Doctor Brenner was moving through the halls of Hawkins Lab quickly. Brenner asked, "When was this?"
Connie answered, "Last night. Less than 2 miles away."
Brenner asked, "And the boy?"
A man said, "Still missing." Brenner asked a few more questions before they arrived in a room. The same room where people were hacking into telephone calls. One of the workers said, "Sir, I think you want to hear this."
Brenner walked over and sat down before he began to listen to a recording. Joyce said, "It was my son. I know it. And I... I heard something else."
Flo asked, "What was it?"
Joyce said, "It was like, uh, some kind of animal. There was some kind of strange growling. I don't know. Just please tell Hop to hurry." Brenner had heard enough and thought for a while before he decided to search the area surrounding the Byer's house. They would have some people keep watch until the most opportune time. They didn't want people seeing them after all.
Meanwhile, in the woods, Callahan and Powell, along with some volunteers were combing the woods. They had a couple dogs with them, and they were shouting out for Will, but they were still unsuccessful. Hopper walked over to them and asked, "Any clues? Anything that could even remotely help us?"
Powell answered negative, "Nothing at all. You?"
Hopper said, "Nothing but a dead phone."
Callahan asked, "Joyce?"
Hopper said, "About one step from falling off the edge."
Powell asked, "She's been a few steps from the edge for a while now, hasn't she?"
Hopper frowned and said, "Kid's missing, man. Have some class" Hopper walked off to continue searching.
Callahan and Powell watched him go. The Callahan tapped Powell's arm and asked, "The chief and her, they've screwed before, huh?"
Powell shook his head and turned away before he shouted, "Will!" He wasn't going to dig his own grave by talking about Hopper behind his back.
Callahan asked, "Is that a yeah, or did they..." Callahan noticed that Powell wasn't going to answer him, so he followed Powell and started shouting for Will.
Back at the Highschool, John and April were walking through the hallway to their next class. They passed by Nancy and Barb. They stopped at April's locker which was only a couple feet away. Nancy was talking to Steve and his friends, while Barb stood to the side like some kind of lost puppy. John leaned against the lockers while many girls stared at him talking with April.
John was one of the most popular boys in the school because he was a badass and he was very nice to everyone. I mean, as long as you were nice as well. John was famous for being the best player in basketball and football, the couches had fought over him and were devastated when they heard he wasn't going to join the team.
Nancy said, "What do you want, Steve? I'm trying to study for a short while before my test next period."
Steve said, "Come on, Nance. You're going to do fine on the test. Chill out for once. Speaking of, mt dad has left town on a conference and my mom's gone with him, 'cause, you know she doesn't trust him."
Tommy said, "Good call."
Steve laughed and asked, "So, are you in?"
Nancy said, "In for what?"
Carol said, "No parents? big house?"
Nancy guessed, "A party?" Steve nodded and Tommy chuckled.
Carol imitated a bell, "Ding, ding, ding!"
Nancy said, "It's Tuesday." Tommy and Carol started to laugh at her.
Steve said, "Come on. It'll be lowkey. It'll just be us. What do you say? Are you in or are you out?"
Nancy said, "Uhm..."
Carol interrupted, "Oh, God. Look." She said it so loud that John and April had heard her. John looked over, along with everyone in Steve's little group. John saw Jonathan putting up a poster of Will. John walked towards him, while April continued to grab her things.
As he was walking over to Jonathan, he heard Steve say, "Oh, God, that's depressing."
Nancy asked, "Should we say something?"
Carol said, "I don't think he speaks."
Tommy said, "How much you want a bet he killed his brother?" John who was walking past smacked him in the back of the head, knocking him to the floor. John looked back at Nancy and shook his head in disappointment before he continued forward. Nancy looked down sullenly, the mere thought of how John looked at her made her feel sad.
Tommy looked up only to see John walking over to Jonathan. Tommy gnashed his teeth in irritation, but kept his mouth shut. He still remembered when John knocked his lights out. Tommy was the one that tried to help Andrew and let's just say Tommy didn't want to get fucked up like Andrew did.
