Chapter 1 - How Not to Titanfall

Mission Log: Faerun Reconnaissance

Date: 2175.06.12

Mission Brief: The Frontier's Reconnaissance Division has authorized a covert operation to assess the viability of establishing a forward outpost on the planet Faerun. Recent intel suggests potential strategic significance due to its rich mineral deposits and relatively stable atmospheric conditions. Reconnaissance teams are tasked with gathering data on environmental hazards, indigenous life forms, and potential threats from hostile forces.

Team Composition:

Squad Leader: Captain Marissa "Wraith" Talon

Tactical Operations Specialist: Lieutenant Kai "Specter" Ozu

Combat Engineer: Sergeant Jay "Ghost" Carter

Reconnaissance Scout: Corporal Elena "Shade" Rodriguez

Mission Objectives:

Conduct aerial reconnaissance to identify key points of interest and potential landing zones.

Gather samples of local flora and fauna for analysis.

Establish communication relay points to facilitate future operations.

Monitor for any signs of hostile activity or encroachment by enemy factions.

Mission Log Entry: As our drop pod breaches the atmosphere of Faerun, the planet's rugged terrain sprawls beneath us like a patchwork quilt of unknown mysteries. Initial scans indicate a diverse ecosystem teeming with life forms both familiar and utterly alien. Our descent is met with the crackling static of electromagnetic interference, likely a result of the planet's unstable magnetic field.

Touching down amidst dense foliage, we immediately set to work, deploying recon drones to survey the surrounding area while we establish a secure perimeter. The air is thick with humidity, and the distant rumble of thunder suggests impending storms.

Our first encounter with indigenous fauna proves both awe-inspiring and cautionary. Massive reptilian creatures, resembling a fusion of Terran iguanas and armored behemoths, lumber through the underbrush. Though they show no immediate signs of aggression, we maintain a safe distance, capturing footage for further analysis.

As night descends upon Faerun, we secure our makeshift camp, taking turns monitoring our surroundings. Specter reports intermittent energy readings to the northeast, possibly indicative of an artificial structure or settlement. Tomorrow, we'll venture deeper into the unknown, but for now, we remain vigilant, ever mindful of the dangers lurking in the shadows of this enigmatic world.

End Log Entry

☆꧁✬◦°˚°◦..◦°˚°◦✬꧂☆

The sound of a pistol rang out, and a robot could be seen dropped to the floor. Its body whirring and computing the multiple errors and damage it has received in an attempt to find a way to survive.

Easily, its head gets crushed by a black-steeled boot, and all of the mechanical noises come to a halt.

Before the very robot, was a person of futuristic clothing. Imagine a world where soldiers don sleek, futuristic attire designed for the rigors of combat in an advanced technological landscape. These soldiers, known for their unparalleled agility and precision, don clothing that strikes a balance between functionality and style.

His attire consists of lightweight yet durable tactical armor, offering protection without compromising on mobility. Crafted from cutting-edge fabrics, this armor provides flexibility, breathability, and resilience in the face of adversity.

Modular attachments allow for the customization of gear, ensuring pilots are equipped with everything they need for the mission ahead, from ammunition to tactical equipment.

But it's not just about practicality—these soldiers also have a sense of individuality. Their attire boasts aesthetic customization options, allowing each pilot to express their unique identity through various camouflages, insignias, and emblems.

Whether it's blending into their surroundings or making a statement on the battlefield, pilots have the freedom to tailor their appearance to suit their preferences.

At the heart of their gear lies advanced technology. Helmets and visors are equipped with Heads-Up Display (HUD) systems, providing pilots with real-time tactical data and enhanced vision modes like thermal imaging.

This technological edge gives them a strategic advantage, enabling them to navigate dynamic combat environments with unparalleled speed, precision, and style.

This Pilot was none other than one of the very best to do it.

Jay Carter. 17. As young as could be. Very talented and gifted when it came to these sorts of things. One could say that he was practically born into it. Of course, not everything is a given, but for him, it seems as if this entire thing was made just for him.

He's a pilot, working against the IMC and helping the Militia in any cause. But so far, his recent mission has gone off the grid.

Holstering his pistol, he places two fingers on the side of his helmet, making contact with his titan.

"KD, have any good news?" He proceeded to ask, turning around and looking out the window, things went from bad to worse within hours of his team arriving there.

Jay was able to hear shooting on the other side, "NEGATIVE. UNABLE TO COMMUNICATE WITH ANY MILITIA FORCES OUTSIDE. REATTEMPTING..."

