Chapter 13: Out of Time (and Adam's Timey-Wimey Troubles)
"Okay, so, Weather Wizard 2.0," Adam muttered, pacing the S.T.A.R. Labs control room like a caged tiger. "And a tidal wave. This is it, Jichu. This is the one. The big one. The 'Barry messes with the timeline' one. Get ready for some serious timey-wimey shenanigans. We're talking Back to the Future meets Groundhog Day, but with more angst and less DeLorean."
Jisoo, who was calmly braiding a small section of Caitlin's hair, looked up, a confused frown on her face. "Timey-wimey? Is that a scientific term, Snack King?"
"It is now," Adam declared. "And trust me, it's about to get real. Just… watch out for the guy in the wheelchair. He's surprisingly fast. At betrayal. And murder. Just saying. Not that I'm spoiling anything. Just… a general life tip." He tried to make it sound like a joke, but his voice was laced with genuine anxiety. He knew what was coming. Cisco's death.
The news reports showed Clyde Mardon's tidal wave growing, threatening to engulf Central City. Barry, desperate, was trying to find a way to stop it. He was also about to reveal his identity to Iris.
"System," Adam thought, a desperate plan forming. "Minor Wish: 'Inflatable Duck.' Target: Clyde Mardon. Make it giant. And very, very distracting."
[SYSTEM MESSAGE]: Minor Wish 'Inflatable Duck' Used. Cost: 30 Days. Current Wish Balance: 371 Days. Mardon's confusion: High. Host's satisfaction: Immense.
As Mardon stood on the waterfront, conjuring the massive wave, a colossal, bright yellow inflatable rubber duck suddenly materialized directly in front of him, bobbing comically on the water. Mardon paused, his eyes widening in utter disbelief. "What in the…?" The momentary distraction was all Barry needed to gain a crucial second, allowing him to speed off and try to dissipate the wave.
"A rubber duck?" Joe muttered, staring at the news feed. "Seriously? What is going on today?"
Back in the lab, the tension was unbearable. Cisco, in a moment of brilliant deduction, had figured it out. Wells was the Reverse-Flash. Adam watched, his heart pounding, as Wells confronted Cisco.
"You're the Reverse-Flash," Cisco whispered, his voice trembling.
"Yes," Wells said, his voice chillingly calm, "and you, Cisco Ramon, are a brilliant young man. But you've seen too much."
As Wells' hand vibrated, preparing to phase through Cisco's heart, Adam screamed internally. "System! Chaotic Savior! Shield Cisco! Now!"
[SYSTEM MESSAGE]: Chaotic Savior Activated. Wish: Wheelchair Malfunction. Host survival probability: 99.9%. Cost: 60 Days. Current Wish Balance: 311 Days. Host's anger: Extreme. Cisco's injury: Minor.
Wells' wheelchair, with a sudden, comical whirring sound, spun violently, sending him careening into a lab table. He recovered instantly, but the momentary malfunction caused him to miss Cisco's heart, instead hitting his shoulder. Cisco cried out, clutching his arm, collapsing to the ground.
"Cisco!" Caitlin screamed, rushing to his side.
Adam stared at the System message, then at Cisco, who was injured but alive. "A wheelchair malfunction?! You call that a save, System?! He's still hurt! You're lucky I'm not dead. Or that I don't have enough days to wish you into a toaster oven."
Then, as Barry, in a desperate attempt to stop the tidal wave, pushed himself beyond his limits, a blinding flash of light consumed him.
[SYSTEM MESSAGE]: Temporal Anomaly Detected. Timeline Reset Initiated. Host Data Integrity: Maintained. Minor Temporal Displacement Detected in Host's immediate vicinity. Recalibrating...
Adam felt a strange jolt, like a cosmic hiccup. The world shimmered, then solidified. He blinked. Cisco was standing, perfectly fine, arguing with Caitlin about something trivial. The news report showed the tidal wave, but it hadn't hit yet. Barry was still running.
"Oh, thank Grodd," Adam thought, a wave of relief washing over him. "He went back. And I remember. I remember everything. This is going to be… complicated. And I'm still in debt from that stupid wheelchair." Jisoo, who had been watching the original timeline's events unfold with a mix of confusion and sadness, now looked at Adam, a strange, knowing look in her eyes. She had felt the flicker too.
