Chapter 3 - Underessence And Cores...

Saquin sat on the slain Underbeast in silence.

'That was definitely ominous.'

"Hmm, deal with it when it comes," Saquin shrugged off his worries as soon as they came.

His attention was pulled back to the kill notification of the Underbeast.

[ You have successfully killed a Low-Class Grade One(1) Underbeast. ]

[ Underessence extracted. ]

[ Core gained. ]

He felt like he could expand the notifications, so he willed it.

Then.

[ A Low-Class Grade One Underbeast -- Grolly Bird (No Bloodline) -- has been successfully slain. ]

"Grolly Bird, huh?" Saquin noted the name of the Underbeast creature. He continued reading.

[ Underessence has been successfully extracted.

Would you like to absorb it?

{ Yes } - { No } ]

"I think I should push that forward for now, still don't know what it does." Saquin decided to ignore the question for now.

'It most likely should empower me, but, better safe than sorry.'

He moved on.

[ Low-Class Grade One Core gained:

--- Wings of the wingless ---

Description: A Core item that grants the user flight ability. ]

"Huh?" Saquin was taken aback. "I can fly if I use this?"

He instantly willed the Core item out.

Saquin felt something sprout out his back. He turned over to see that he now had wings. The wings were a carbon copy of the Grolly Bird's wings. White, with barely more than a meter in length.

"Cool."

Saquin tried to move the wings and saw that it easily followed his instructions. It was like having additional limbs. Limbs that came with their how-to-use imprinted into the brain.

"So that is what the flight ability means. It does not just give me wings but also the know how to fly." Saquin mused to himself.

'Is this not too miraculous for a Low-Class Core?'

Saquin stopped his thoughts there. He still did not have enough knowledge to reach any conclusions.

To all he knew, maybe Cores were not gained so easily. Maybe they were but it was the killing of the Underbeast that was hard. Or is it the finding of one. Not to talk of the fact that, maybe, just maybe, the world of the Empowered was that miraculous.

'Ignorance, oh, my ignorance.'

Saquin took a deep breath as his gaze refocused on the Underessence section.

'Should I? Or should I not?'

As Saquin contemplated, a new screen prompt appeared.

[ System Hint: Underessence can be used to strengthen the User or can be used to strengthen Cores. ]

"Oh, that's nice. Wish I could get these hints more often." Saquin was delighted by the sudden System Hint, it had cleared up a couple things for him.

"I rather use it for the core for now." Saquin decided almost immediately. He did not know to what extent the User strengthening would be and if it had any underlying negative effective.

Again, better safe than sorry.

[ Use extracted Underessence to upgrade Core?

{Yes} - {No}

]

The system responded to his will.

"Yes."

Saquin felt the wings vibrate mildly.

[ Low-Class Grade One Core -- Wing of the wingless -- upgrade bar increased by 10% ]

[ Wings of the wingless -- Low-Class Grade One (10/100)

Description: A Core item that grants the user flight ability. ]

"Ten percent... It seems I would need nine more Low-Class Underessence to complete its upgrade. I think." Saquin nodded to himself.

He was finally done with sorting out the system notifications.

Killing his urge to take off into the sky, he stared down at the corpse of the Grolly Bird.

"Not sure if this is edible. Plus it looks humanoid. I don't think I should take it with me either." Saquin sprang up to his feet in one fluid motion.

"Now, to fly."

A gust of wind hit the floor as Saquin's body shot up into the air.

Saquin hovered a couple meters off the ground, the [Wings of the wingless] were very silent as they flapped.

'I should stick to flying at the tree top level. Any higher should not be advisable in an unfamiliar environment.'

Despite his thoughts, Saquin was very much excited. He could barely stop the smile creeping up his face.

Flying.

He was fucking flying.

Barely an hour after being freed from a life time of shackles, being transported to this world.

He was already fucking flying.

He could not even conceive the wonders and powers he would see after spending a month in the Empowered world. What about a year, a decade.

Voom!

He could barely contain his excitement anymore as he shot forward with the wings.

Saquin's body shot through the air in a zig zag motion as he deftly avoided the trees. The wings were fast but not too much, he could wager that he could run faster.

But, he was definitely not going down, flying is the best.

He also noted that just like his [Black-Ink], his [Wings of the wingless] runs on his energy and stamina, which he had in surplus.

"Let's go!"

Saquin could feel his rather cold blood pumping for the first time in forever.

"Huh?"

His vigorous self came to a sudden stop. He dived into the canopy of a tree as his wings retracted themselves.

He peered downwards.

"Interesting, a battle."