The Pilot sighed, and upon seeing a door open up with more robots for him to destroy on the way, he spoke out again.

"Forget it, focus on gaining as much more information as we can possible. The Militia needs to know what happened here."

Unholstering his pistol, he broke out into a sprint as he leaped onto the walls, with his hand out-stretched to it, he began to glide along it. Essentially wall-running.

Dodging many bullets shot at him, he performed another leap and cocked his fist back, striking the head of a robot cleanly off. Its body fell back as Jay landed atop it to cushion his fall.

His pistol then was swapped to his left hand and shot at another robot at complete point-blank range. Rendering it useless, Jay grabbed hold of its body to use for cover as he shot at the remaining robots.

Once the last had officially been done with, he let go and shook his right hand, wincing in the process.

"Note to self, not a good idea to punch a robot's head." He had told himself but was easily able to brush off the pain in no time. With reinforced gloves, and a whole lot of physical prowess.

As he made his way through the hallways and outside, he holstered his weapon once he saw his Titan, KD.

KD had just unplugged his ronin sword from a dead and deceased titan, with its sparks flying out as well as oil.

KD-0735 is a hybrid titan class, well, formed in situations like these of course. He followed the basic Ion Titan class, but upon serious upgrades, he's been able to do more.

There isn't a certain specification to him, and while this does sound illegal and unfair, only the top pilots could handle something like this.

Holstering his main weapon behind his back, and a sword being sheathed vertically as well, his whirring led him to see his pilot down below him.

"SERGEANT Jay, ALL OPPOSING ENEMY FORCES HAVE BEEN MAULED."

The cockpit opened as Jay gracefully flew in, the hatch closing as he fully began to take control of his titan.

Pressing a few more buttons routinely as always, he fully gripped the controls a moment later and began to traverse the facility.

It was a simple squad mission. Thanks to the heroics of Jack Cooper and his titan BT, they were doing everything they could in their situations.

But Jay Carter was dispatched in total secrecy, battles that also had other people played into it as well.

More than just defeating the IMC of course, we are talking about reality-bending power, and there's one name that sounds familiar among all of it.

Revenant.

It was the first time Jay had ever heard a name of this caliber, but he figured that he couldn't let such things go unchecked.

Not only that, but he also didn't know much about this Revenant figure as well. Not so much like he knew about Ashe, but it was something.

As the two began to traverse, they came across a very suspicious facility. It didn't look to be overrun at all.

No increased growth from nature taking it over, it looked very polished and cleaned.

Upon further inspection, it looked like a very important...beacon? Of sorts?

Jay disembarked from his titan to get a closer look. Upon the many debris and rubble that surrounded the area.

"Damn, it seems like every we go there was a fight. You think Kai or the others could've been around these parts?" He asked KD, his titan a bit silent.

But then again, a male robotic spoke out yet again. "MOST LIKELY. CERTAIN ERRORS HAD OCCURED UPON TITANFALL. THEY COULD BE ANYWHERE UPON THE PLANET."

Jay took note of that, the squad of them had split up upon titanfall thanks to the IMC ambushing them.

While he knows he made it alive, he's not sure if he can say the same for the others. His hope and faith was being shot down by the minutes.

As he continued to inspect, a certain Titan arm had caught his attention. With soot and damaged along with scratches on it...he could still see the livery.

The same livery attracted him, and he began to speculate who this could've been.

Holding two fingers to the side of his head, he began to scan the titan arm. Finding a complete match to one of his squad mates.

When the realization hit him that a titan arm was just lying down, there's no telling what happened down here.

"KD, scan this arm. I gotta make sure i'm not tripping or anything," Jay had explained.

KD did so obediently, and provided the results. "97% THAT THIS ARM BELONGED TO TALON."

Hearing those words even made sense in a way, but also brought in chilling fear. If something out here was able to take down a very reputable titan and pilot...

...what would that mean for KD and Jay?

No, it can't be. Jay shook the thoughts out of head, his hand going along the titan arm with a familiar feel. It had to belong to Talon.

With the rubble spread out evenly throughout the area, there was a large console in the middle of it.

A pyramid shaped construct, with a terminal before it. As the two walked up to it, Jay immediately got to the terminal hoping for any source of information that makes their time here at least worthwhile.

KD eyed the pyramid curiously, scanning multiple and multiple times.

"SERGEANT Jay, WITHIN THIS CONSTRUCT LIES UNSTABLE ENERGY."

KD spoke out, which grabbed his pilot's attention. Jay turned his head around and stopped his typing on the terminal.

