The fryer hissed as Todd scraped burnt crumbs off the grill, his calloused hands moving on autopilot, same as they had for the past 58 shifts, and the same like as they moved when he held a sword.
Todd wiped off the grease off his forehead with the back of the wrist, the "Employee of the Month" plaque mocking him from the wall. When the clock finally hit 11 PM, he shoved his apron into a locker and stepped out into the alley behind the fast food joint. The Summer air stuck to his skin, but the moon, that same pale judgemental full moon made his breath catch.
Two months. Two months have passed since he returned back to earth. The same righteous and grand hero who slained the demon king is now just a minimum wage worker.
"You shitty scamming goddess!! "
The hero cursed at the goddess after he remembered that the goddess told him his life back on earth will be a lot better.
"Two whole years... Because of that two years i didn't get my highschool diploma!!
I spent two years saving a world and now i'm flipping burgers?! "
The hero exclaimed out of frustration due to his miserable life. People stared at him as if he's some sort of weirdo due to the words he said but he brushed it off and heads into a convenience store to buy an instant noodle.
The same cheap instant noodle and the same bottle of water. The hero heads to the cashier and prepares to pay it but while scanning the cashier asked.
"Why are you sad? You always buy the same thing everyday and have the same sad face, care to share your story? "
Todd sighed and took out a few coins from the spare changes of yesterday groceries and a few cashes from today's pay.
"How can i not be sad when i'm practically doomed? Missing a highschool diploma, having no place to stay because of how broke i am"
The cashier was suprisingly positive with it and slapped his back to comfort him.
"My dad is a landlord, he have a 6 people apartment room, it's pretty cheap because you're sharing money with a roommate, you can visit if you're interested"
Todd was suprised at the cashier offer and asked him where is it before leaving the convenience store.
The next day, before starting his shift he woke up early and heads to the place and met the landlord. The discussion went smoothly and Todd signed the lease and as he entered the apartment
"Whoosh"
The sound immediately was heard as soon as Todd opened the door. Todd looked at his front and saw his roommate leaping for a punch while screaming
"Heroo!!! ".
Todd immediately dodged it and that punch left a dent on the wall. He was suprised as his new roommate suddenly leaped for a punch even though they never met but the gaze of his new roommate wasnt the gaze of someone who just met, it was the gaze of someone who had became a mortal enemies with the person he stared at.
" whoa whoa whoa, calm down dude, i don't know who you are so why are you acting like this? "
However, the guy didn't listen and proceeded to throw more punches but Todd was able to dodge all of them thanks to his enhanced reflex from his days as a hero. Todd catches his arm and asked why he looked so angry when they never met but the guy headbutted him.
"Hero!!! Even at earth you still tried to humiliate me!! "
The guy was seething in anger and as he clenched both of his fists two fireballs appeared but it wasnt normal, it was black fires. Todd who was suprised at someone using magic quickly regained his composure after realising the sinister energy in the fireballs was as sinister as the demon king energy.
Before the guy was able to shoot it Todd immediately cuts it and send it to another dimension using his dimensional magic that he learned before returning back to earth.
"Stop this!! You're trying to blow up the house or what?! The dent is already gonna cost money, what about this whole apartment if you blew it?! What problem do you have with me?! "
The guy argued back but then Todd realised, his anger issue, his sinister energy, his way of speaking, and the fact that he called him hero, it was without a doubt that the guy was really what he's thinking of.
"You're... You're the demon king arent you? "
The guy laughed sinisterly but then Todd dropped him but he quickly stood back and introduced himself.
"Behold! I am the strongest and the mightiest! I am the apex demon! The demon king of-"
"Yeah yeah dude, no need to do that intro just say that you're the demon king Belzegar"
Belzegar was immediately enraged after his introduction was immediately cut off by Todd and they began arguing but their argument was put to a halt as soon as the sound of something dropping was heard. Belzegar immediately ran to his room and was saddened after seeing what was dropped.
"Noooo!!! My limited edition magical girl maria chan action figure!! "
The demon king cried as he holds the action figurine even though it was only scratched by a bit. But standing at the doorframe of Belzegar room was Todd, the hero who couldn't believe what he saw.
"Is this really the demon king i knew of? "
