Chapter 9 - Kalego Makes His Entrance

Inside the summoning chamber...

As soon as Iruma and Asmodeus stepped in, a wave of gasps swept through the room.Several female demons outright fainted at the sight of them.

"Seriously? That's a bit dramatic…" Iruma thought, already exhausted by the attention.

"Wow! He's so tall... and ridiculously handsome!"

Ignoring the flood of praise and stares, Iruma and Asmodeus casually strolled to the front of the room and took their positions.

BANG!

The chamber doors slammed open with such force that it echoed like thunder.Every demon turned instantly to the entrance, silence falling like a guillotine.

A man stood there, cloaked in black with a dark mantle over his shoulders.Sharp, vampire-like ears. Cold, snake-like eyes. Slicked-back violet hair that shimmered with menace. His very presence made the air heavy.

Iruma met the man's piercing gaze. The hostility radiating from him was practically visible—as if the word "detest" was carved into his face.

Whispers began to ripple through the crowd.

"I-Isn't that the terrifying teacher…?!"

"Silence!" the man barked.

He strode to the front, holding a copy of yesterday's headline newspaper, and turned to address the room.

"I am Naberius Kalego. I'll be overseeing this summoning ritual. Why? Because I am the only one who takes things seriously enough."

"This test exists to determine whether you're useful trash—or just plain trash."

His words were sharp enough to slice through flesh. Not a single demon dared to speak.Everyone hated him instantly, but no one had the guts to say it aloud.

Kalego's eyes flicked toward Iruma.

"Take this one, for example!"

He marched up to Iruma until they were standing eye to eye. The air between them crackled with tension.Power clashed in silence, like two swords drawn in the same breath.

"If someone dares defile a sacred occasion by riding on their grandfather's reputation, mumbling childish incantations and—let's not forget—picking fights while flaunting silver hair…"

His voice dropped into a cold, venomous hiss:

"Such filth should be expelled immediately."

Iruma, still smiling, calmly replied:

"That's just demon instinct, Professor Kalego."

But while his tone was cheerful, the temperature in the room plummeted. His long black hair stirred, even without wind, and a fraction of his true pressure leaked out.

The crowd nearly collapsed under it.

Demons gasped, clutching their chests, as if crushed by invisible stone.Even Kalego's expression tightened.

The space around Iruma shimmered and warped under the weight of his energy—an oppressive storm on the verge of explosion.

Asmodeus and Kalego both flinched.

That confidence. That power. This wasn't just arrogance—this was the quiet certainty of someone who knew he couldn't be stopped.

From behind Kalego, golden sparks began to dance in the air.

Was a fight about to break out?

Kalego narrowed his eyes.

"What's wrong? You planning to fight your teacher?"

Iruma shrugged playfully.

"Perish the thought~"

Tension gripped the chamber like a vice. No one dared breathe. No student had ever challenged a teacher's presence like this—and probably never would again.

Asmodeus, caught in the middle, wanted to defend Iruma… but even he couldn't raise a finger.

And then, just like that, Iruma's pressure vanished.

He grinned and reached out to pat Kalego's shoulder—which the professor dodged like it was diseased.

"Ah, Professor! Always so serious~"

To Kalego, only one other person could get under his skin this easily: the principal. Now there were two.

Kalego turned away, his voice razor-sharp once more:

"Everyone! Line up. Prepare for evaluation!"

Still trembling from the confrontation, the students scrambled into place. No one dared question anything anymore.

Iruma, as always, smiled cheerfully—but in his mind, he was already imagining what form would most humiliate Kalego when summoned.

"Definitely something chick-like… yeah, that'd do it."

Kalego continued:

"Those who fail today will be expelled. Mentally prepare yourselves."

An empty threat—for most. Babyls didn't admit students who lacked talent. But Iruma knew… that line was aimed entirely at him.

The other demons didn't catch the subtext, but they still panicked.

"He's terrifying…"

"No wonder they say he's the strictest teacher in all of Babyls."

"Please, please don't let me get assigned to his class…"

Kalego ignored the muttering and pulled out a massive, garishly pink magic mirror.

"Silence."

The murmurs stopped. Every eye turned to the enchanted mirror as it flickered to life.

A crude, childlike cartoon heart-devil appeared onscreen and began chirping instructions:

"Welcome to the Simple & Easy Summoning Tutorial!"

"Step 1: Use blood to draw a circle on parchment!"

"Step 2: Step into the magic circle!"

"Step 3: Burn the parchment in the center candle!"

"Step 4: Wait for the smoke to form your familiar!"

"Tada! Let's—"

SMASH!!

Before the mascot could finish, Kalego hurled the mirror to the floor with a deafening crash. Some demons swore they heard the mascot scream as it shattered.

Unfazed, Kalego faced the class again, deadpan as ever:

"That's your summary."