"Unstable energy? We talkin' nuclear energy or something?"

"NEGATIVE. SOURCE OF ENERGY IS...UNKNOWN."

Okay, even more questions.

Jay looked back at the terminal. If within this pyramid construct housed unknown energy, then by chance did this vaporize Talon in some way?

Perhaps not, perhaps so. Talon probably opened up the pyramid without thinking and things unknown happened.

There aren't many options from here at this point, with multiple scans done he can confirm that they aren't even on the same planet.

Either their signal has been ghosted...or whatever this pyramid thing did took them somewhere else.

The other three personnel have all of their traces up to here. It's right where their signals all vanished as well.

"Hm..." Jay hummed lowly. His options were becoming lower by the second. And it sure didn't look like the Militia would just send an Uber for the two.

With a few more presses on the terminal, he had made the ultimate decision to find out what was really hiding inside this pyramid.

The terminal upon the confirmation, had retracted into the ground, and the pyramid itself had begun to glow with feint outlines on the outside of it.

Jay tried to scan what this energy came from within this helmet, but the results were also N/A. What was this energy really?

Whatever, no time to worry about it now. The truth will arrive in 2:30.

But just about he was going to rest, an alarming sound intruded his ears.

"SEARGENT, INCOMING IMC TITANS THROUGH ATMOSPHERE." KD noted quickly, it didn't take long for Jay to see that as well.

"Yeah, as well as robots and rifleman approaching us on...every side."

He quickly unholstered his rifle, this is not the predicament he wanted to be in. As far as he knew, they were getting surrounded slowly and slowly.

Is this how they got Talon? Surely not, then KD and Jay would've surely known, even if they had been further away than expected.

"KD, handle the titans. We just need to buy time for the pyramid to do its box opening. Surely it's just not a bear..." Jay had commented.

With a press of a few buttons on his wrist, he cloaked himself and started leaving the premises.

If they were truly being surrounded, than the two of them alone would have a difficult time keeping up.

Jay figured he would at least need to blow a wide hole up in their offense.

"NEGATIVE. CHANCES OF URSIDAE BEING HELD WITHIN CONSTRUCT ARE APPROXIMATELY 0%." KD had commented over the comms.

Jay sighed, "It was a COD Zombies mystery box reference-nevermind. Just handle the titans."

"AFFIRMATIVE. REQUESTING AUTHORITY TO RAISE LETHAL COMBAT LEVEL TO 100%."

Cloaked still, Jay looked back. As the IMC titans had just touched ground on the planet. KD unholstered his blade.

"Yeah, request granted. Go crazy." Jay then proceeded to turn back to his own battle, while focusing on the ground men.

While cloaked, he walked among them, and seeing his titan KD in the distance, he was also able to hear the chatter among them.

Sometimes chants, sometimes chatter, it was all nonsense.

All of these forces just to stop a boy and his titan? Either Jay and KD are the best duo in the known universe...

...or what they are hiding here is so discreet they want nobody else to know.

As confident and humble Jay was, he was was willing to bet on the latter option.

Still cloaked however and still walking among them, he took out a grenade and pulled out the pin.

Now, it's cooking. He proceeded to slide it into one of the IMCs rifleman. Maybe because Jay is really slick with these things...or maybe because he learned this from Fallout 4.

He then began to uncloak himself in front of them all. This cause raised suspicion and all of their guns were pointed at the pilot.

"Hold on!" Jay had called out. His rifle was holstered as his hands outstretched them all. He was circled around.

He eyed every single one of them, "You guys are picking a fight with the wrong person. You see that pyramid over there?"

He pointed at it, and everyone looked.

"I siphoned the energy out of it, and it gave my crazy powers. Like, I can explode this guy right here!"

He says, but nobody believes him. They keep their guns aimed at him, and one is about to shoot until Y/N shot a finger gun...at the person he slipped a live grenade into.

"Don't say I didn't warn ya." Jay said and tucked down, a shield forming around him as a large explosion occurred.

It took out a good chunk of enemy numbers, some were shaken up from the explosion.

The pilot stood up again and looked at the remaining forces. "I told you, it's gonna happen to you, you, you, you, and you."

He pointed at numerous of people, and they all exploded as well.

Taking out large numbers of numbers, the remaining IMC forces retreated and even left their guns.

"Good, one batch down, a couple more to go." Jay had said and broke into a sprint to the pyramid again.

By the time he got back there, KD was totally demolishing the other titans. Becoming ballistic, his combat senses were over satisfied.

