wielded by a petite girl unfitting for it's size. Yet, it was light to wield. To it's owner, at least.

Leaving behind traces of darkness everywhere it slashes, ripping apart the space inside, as well as anything and anyone that touches the traces left behind by it.

The only downside was that it takes over the body of the one holding the scythe. Replacing it with the remnants of a deity wielding partial authority over darkness.

Before the girl could even realize what she had done, her consciousness had sunk into the deepest parts of her soul.

Multiple bodies fell as soon as the scythe reached her hands. Leaving behind no traces of her body and blood.

Even the people who had tried to resist or run were helpless.

"Hero's sword..." One person muttered as the sword floated in front of him.

He tried to reach out for the sword... before suddenly getting enveloped by a strange darkness and disappearing into thin air.

Likewise for the "hero's sword", which disappears when it's owner dies.

Seeing the sights of multiple lives being taken like crushing ants, people who had realized their powerlessness tried to run.

Only to be chased by a girl with eyes covered in partial darkness, wearing a gothic like dark dress made of darkness, growing wings of darkness to chase them down and erase their existence in seconds.

On the floor were items sorting from a normal looking book, a fish, a shotgun, a machine gun and even a shining sword.

'Obviously... The fish and the book is out, the shotgun and machine gun seems fine but I don't think it'll work against her... So I can only take that sword! Whatever it is... It should be better than my boiling potato that will explode when given to someone else with a tag property...' the guy with glasses on, thought through everything before the darkness angel comes to end his life.

He quickly dashed to the shining sword on the ground... And just as he touched it, he realized, it was a decorated sword that only shines but have purifying properties against undeads.

'...the heck am I supposed to do with this? There's no undead here. Unless she counts as one.' his eyes titled as he observed the darkness angel kills everyone around.

The darkness angel's eyes set on him, and started flying towards his obviously attention grabbing shining sword!

As she flew towards him, he instinctively held out both his potato and shining sword to a hurry.

In his mind, he had already died. How the heck would he survive to a darkness angel looking girl with a potato!?

The shining sword was also useless. After all, she wasn't an undead. Only a body that has been taken over...

The darkness angel's scythe almost cut through the air, aiming at his neck. Strangely, it stopped before slowing down suddenly.

'This is... momentary timestop?' he didn't know why it slowed down for him, he didn't have any corresponding items...

Regardless, he took the opportunity to dodge the incoming scythe quickly before the timestop stopped working!

The air was completely enveloped in darkness. Seemingly void of anything else but darkness.

She looked to be confused for a moment, before turning her gaze at the boiling potato guy.

Not long after the strange occurrence, he quickly realized what it was all about. It was the potato's passive skill.

The one holding the potato is unaffected by any time manipulations of others!

This was also to avoid the abuse of time manipulations on potato users... As the potato is supposed to explode a second after it's given to someone else.

The girl flew towards him again, aiming for his head yet again.

This time, he knew what to do! He predicted the impending attack's range and quickly picked up a nearby ordinary looking book from nearby.

Whatever item it was, it couldn't be normal! If it looked normal then it has to be abnormal! He quickly examined the book, but found nothing unique about it.

Before flipping to a particular page, which wrote a complicated sealing spell of some sort and theories on how it works...

He quickly read through it, before the girl wielding the scythe had time to kill him, he was going to seal her somehow!

This time, the girl wasn't flying anymore. She still had wings attached to her, but now she was "slowly" walking towards the boy.

Seemingly having lost patience chasing it's prey... It was now unwilling to let him die so painlessly... To die instantaneously was only a blessing for the dead!

The boy quickly teared apart the page, having read it's activation incantation and theories in few seconds.

"Oh great and eternal spirit of time and space who wanders everywhere, I ask of you sincerely and devotedly, and I wish to be your dedicated student to accompany you on the endless journey of time and the sea of cosmos, so please! Seal this evil spirit!"

He quickly chanted the ritual as he made a bunch of bizarre signs in the air. As if summoning something.

...after a long ass incantation passed, a strange distortion in space suddenly occured as time seemed to froze for that one area the girl was standing in.

The darkness angel couldn't move anymore, she wasn't dead but she was "sealed" in time and space.

He took deep breaths to calm down, having exhausted his brain from working it too fast in panic... but before he could relax, a bizarre spirit appeared in front of him.

She was noble and elegant with her pale face and waterfall like white hair, here she took a form of a human, older than the time of the universe and a spirit that had wandered every worlds across the universe. Having explored all sorts of stars all across the universe.

"You say you wish to be my student for eternity, have you thought about it carefully?" Her voice was gentle and soft but there was a sense of undeniable coldness in her blank expression.

For a spirit that had lived since the birth of the universe, or probably existed before it, she had already seen the universe develops in millions or billions of years.

"...yes. I'd rather wander around the universe endlessly for eternity than die here. I have no regrets, and my words are sincere." He answered honestly without regrets.

The third line of the ritual, which is to gain the spirit's favor in order to receive help, was to offer something the spirit would like in exchange for the sealing of the enemy.

There was no need for the "endlessly" or "eternity" parts of the ritual. But in cases where the space you was in was "strange" and "isolated" from a normal world. It'd be hard for the spirit of time to detect you before you died. As you would "never" be the only one seeking her help through the ritual. Naturally, it'd be faint to her "vision" and she wouldn't be able to tell which "marked space" it is as this was an "isolated" white space from a normal world. The concept of time was also different from her perspective. This part was written in the last line, as if the system itself was suggesting it's players to take note of it... So it was clearly not meaningless.

For a spirit of time and space, she was no stranger to having students from time to time, it probably counted over millions across the passage of time.

But none have chosen to walk the same path as her, none have said they'd accompany her in the eternal journey of space and time.

The reason was simple. She had never forced anyone to stay when they decided they'd only be her student for a period of time they'd like.

It was way too lonely and boring for a normal living being to bear the burden of time and space.

No one was willing enough to "suffer" for eternity with the infinite knowledge of the universe.

It sound adventurous and wonderful, to be able to explore the cosmos and see countless stars and worlds.

Even so, you'd eventually get bored by "time", as it barely passes... even after you explore everything in the universe.

You can only wander aimlessly and endlessly.

"Alright, I'll be taking you in as my student, then." She replied coldly.

Then the space distorted again, around the boy and the spirit of time, before vanishing to thin air as the space returned to normal.
