"Alright, if there's nothing else, let's camp here tonight." Kakashi briefly introduced the surroundings to the group before setting up camp nearby.
This area was known as the Land of Rivers, a place plagued by bandits. As a result, Kakashi and his team had accepted the merchants' request to eliminate these thieves. Naturally, it wasn't a difficult mission—just a C-rank one. The real reason Kakashi brought them here was for training.
Team 7 had previously encountered Zabuza Momochi in the Land of Waves.
As an elite jonin, Zabuza Momochi's strength was undeniable—he not only easily subdued Kakashi but also gravely injured Naruto and the others.
After experiencing such a heavy defeat, people often lose their drive, so Kakashi brought them here to train and rebuild their confidence.
After setting up their tents, everyone relaxed around the area.
...
"I never expected Kakashi to have come this far!"
Naruto and Kakashi were practicing shuriken throwing in the distance.
As their team leader, Kakashi naturally had to teach them ninjutsu.
"Naruto, your left bicep isn't positioned correctly!"
Under the moonlight,
Ye Liang sat resting atop a large dark banyan tree.
"Tsk tsk tsk, check out those teaching skills! Definitely channeling some of my old school style."
"Though your own skills could use work—you're still not quite up to my level."
"And what's with that stance—teaching while reading smutty novels? Total lack of professionalism. Big thumbs down."
Below, Kakashi's face darkened.
"I tolerated you calling yourself Naruto's uncle, but now I'm instructing students. Who do you think you are, interrupting me? And you—a brat—dare to say my skills aren't good enough?"
Kakashi was furious!
The island nation placed great importance on respecting elders and hierarchy. Being the more visibly mature one, Kakashi naturally couldn't tolerate Ye Liang's constant nagging.
He hurled a shuriken at the tree beside Ye Liang's head.
The distance was subtle—it was only half a centimeter away. If it had been any closer, it would've hit Ye Liang straight on.
"You're challenging me?"
Ye Liang naturally understood Kakashi's intent.
Although his previous mocking remarks hit the mark, Kakashi was in the middle of teaching, so Ye Liang's interruption indeed made Kakashi lose face.
"What, you wanna spar?" Kakashi shook the kunai in his hand toward Ye Liang, who immediately understood his meaning.
"Then let's go ahead and spar."
Ye Liang effortlessly jumped down from the tree and walked toward Naruto.
Seeing two experienced figures apparently ready to demonstrate ninja techniques, Naruto practically lit up. "Sasuke, Sakura, hurry up! They're gonna spar!"
He treated it like a show and started shouting for his friends to come watch.
Soon enough, all of Team 7 gathered in the wooded clearing.
"If you think my teaching's lacking, then let's settle this with the basics—ninja tools." As he spoke, Kakashi hurled a blade toward the distant leaves.
Its blade aura was sharp as jagged teeth, piercing straight through an insect exactly between two leaves.
"How about that?"
Kakashi smiled.
A shuriken competition, then?
Ye Liang furrowed his brows. "I've analyzed every member of Team 7 with my Kanka. Overall, most of them barely register any real combat capability—except Sasuke. The others haven't even reached Jonin-level potential yet."
"Sasuke's Ninjutsu power stands at 1. That's definitely due to the Sharingan."
As for Kakashi...
Ye Liang scanned him again using his Kanka.
Ninjutsu: 4
Taijutsu: 3
Ninja Tools: 3
"A very well-rounded pseudo-Kage-level fighter. His Ninjutsu has even reached true Kage status!"
He had already left behind contemporaries like Asuma.
"No wonder he's so confident—he really stands out among his peers."
Now Ye Liang understood where Kakashi's pride came from.
He thought it was time to knock some sense into him. Otherwise, that cocky attitude would get Kakashi killed one day!
Back at the bridge in the Land of Waves, Kakashi's recklessness had given Zabuza Momochi—a mere pseudo-Kage-level master—an opening.
And because of that incident, Naruto and the others were determined to train hard during this mission.
"Alright then."
Ye Liang stood up. Suddenly, long-forgotten system notifications echoed inside his head.
"Congratulations, Master! You've triggered the Main Quest – Training of Team 7!"
[Reward] Sharingan (Note: Reward quality improves with quest completion rate; maximum reward available – Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan!)
"Finally! My reward's here!"
Ye Liang instantly felt energized!
He was no longer lounging around like he owned the place—he was fully recharged now, full of fire again.
"Just as I thought, only by following the original storyline can you gain recognition for a Main Quest. Before this, it was all battles against Fake Ye Liang, so no Main Quests appeared!"
Ye Liang grinned then.
Main Quests are way different from regular ones.
Though harder to trigger, they often offer rewards comparable to S-class rarities.
This time it was about training Team 7, and Ye Liang's first thought was boosting the entire squad's strength. But since Kakashi was the one who triggered this quest, he decided specifically to teach Kakashi something.
"Watch this!"
Ye Liang grabbed a single shuriken between his fingers and pointed toward the distant horizon.
"I'm going to throw this blade to hit the ring finger on the right foot of a Buddha statue located eight thousand meters away inside a broken-down temple!" As he spoke, he raised his hand and flung the shuriken—it vanished instantly.
"There, go find it now."
"Eh...?"
That's it?
Everyone looked confused.
Seeing Ye Liang make no further moves, they realized he wasn't joking.
"You can't be serious!" Kakashi snapped, his tone sharp with disbelief.
At first, he thought Ye Liang might actually have some skill judging by how confidently he spoke—but now this?
Eight thousand meters away—the right foot of a statue?
Forget the statue, Kakashi couldn't even see the ruined temple eight thousand meters off!
And that was after subtly activating his Sharingan too!
"Unbelievable!"
Furious, Kakashi turned sharply and stormed off without bothering to check or confirm anything. He had completely lost faith in Ye Liang.
"If you chicken out, looks like I win," Ye Liang said, hands clasped behind his back with a shrug.
"The hell! You're just messing around! How is that winning?!"
"If you're not even willing to confirm it, how can you say it doesn't count?"
Ye Liang shrugged again nonchalantly.
The members of Team 7 burst into laughter as they watched the scene.
Although they didn't completely trust Ye Liang either, they were naturally happy to see Kakashi-sensei flustered.
Those brats had gone through quite a bit during Kakashi's training before.
"Naruto," Sakura Haruno teased, looking at him, making him blush.
"Right! He is my uncle after all!" Naruto suddenly felt it wasn't so bad having Ye Liang as an uncle—at the very least, Sakura had smiled at him.
"Alright then, I'm going to check it out right now! Don't go back on your word later!"
Kakashi shot Ye Liang a glare.
Still, determined to prove Ye Liang was lying and save face in front of his students, he led the group toward the distance.