As Jay took cover, he unholstered his pistol upon seeing the numerous of IMC forces way too close to the pyramid.

Jumping into the air he cocked his fist back and punched a soldier, rendering him unconscious. The others that were surprised at his sudden inclusion raised their guns at him.

Quickly, he continued to push on. Grabbed his body, he quickly rose and used it as a shield and shot the others.

Once the bullets actually started to drop, he had to spare some. It's not like he had infinite anmo.

Dropping the body, he repeatedly cloaked himself and snuck up on the remaining, pistol whipping them.

Once that was over, the pyramid emitted a large sound. Forming a beacon into the sky.

"Woah..." Jay was surprised by this. The pyramid slowly began to open up as KD finished with the remaining titans.

"SEARGENT, IMC REINFORCEMENTS ARE ENTERING THE ATMOSPHERE. BEST COURSE OF ACTION?"

KD had made his way to Jay, the pilot then banged his fist on a titan limb.

"What is this? Frontier defense? Bloons Tower Defense Remastered? We aren't going to survive if they keep sending down forces. When will the Militia realize things are not going the way they should?"

Jay asked he was already infuriated to begin with. Also slowly becoming more and more fatigued.

"SEVERAL INSTANCES HAVE FAILED OF TRYING TO MAKE CONTACT WITH NEARBY MILITIA FLEETS. IMC FORCES HAVE BEGUN TO SURROUND THE PLANET." KD spoke again.

Jay sighed and facepalmed, his head facing the sky totally. He drew in a fresh breath of air.

"You've gotta be fucking kidding me."

This fulfilled the suspicions even further. Whatever the IMC had over here, they wanted nobody to know.

Seeing the pyramid full open up now, there was a foreign energy source contained into a sphere.

Blue radiated sparks as well as a bright glowing orb. Jay tried to reach out for it, but he caught an insane reaction back.

It sparked his armor and sent him back quite literally.

He slid across the ground as KD looked at the energy source, then to his pilot.

Holding a finger out, he spoke. "I RECOMMEND TO NOT TOUCH UNKNOWN ENERGY SOURCE UNLESS FULLY DOCUMENTED."

Getting back up with the help of KD now, Jay nodded. "Yeah, figured."

Heading back to the energy source, the Militia needed a way to find about this.

"I'm going to power everything down. Disconnect it entirely. If the IMC want this, they are gonna have to kill me to pry it from my hands." Jay told KD.

KD nodded, as Jay began to reach out for it...

But in the second he did, a gunshot rang out, and Jay's body fell back.

KD became instantly alert, and noticed a sniper hiding in one of the forests. Identifying them immediately, he brought out his titan weapon to dispatch of them quickly, but was held back.

There, two titans uncloaked themselves and held back KD. As KD tried to fight back, he was being restrained by two of them.

More and more titans have made their respective titanfall, and more IMC forces had touched ground on the planet.

Jay slowly rose, his helmet blaring sounds of immediate danger and the fact that he's in a. critical state.

He pressed on his left shoulder, hearing the gush sounds, he confirmed undeniably that he was bleeding there. Perhaps the bullet got lodged in there.

He quickly turned around to see KD being restrained, and many more titans making their way to the opened up pyramid now.

"N-no! KD!" He had yelled out, taking about an anti-titan sniper rifle, shooting at one.

However, the gun flew out of his arm thanks to him not having the proper aim. The shot landed on the titan, but aggravated his left shoulder even more.

Most definitely feeling the pain now, Jay clenched his teeth in reaction as he was able to see KD free now.

With multiple missles shot at him, he quickly dispatched of them with a shield when he then shot back at them.

But his heroics were not enough, he was dispatched of quickly and restrained again. with multiple titans pushing him into a corner as he was shot and shot at again and again.

"C-cmon KD! Let me embark!" Jay said, managing to stifle his anger and pain at once.

KD deflected hits from his ronin blade before getting punched by an enemy titan and crashing into nearby trees.

"NEGATIVE. CHANCE OF SURVIVAL LESS THAN 10%. I CAN'T HAVE YOU DIE ON ME, Jay." KD spoke, before getting shot at again.

Jay held onto his left arm, "We'll both die if you don't let me embark! You are going to get crushed!"

"AFFIRMATIVE. I NEED YOU ALIVE AT LEAST."

"Fuck that, I'm on my way-"

Jay's body would proceed to drop again, as he was pistol whipped. KD had seen the entire thing go down, and tried to travel to him, but was constantly being pressured from enemy titans.

