"Harry Potter- Ravenclaw"Chapter 195: Perhaps They're Just Scapegoats?
As the two armored bone giants crumbled away, Wyzett gently patted the scales atop the Basilisk's head. "Close your eyes, then let me down, please."
"Very well…" The Basilisk coiled its massive body, forming a tight spiral.
It lowered its head, allowing Wyzett to slide safely to the ground.
Once he was clear, the Basilisk tucked its head into the center of its coils. "Remember… remember… Salazar… Slytherin…"
"Of course," Wyzett replied in Parseltongue, nodding in reassurance.
Pansy erupted with frantic hissing. "What are you doing? He's lying to you! Kill him now!"
But the Basilisk gave no response, only tightening its coils further.
Denied any reaction, Pansy grew more and more frantic. She swung her notebook wildly, as if she could batter her way out of the bone cage.
"Perhaps we should let Professor Snape handle this?" suggested Professor McGonagall. "After all, he is Head of Slytherin House."
"Severus would be ideal," Dumbledore agreed, his tone shifting. "But he's just left the school on urgent business. For now, our priority is to keep her from harming herself."
"Leaving school at a time like this?" McGonagall adjusted her glasses, frowning. "That's unusual… he almost never leaves Hogwarts except at the end of term."
Dumbledore smiled benignly. "There are always exceptions, Minerva. After all, it's the weekend—everyone deserves a little freedom."
…
Pansy clung to the notebook, smashing it again and again against the bone bars. The skin between her thumb and forefinger had split, blood flowing freely.
Wyzett noticed that every drop of blood was absorbed by the notebook—none dripped to the floor, nor did it stain the cover or pages.
"Headmaster Dumbledore, that notebook… it must be a magical artifact. Maybe it's the key to the Chamber—the Heir's inheritance?"
Dumbledore looked at Wyzett and blinked twice. "Why not try something… new? See if you can take the notebook from her."
"Something new?" Wyzett stepped closer, stopping right in front of Pansy.
She glared at him with wild hatred. "You Obscurial! I've no idea why Draco even bothers with you… you're worse than a Mudblood…"
"Are you talking about yourself?" Wyzett arched an eyebrow, his voice icy and sharp. "You're a witch, but all you can do is bash a cage with a book? Pathetic."
"Let me guess… did you get 'T's in every subject that requires a wand? You really do look like… a troll flailing a club."
Dumbledore and McGonagall exchanged glances, lips pressed tight, but the amusement at the corners of their mouths was impossible to hide. In Wyzett's words, both heard a trace of Snape's signature sarcasm.
"You dare call me a troll!" Pansy's eyes bulged with fury as she whipped out her wand.
Professor McGonagall reacted instantly, wand in hand. "Wyzett, get back!"
But before Pansy could cast, her body stiffened. A gray-white hue spread from her wand hand, crawling over her entire body, freezing her where she stood.
Staring at the newly-formed statue, McGonagall lowered her wand and adjusted her glasses. "What… just happened?"
"If it were just a simple spell, nothing like this would have happened…" Wyzett replied, carefully prying the notebook from Pansy's rigid grip. "But her malice was overflowing…"
Dumbledore stroked his beard. "Just a little bit of his own unique magic, Minerva. Nothing to worry about."
…
"Aguamenti!" Wyzett opened the notebook and cast the Water-Making Spell, conjuring a stream of inky water that poured over the pages.
Just as before, the notebook absorbed the liquid completely, not a stain in sight—only two lines of text appeared:
Hold this notebook, and it will guide you to become the great Salazar Slytherin's heir.
Offer your blood, and the notebook will lead you to the Chamber to continue Salazar Slytherin's unfinished work.
Wyzett flipped through the rest of the pages, finding rough maps connecting the Slytherin common room to the abandoned bathroom, each route clearly marked.
On the page showing the abandoned bathroom, new writing appeared beside the sketch of the sink:
Find the serpent mark on the sink. Hold the notebook and say to the mark: Open.
The Chamber's page carried another note:
Hold the notebook, close your eyes, and in the most respectful tone, say to the great Salazar Slytherin statue: Speak to me, Slytherin! Greatest of the Hogwarts Four!
…
Wyzett activated his Oculus Magicae, combining his knowledge of alchemy and magical artifact crafting to examine the notebook's true purpose.
After a long moment, he handed it to Dumbledore. "Headmaster, there's Unplottable magic woven into it—that's why we never found Pansy Parkinson."
"Also, the notebook uses a unique enchantment to imprison a Runespoor inside… I suspect that's how Pansy Parkinson could speak Parseltongue."
"Maybe that's why the Basilisk never fully obeyed her commands… but it's all a little too convenient. Why a Runespoor, specifically?"
"Headmaster, do you think this notebook—and Pansy Parkinson herself—might just be scapegoats? It's just a theory… I don't have enough proof yet."
Dumbledore took the notebook, listening as he cast diagnostic spells. When Wyzett finished, he lowered his wand.
"In a short time, that's about all I can deduce as well."
"So, both the notebook and Miss Parkinson are scapegoats? An intriguing idea… but that's for us to ponder."
He looked up at the statue of Salazar Slytherin. "Would you like to look inside? See if there's anything besides the Basilisk hidden there?"
Wyzett turned to the Basilisk. "We're going to take a look inside. I'll bring you to Headmaster Slytherin soon."
"Good… hurry…"
Wyzett faced the statue. "Speak to me, Slytherin! Greatest of the Hogwarts Four!"
The statue stirred. Its mouth opened wider and wider, until it became a yawning, pitch-black cavern.
Dumbledore flicked his wand, gathering bones into a broad staircase that led up to the darkness.
Professor McGonagall was already on the move, shifting into her tabby cat Animagus form and leaping nimbly up the bone stairs into the shadows…
