Nancy brought out the messages. Luis took them, frowned as he read, and said, "They really are like a lingering ghost."
Then he pretended to be surprised. "Elder Sister, why did you sign a contract with them? I told you it was a scam company."
"I, I didn't think it through at the time!" Nancy bit her lip, her face full of grievance, looking pitiful and wronged. "By the time you told me, I'd already signed and taken the money."
Luis kept reading the messages, not looking up as he asked, "A deposit, right? How much did they give you?"

"What?? How much??"

Luis lifted his head and stared straight at her, his face a picture of utter disbelief. Nancy lowered her head like a child caught stealing from her parents, feeling uneasy under his gaze.