"Not so fast," A foreign voice spoke.

Jay tried to look up, but he was in so much unbearable pain. He landed on his left side and that hurt even more.

A superior IMC General had come forth, maybe perhaps a higher-up. He walked around the open pyramid before eyeing the energy source.

"Heh, looking for that, eh? Militia and their nosey noses. Can't stay off the boogah, huh?" He continued to speak.

As Jay watched KD get mercilessly jumped and pummeled by multiple enemy titans, and him being rendering useless, he could only watch and grimace.

"St-stop! Call back your forces and we can work this out!" Jay attempted to go peacefully, but it wasn't working.

The IMC general had laughed.

"You. You? You think you can leave here free after seeing this? Nah, I'm afraid I need the both of you dead."

He unholstered his hand cannon, and aimed down the sights of Jay's head.

"This thing is real special. Enough of it to control the stars and dominate the galaxy. Rare stuff, only found once every other century, within a black hole." He had said.

"Wow...really specific..." Jay had probably rolled his eyes under his helmet.

The IMC general laughed before hitting the pilot with his hand cannon right on the head.

"I was being sarcastic, dumbass."

As he aimed down sights again, he asked a simple question.

"Any last words?"

Jay slowly looked up, with KD nearing his own death too, he spoke slowly...

"Che-check...your...pockets..."

Jay has used the last of his energy to speak, and his head fell back down. He was unconscious from the pain.

"Pfft, maybe I have some change to send with ya to the afterlife."

Checking his pockets, he felt something a bit spherical. Not change, but hey couldn't hurt to see what it was.

When he pulled it out, his face dropped and his expression turned to panic. A live grenade that had been cooking this entire time.

When did it get there? How did it get there? There was no time to throw it away, it's gonna explode any second now!

Especially with the rare energy source?! Who knows what could happen?!

"NOOOO-"

A large explosion sound occurred, and a larger explosion could be heard after that, sending back multiple shockwaves.

However, the area began to become bright, and soon all they could see was just white...

As night procured over Beacon Academy, four huntresses stepped out for a night walk. With the youngest one ahead of the rest.

"Ah, nights like these where you realize had good it is!" Ruby Rose spoke out, her red clothing made it fair that she wanted to stand out from the rest.

One sighed, her composure was being melted by the minute.

"Surely it's not a great idea to be out past curfew..." Weiss Schnee spoke, daughter of a very very famous and well established company.

She then received a playful hit, which also came from Yang Xiao Long sister to Ruby Rose...half-sister? Stepsister? somethingsister.

"C'mon, live a little. I'd take this over listening to Jaune or Port's teachings." The blonde continued.

The fourth member didn't have much to say either, she carried along a book with her. With a nice bow that accompanied on her head.

That was Blake Belladonna, the most reserved, and quite possibly the most secret member of the four...hey, did that how just move?

Whatever it was, these four were known as Team RWBY. A team of huntresses in training at a prestigious school known as Beacon Academy.

As the four of them got close to each other, and perhaps their personalities clash with each other so much, they perhaps were able to bond this time.

This one time, it's completely rare.

As Ruby looked into the night sky, and while the other three were talking, she saw something...

Something odd.

The night sky had literally seen a white flash over there in that area, which literally dimmed down, and from a far distance, left a trail, an red/orangish trail.

Eh, probs a shooting star.

A SHOOTING STAR?!

"Guys! Looks! Shooting Star!" Ruby jumped up and down to gain the attention of the others.

Yang, Blake, and Weiss had seen the shooting star. And all smiled formally upon seeing it.

"Make a wish! C'mon!" Yang had brought the group in, and while both Blake and Weiss protested to be this close, Ruby loved it.

She closed her eyes; and wished.

Anything. If there's anything that could make her experience at Beacon Academy any better, she wanted it to be a result of that star.

And just like that, the wish is done.

As the group continued to watch the star, it seemingly got closer, and closer? As its speed picked up, it crashed not too far from Beacon Academy which caused a ruckus. Shockwaves to go off.

Sirens, car horns, lights on and off, it was crazy.

"Woah! It just crashed nearby! We need to go check it out!" Ruby had made up her mind already, but was stopped by Yang.

"Nuh uh, if they find out why were are here past curfew, it be bad for all of us. Ruby, we can always check it tomorrow." Yang had pleaded.

Weiss and Blake headed inside while Ruby tried her best to escape the clutches of her sister, but failed ultimately.

There, at the crash site, laid KD, and in his clutches, his pilot.

Jay Carter.
