Chapter 6 - The Second Listener

The message sat on my screen like a bullet that hadn't hit yet.

> "You think you're the only one who hears things?"

No name. No profile picture. No clue who sent it.

Just that one sentence.

I stared at it until the screen dimmed. Then I locked the phone and sat in silence.

Someone knew.

Someone was watching.

Someone like me?

---

I couldn't sleep.

I replayed the words a hundred times.

Every whisper I'd heard.

Every person I'd looked into.

Had I been too obvious?

Or was this something else?

---

Next morning – school.

I walked through the gates trying to look normal. Calm. But my eyes scanned every face.

Anyone could be behind that message.

> Rakib? Too dumb.

Rina? No way.

Junaid? He'd be shaking in fear, not sending cryptic texts.

But the stares… they were different today.

Like someone wasn't just looking at me.

They were studying me.

---

First period passed. Then second.

In third period, a folded piece of paper slid onto my desk.

No one looked at me. No one claimed it.

I opened it slowly.

> "We're the same. But you're loud. Reckless."

"Keep listening. But know that I'm listening too."

I felt my pulse in my throat.

I turned in my seat. Scanned the room. Everyone was pretending nothing happened.

But someone in here… was watching me like a mirror.

---

The rest of the day blurred.

I didn't eat.

Didn't speak.

Just kept looking over my shoulder like a man waiting to be stabbed.

At home, I checked my windows twice. Turned off my phone.

Tried to sleep.

Didn't work.

---

Midnight.

My phone lit up again.

No number.

Just a name:

> "Whisper."

I opened the message.

> "Let me help you.

Or I'll break you."

---

I stared at the screen.

Every part of me said delete it.

But a smaller voice inside me whispered something else:

> "You're not alone anymore."

And that scared me more than anything.
