Chapter 3 - Waiting

Sky took the knight's body and dragged it on the edge of the left wall of the cave and laid him there.

He went out and looked around. He saw a large rock and walked up to it, lifting it with some struggle and dragging it inside the rock and putting the rock down pushing it against the left wall, right in front of the knight hiding his body.

He took out a water canteen and then took out a fruit that resembled a rotten apple except it looked drier and was pure black. He used the threads to create a small bowl and took a very small piece of the Black fruit and put it into the bowl and put some water from the canteen and poured it on the same bowl. He then took out one of his knives, wrapped the handle with his black tread completely not missing a spot and started to mix the water and black fruit together making sure to not get any of the water out and after around 5 minutes of mixing slowly, he took the now black liquid and made sure to wipe the entrance of the cave with it not missing a spot. He took the leftover liquid and splashed it right outside the cave. But before he went into the cave to rest, he took a small but sturdy stick.

The red sun was quickly setting down. Sky took his sword and everything else, either putting them in his void all except for his knives and sword. He hid behind the rock with the knight. He set aside his sword and examined the knight.

He then slowly started to take off his black armour. He took out the bent and bent helmet with some difficulty. There were many injuries on his face. Some of the bent pieces of the helmet had pierced his face. He took out a needle that was wrapped around the handle of a few knives with string.

He took out a few of the needles and carefully removed the poison he had put on the needle. A few minutes later, it was done. He took out a bottle of disinfectant that he had made with alcohol and other things so it wasn't as professional or perfect but it was better than nothing. He took out a black robe from his void and tore a piece of it, applying a bit of the disinfectant on him, he then stitched some of the deeper wounds back up using his threads and a needle.

He took a good look at the knight's face and observed it with precision. There was a big scar on his left eye, indicating he had been stabbed and blinded by something or someone a while back. His hair was decently long and he had yellow hair. His face was handsome, the scars he had just recently received and received a while back, just made it look rough.

A portion of the top of his left ear was missing.

Observing his arm, he observed that his left hand's index finger's distal phalange's was almost completely cut severed off and the middle finger's distal phalange's was completely gone.

Even before Sky had fought him, he probably had around 38 broken bones.

His left leg's ligament was torn and his bone was broken and was misaligned.

Sky took the sturdy stick and with what was left of the clutch wrapped it around his leg creating a makeshift leg cast.

After that, he just made sure to put a cloth under the knight's body and took off his black cloak and used it as a blanket that the knight could wear.

'Thankfully the knight had survived through some miracle.'He thought feeling a bit relieved, 'I hope you can catch me on what happened during the time I was gone.'

He laid on the stone still holding the string that was attached to the trap he made just in case and then he slept, laying on the rock.

"...." I need to wake up. Sky said as he woke up from his nap. It was still dark and it would probably still be for another solid 25 hours.

In this world, days were 36 hours long and the sunlight lasted for 5-8 hours. People went into hiding and monsters roamed this place for 30 hours per day and some monsters only needed 4-6 hours. In most places you couldn't even be safe at any time.

'So it's odd for a group to be here. The knight looked like he traveled far to find this group of people called the 'fiend rouges.' Staying in groups is risky here since it is much more noisy than others being solo. Their choice of area is also very weird to say the least. From the knight's behaviour, it seems like they are clever and not stupid dumbbrutes. So why would they choose a place where screaming hounds live? In fact I saw them in the morning as I was coming here and it was near the time where they are supposed to knocked out completely due to sleep but they aren't that means that they are a large enough group for it for them to form a pack and alternate between each other to hunt for food during the morning and night.' He tried to answer his questions by thinking of any ideas, but in the end it only left him with more mysteries.

'And it's not like they can copy my method since the smell only lasts long enough for around 3 days and since they are a large group, they probably need to use more of the black fruit and also the black fruit is literally impossible to get now. There were barely 3-4 black fruits in each of the 5 continents and that was 25 years ago.'

"They're clever…." He said softly, almost whispering.

The knight peaked out of the stone and outside a bit out of the cave.

"It's almost the darkest part of the night, that means the nightmare could begin today." He said, a sigh leaving his body.

'I don't wanna deal with a nightmare today, so I hope it doesn't happen today.'

