Chapter 350 - 《Harry Potter- Ravenclaw》Chapter 16: The Disreputable Wizard

"Harry Potter- Ravenclaw"Chapter 16: The Disreputable Wizard

Wyzett sat quietly, piecing together the threads of conversation between Dumbledore and Professor Mallow Fang.

Damocles Belby was a renowned potioneer—recently awarded the Order of Merlin, according to the Daily Prophet, for inventing the Wolfsbane Potion.

Mallow Fang, meanwhile, was the undisputed authority on werewolf research—perhaps the greatest the field had ever seen. He had risked his own safety to live among werewolves for extended periods, documenting their behavior in exhaustive detail and developing groundbreaking theories. The fact that Damocles Belby had gone out of his way to thank Fang spoke volumes about the value of his research.

After a brief exchange with Dumbledore, Professor Fang turned his attention to Wyzett.

"Albus, we're not expecting anyone else, are we?" Fang glanced at the door and sipped his tea. "This person who's supposed to help with memory restoration..."

"You mean Wyzett?" He shook his head slightly. "It's not that I doubt your judgment, but he's so young! I've already consulted plenty of potioneers—including Damocles himself..."

"I understand your concerns, Mallow," Dumbledore said gently. "But at the very least, we owe it to ourselves to try."

He slid a slice of blueberry cake to Fang and topped off Wyzett's tea. "Wyzett, could you walk us through it? This Mr. Altom... which book is he the protagonist of, exactly?"

"A detailed explanation?" Wyzett blinked, buying time with a sip of tea as he organized his thoughts.

"When I was in the room earlier, I heard clinking sounds outside the door—like coins. Specifically, Knuts."

"And when Mr. Avakian was sizing up the room and talking to you, he kept mentioning 'chips'..."

"In Wandering with Werewolves, 'chips' is a recurring motif. So, I'd say he's the protagonist of that book."

"Of course, there's a simpler way to deduce it." Wyzett shifted gears. "We all know Professor Fang is the foremost expert on werewolves."

"And the Daily Prophet ran a piece on Mr. Belby—how he won his award for inventing the Wolfsbane Potion."

"Put those two werewolf-related clues together, and it seems clear that Mr. Avakian is also connected to werewolves. The conclusion is inescapable."

The opening of Wandering with Werewolves actually picks up right after the events of Voyages with Vampires.

After returning the vampire to his homeland, the protagonist finds himself the object of the vampire's sister's affections. Unwilling to be tied down by marriage, he abandons his luggage and slips away from the manor with nothing but a handful of Knuts in his pocket.

He hides out in a village notorious for harboring dark wizards, using his Knuts as chips to gamble—turning little into much and gradually making a name for himself. Inevitably, he draws the attention of a shadowy figure, who turns out to be a werewolf. On the night of the full moon, the protagonist casts a Human Restoration Charm, enabling the werewolf to regain his human form. The two set off together, embarking on a life of wandering.

Whenever the word "chips" comes up, it's always as the protagonist's victory cry:

"All the magic I possess is just another chip to wager on victory or defeat. I have so many chips, you could never beat me!"

"Chips... now that's something worth having." Altom Avakian, who'd been standing until now, finally seemed to regain his senses and dropped into a chair.

"How are you feeling, Mallow?" Dumbledore turned to Fang. "What I wanted to say is... he's quite familiar with Lockhart, and he's picked up a trick or two."

Fang's eyes widened in realization. "You mean... that Memory Charm even you struggle to break?"

Before Dumbledore could answer, Altom Avakian burst out, "Well, what are we waiting for? Let's give it a go!"

"Without Baruffio's Brain Elixir, I'm a raving lunatic every day... Might as well take a chance! Even if I've only got one chip, it's still a shot!"

Dumbledore gave a wry smile. "Well, since the man himself has no objections... Wyzett, would you give it a try?"

"Of course." Wyzett turned to Altom Avakian. "Mr. Avakian, would you say that feeling of triumph—winning chips—is your favorite emotion?"

Altom Avakian's eyebrows shot up. He grinned, eyes sparkling. "Absolutely! Especially when I win big from a small bet! That feeling... it's like downing a whole pot of Mandrake leaf tea!"

Wyzett cleared his throat and nodded. "Got it. That sense of achievement... Let's begin."

He raised his wand, pressing it gently to Altom Avakian's temple, and spoke the incantation to reverse the Memory Charm: "Suspendisse in mente!"

With his growing mastery of mental magic, Wyzett focused on the sense of accomplishment as the fulcrum for the spell, intent on restoring Altom Avakian's lost memories.

But something unexpected happened. Within Altom Avakian's mind, there were no memories affected by the Memory Charm at all.

Wyzett opened his eyes and reported honestly, "Headmaster Dumbledore, I couldn't find any related memories... I'm afraid they're still with Lockhart."

Dumbledore nodded softly, his tone kind. "Thank you for trying, Wyzett. I can't say I'm surprised."

Professor Fang shrugged, sighing in resignation.

Altom Avakian spat on the floor. "Looks like I lost... That bastard really is slippery!"

"Actually, there's something I've been wondering..." Wyzett looked at the three men before him. "Professor Fang, since you know Belby, couldn't you ask him to help? Maybe you wouldn't need to restore Mr. Avakian's memory to bring charges against Professor Lockhart. The Ministry of Magic would have to investigate, wouldn't they?"

Professor Fang gave a helpless smile, hesitating. "Well, the problem mostly lies with me..."

Altom Avakian shrugged. "Honestly, I'm hardly a model citizen... The only reason I go after dark wizards or dangerous magical creatures is for the bounty. My real hobby is..."

He pulled a handful of Knuts from his pocket. "Betting big with small stakes! That's why I love Knuts—they're not worth much, but if you pile them up, they look impressive!"

"Because of this little hobby, no one's ever willing to vouch for me. I've even got a record in Armenia. Without concrete memories, nobody's going to believe me."

"That's just how it is..." Professor Fang shrugged. "Gilderoy Lockhart is clever—he only targets wizards with... less than spotless reputations. That's why he's so hard to catch."