Andrew was so busted up that the hospital in Hawkins was unable to help him. They had to call a hospital in the city and have them come to get him. He was air lifted out of town and he had to stay at the hospital in the city for 2 weeks, even then the bones in his legs had been literally stomped to dust and were irreparable.
Andrew's parents tried to get the cops to arrest John, but the damage done to Andrew's legs was something even a car couldn't do to someone's legs. Even when multiple people came forwards as witnesses the cops didn't act and labeled it as hearsay.
Anyway, John arrived in front of Joanathan and tapped him on the shoulder. Jonathan looked over and saw John standing next to him. John said, "How you doing, Nathan?"
Nathan said tiredly, "I'm doing okay, just really tired."
John said, "Yeah, I'm sorry to hear about Will."
Nathan said, "Thanks. I heard you joined the search party, and helped look for him?"
John said, "Yeah. I couldn't find anything; the rain obscured my vision too much."
Nathan asked, "Rain. I thought everyone left when it started raining?"
John answered, "I stayed behind for a couple hours."
Nathan said, "Really? Thank you!"
John said, "No problem, bro. I'm sure you'll find him. Anyway, I got class, I'll talk to you later."
Nathan said, "A-Alright, John. See you around. I have to go print more posters anyway." Nathan was about to walk away, when John grabbed his hand and stuffed something in it before he walked away. Jonathan looked at John as he walked over to April, held her hand and walked down the hall.
Jonathan looked down at his hand and saw 300 bucks. Jonathan was shocked before he felt touched, he had only met John a couple times throughout the last few weeks. Their interactions were minimal, and Jonathan never expected he would do so much for his family. Jonathan knew John was rich, like more money than you could ever spend rich. Even though this much money probably meant nothing to John, it could mean life or death for his brother. Jonathan vowed that he would find a way to repay John in the future.
Jonathan broke out of his thoughts when Nancy walked in front of him. Nancy said, "Hey, Jonathan."
Jonathan said, "Oh, hey."
Nancy said, "I just... I wanted to say, you know, um... I'm sorry about everything happening with Will." Jonathan looked down.
Nancy looked over at Steve and his click before she said, "Me and Barb are thinking about you. I just want you to know that you are not alone." Jonathan nodded slightly.
Nancy said, "It sucks."
Jonathan said, "Yeah."
Nancy said, "I'm sure he is fine. He's a smart kid."
Jonathan said, "I know, John said the same." The school bell rang throughout the halls loudly.
Nancy said, "I have to go. Chemistry test."
Jonathan smiled and said, "Yeah."
Nancy said, "Good luck."
Jonathan said, "Thanks." He watched Nancy walk away for a couple seconds before he checked that the poster was fine before he walked out of the school in a hurry. As he walked through the door, he could here over the intercom, "There will be an assembly at the football field at 8:00 pm, in support of Will Byers and his family." Jonathan couldn't hear the rest as he had already walked out of the school.
Meanwhile, second period had just started for Lucas and Dustin. They just walked into the classroom and took their seats in the front row. Dustin looked over at Mike's chair and said, "He's never been this late before."
Lucas said, "I've been telling you, his stupid plan failed."
Dustin said, "I thought you liked his plan."
Lucas said, "Yeah, but obviously it was stupid, or he would be here right now."
Dustin said, "If his mom found out he let a girl stay over last night--"
Lucas continued, "He's in deep shit right now."
Dustin said suddenly, "What if she slept naked?"
Lucas rolled his eyes and said, "Oh my God, she didn't."
Dustin said, "Oh God, if Mrs. Wheeler tells my mom..."
Lucas said, "No way. Mike would never rat us out."
Dustin said, "I don't know."
Lucas said, "All that matters is, after school, the freak will be back in the looney bin. We will be able to finally focus on what actually matters, finding Will." Dustin sighed nervously as he opened his bag and took out his binder.