Sky sat on the floor, leaning on the stone, his back a bit sore. He thought of what to do and decided to eat some food.

From his void, he took out a water canteen and drank two sips of it. He then took out some dried meat that had turned black in colour and took a bite of it. It was a bit rough but good.

'Too bad, I didn't cook this meat, but it still tastes fine. The salt and that black seasoning worked well, thankfully.'

but after he ate that food, there wasn't really much to do since he couldn't get out of the cave without danger.

So he just took a wet stone from his void and used it to sharpen his blade, then sharpened all of his knives Or rather daggers, individually.

1 blade and 37 knives. That's the total amount of things he had and had sharpened.

4 , maybe 7 hours had passed. The night was still brewing so he sat there trying to pass time. He played with one of his knives, trying to hold it still using 1 finger.

He was getting bored. Really bored. He sat there trying to sleep, but he didn't feel the need to rest.

Quite a lot of time had passed and the night had almost settled.

The red sun started to rise and Sky stood up and stretched his body.

'Maybe I should go look for some water' But as he thought that, something caught his attention, the knight's body twitched.

The knight was waking up.

Seeing this, Sky moved quickly, moving the knight's sword away from his body, taking his sword and keeping it aside and raw from the knight's reach and took out a knife.

The knight grunted as he slowly opened his eyes, his heavy eyes that had turned black due to the sleepy bags were looking even tired.

His eyes slowly opened and his yellow colored eyes were slowly revealed.

As the knight became conscious of his surroundings, Sky held a knife and sat on the rock he had leaned and hid behind all night and asked "So you wanna talk now?"

The knight stood quiet, still holding his ground and staying quiet.

"If you are keeping silent because you think I'm part of the fiend rouges, then I can assure you that I'm not a part of it."

"…" the knight kept quiet, his eyes still not fully open

"If I was really a part of the fiend group, why would I just not kill and go to the hassle of sparing you? I even tore one of black cloaks and even used a bit of my disinfectant and you know how care those types of things are in this place."

"Firstly, it's difficult to believe you when you are holding a knife getting ready to stab me any second and secondly, I'm not dumb enough to think that you don't have any ulterior motive just because you kept me alive. You could have easily just wanted to get some information before you kill and if that's the case, I recommend you just kill me right now." The knight argued back. His hand trembled a bit as he completed his last few words.

Seeing this, Sky sighed. He threw the knife where the knight's sword was. "You don't need to say a whole lot. Just tell me the information that both the fiend rogues and you should know. This way you don't risk leaking information even if I was a part of the fiend rouges. How does that sound? I mean I think it's the least you can do for me, sparing your life."

"That's ironic coming from the Sam person who beat me."

"So? Want me to beat you up again or kill you?"

"…"

"Exactly. You are scared of dying aren't you? You act so confident and fool yourself that you are fine with it but in the end you are scared of dying. You are scared of getting hurt. Everyone is."

"Not everyone…" the knight responded rather quickly.

"Talkative now aren't you?"

"…"

"Well, just tell me about this. Then I'm willing to let you go. Just tell me what happened in the past 25 years."

"Why? Why do you need me to tell you everything that happened in these 25 years?"

"Because I was gone for 25 years. I was riding on the back of a white spirit."

"White…spirit?" Shock showed on his face and his eye was opened fully. "They…exist?"

"Yeah they do but they live in the sky. Higher than the peak of any mountain or building. They also are difficult to find since they basically have no presence."

"Why did you come back down here then? I couldn't imagine life being worse there than here."

"Yeah it's quite lively there but the spirit was going towards the forgotten land and I wasn't taking my chances there."

"…" he kept quiet and stared at Sky's face properly for the first time.

"So what's with all the questions? I mean you were just so distrusting before so what's with the sudden change?"

"..."

"Why are you believing anything I'm saying? From your perspective I could just be a fiend rogue saying this to get your trust. Does this mean that you want to believe what I said? If yes, then I hope you can comply with my wish and give me the information I want. If you do that I'm more likely to leave you alone and leave you untouched for now."

"…" the knight stared down, as if in doubt. He then adjusted his position and dragged body and leaned against the wall, holding his stomach and breathing heavily. "I'll tell you…I'll tell you about what happened these 25 years."
