Chapter 8 - Chapter Eight - CLAY

DARK CITY ARC | 2

In the mind of Clay, memories...

I remember when I was a boy, we would go to church and after..we would visit my uncle's farm. On the far end of the city, where the rocks glowed a bright array of colors. I felt at peace, at home and unafraid on anything. My father worked hard so we could live a lavish life. I took that for granted, I rebelled. And I joined the Guild of our city. I earned my first and only weapon at 16, a rapier. Beautiful, I practiced the arts, every day and every night. I rebelled against my father until the day he died. Yet, I felt no shame, now sorrow. And then, we had met Atlus. A commoner from far out, come to start a new in our humble city. That's where everything went to shit...

I wish I wasn't so trusting, I wish I listened to my father more. That I hadn't rebelled, and that none of this had happened. A once beautiful city, my friends. My best friend in the world, John. He was affected by the curse... But he wasn't turned... Something happened to him, he would never show. A robe covered his entire body. Only the remnants of his eyes barely peared through. The truth is, I wish I was born blind. But that's not the case at all, my curse was my sight. But with that, I gained the ability to empower my other senses. The drawback, I would never see beauty again. But I would also never have to bear the sight of the plague. Atlus was my friend, so was John before he was hurt badly. Robin took me in when I was at my weakest, that's when I became a member of Skar Troupe. An organization that's goal was to defeat Atlus and The Plague Curses. A noble and fitting fight, regardless of life or death. I trained for years, fought valiant beasts- Minotaurs, Demons, even a Devil. I'd single handedly closed a Demon Portal with my sheer strength. But, that wasn't enough to defeat them...

I fell in love while training, she was beautiful- her voice. I wish I had seen her face, she was soft, and she was calming. They took her from me...

Fondehr, the City of Wind... How I miss you, father, my dearest Julianne... Mother... Jonathon... Damn you Atlus.

Present Time | The Real World

Samo Hatu: Lift him onto the wood chunks, make sure he's not leaning off.

Clay: *ringing* W-what happened...?

Caitlyn: After you told us who Atlus was, a boulder fell from the mountains peak. It barely missed you, but the shrapnel affected you, your back was wounded. I used Healing Alchemy to patch you up. But your still in pretty messy shape.

Desmond: Thank God your up, I was freaking out man.

Clay: A Warrior doesn't die an unworthy death.

Caitlyn: I like this guy, anyone else. No, just me?

Desmond: I think he's super cool, dude is a tank. Hey, teach me your ways oh wise master.

Samo Hatu: Cut the shit kid, we gotta do something about the Curse guy dude things. And I ain't heard a single one of you spit ball any plans.

Clay: Robin.

Samo Hatu: What'd you say?

Clay: Robin, Sir Robin Hood- you can find him before the graveyard on the west end off the City. There's a bunker down there, he'll let you in. Just tell him Clay sent you, he'll understand.

Samo Hatu: Got it, you two- make sure the geezer doesn't pass out again. And if any of those Curse Plague fuckheads show up, kill them on the spot.

Desmond: Man we just got done fighting a Devil, and now we are on red alert, dangit, why do I gotta be so heroic.

Caitlyn: You agreed kid, remember? Or are we picking and choosing our adventures in stupid land?

Desmond: Yea, I know.. You don't gotta be a jerk about it.

Clay: I must rest now, I feel heavy- I should be fine. Just, need, sleep.

Desmond: Watch duty, soooo- what do you do for fun Cait?

Caitlyn: It's Caitlyn, and us warriors don't have fun, we battle and we train. That's it, nothing more nothing less.

Desmond: Aren't you a ray of sunshine, you'd fit in perfectly with this steampunk ass nightmare city.

Caitlyn: You don't know the origins of this place, it could have been beautiful for all we know. Don't stain it's name because of the current situation.

Desmond: (in his head) She really is a warrior through and through. She reminds me of the geezer a lot, God I miss the guy.. If only I wasn't so we-

Caitlyn: Whatever is going on in your head, drop it. Don't let your guard down- Stay vigilent.

The West end of Dark City | Sometime Later...

Samo Hatu: I'm at the West end, and there's graveyard. Where the hell is this bunker he was talking about?

From the trees emerged a barrage of arrows along with smoke bombs, a trail of traps flung into motion

Barely dodging, as a figure entered from the trees

Robin Hood: What is your business here Stranger?

The man was 5'11, around 178lbs, fast, vigilent, and unflawed. His jawline was rough while his face he wore a mask around his eyes. A suit dark green, with roughly beaten boots.

Samo Hatu: I got a message from a guy, something I gotta talk to this Robin Hood about. It's urgent, could use the help.

Robin Hood: And what do you want with this Robin Hood?

Samo Hatu: It's about his friend, a man named Clay. He told me to come here, and speak with him. Create a plan to stop what's happening in this place.

Robin Hood: You should have said that from the start. The building behind you, the common-folk will let you in, I know of it. I am Robin Hood, I am scouting currently, I have leads. We will attend to this later.

Samo Hatu: Well, check up on your buddy when you get the chance. I'll try to convince some of your common friends to help out.

Robin Hood: Whatever you think can help this City, it can't. The City is lost to Atlus, we will defeat the Curses. And then we will leave, our only job is to keep the Curses from getting out.

Samo Hatu: I don't know what fucked up fantasy your living in bud, but this Atlus guy has serious power. His scent is stronger than anything here- So stop being a jackass and figure it out.

Robin Hood: We'll talk later, you are only a stranger. I need to know I can trust you more before I allow you to tarnish my people and my Troupe.

The Church

Jack: Into position Headless, tonight is the night. You can finally play...

Headless: What about Siren, I thought she was dealing with the humans.

Jack: No, she is a distraction- a tool to be used at our feet. But there is someone with such emense power here, a Wolf. I need you to handle that, swiftly.

Headless: A wolf? Better than no fight, I'll try not to destroy the City in the process.

Jack: Don't worry, by moonlight- we will all evolve, and conquer this barren land.
