Chapter 50 - War Games!

Watching from the walls I saw the spread out force, 375 Lithoni warriors arranged themselves out half of the Guards. 4 Battalions, 10 squads in each and 16 men in each squad. 640 Lithoni served as guards. Although in actual siege scenario all the Lithoni would join in with the Treants using their magic abilities to harass them. Fungi very much believed in the Philosophy of total war.

The way I had broken the training down into was that today, we would do a basic batte. The Lithoni were equiped with training equipment that they couldn't hurt each other with out actually trying.

I had already explained it, and the others who weren't part of the training were made aware. Tomorrow it would be total war practice middle of the morning then in the afternoon a battle against me where it was just the guards and then the evening of tomorrow it would be against essentially the whole Lithoni population.

I had communicated with Anastasia about the war games but the new hobby she had found held her attention. She also refuses to tell me what the hobby she had found was. Using a thin sheet rock from the wall I levitated above the walls gaining a bird's-eye view. Now I couldn't pull this off in actual combat and I couldn't go fast but the skill was useful for scouting and that was pretty much it.

I watched as Darevellum cupped his hands and yelled something and they burst into action. I had told them that they could wrek the walls as I could easily repair them, but they couldn't touch anything else.

The Invaders won if even a single one of them reached the Mycelium Keep. The defenders won if they defeated all the Invaders.

As the Invaders hit the wall they clampered up them the defenders got a few of them out with spears and a few blunt arrows. However it quickly became a battle on the walls. The defenders slaughtered the Invaders, well not actually killing them but still. Narrating the battle in my head assigning name you would hear in a college football game that my dad loved so much.

It was bit humorous from my perch above the battle as when ever the Invaders or defenders where 'slain' the healers would elevate them out of the way, I had asked them about the skill turns out it requires consent of those effected and if the person who was levitated was attacked they would fall. So intermittently a person would get hit and they were yeeted into the air.

The turn of the battle occurred when the Invaders figured out a strategy to break the up the defenders. They simply leaped into the center of there formations and right into their archers.

Chaos reigned as the Invaders kept on leaping like maniacs into their formations. The spearman tried to keep the leapers out of the sky and yet when the did a wave of bodies slammed into the shield bearers.

I saw the defenders temporary commander call a retreat. The 'slaughter' was turned fully on the retreating Defenders. Eventually the defenders pulled back to the Inner ring wall.the invaders walked calmly and orderly to the Inner wall.

Then as I scanned the cavern in the break of the exercise I saw something. Furry forms watching the Keep. Obviously they had been there for some time but eh let them watch. The Rabbits were allowed to live for a grace period as far as I was concerned.

Looking back just in time to see the defenders try to hold the wall. It was kinda sad, but at least we had the practice now!

In the Warrens

...

Dorthinoxin watched the events unfold, chewing into something called a Turkish delight he was disappointed. The movie he had watched had made them seem like a Divine treat, they weren't bad but still false advertising!

Returning to the view he was watchimg in the specific instance of the [Beckoning Abyss].

"Oh, great Fore Father and Mother I come bearing great news!" A rabbit bowed to two massive ones it ears where sleek to the back of it head.

"Yes Child speak of this news" the Fore Mother spoke, or well partially spoke, the cave rabbits spoke with a mixture of squeaks and body language.

"There's a rebellion—" the small rabbit was interrupted by the Fore Father.

"WHO DARES REBEL AGAINST THEIR ANCESTORS!!!" He yelled or at least he did the rabbit equivalent just for his snout to be smacked shut.

"Dear, listen to the full message of our descendant before you burst your heart" the Fore Mother communicated to her mate. The rabbit looked ashamed for a moment.

"Continue Child" the Fore Mother stated to the rabbit scout.

"Of course Fore Mother, there's a rebellion amgost the fungal kin, a force of a few hundred stormed their walls!" The rabbit spoke excitedly.

"Truly?" The Fore Father spoke out a smile of sorts appeared on his features. I the great Dorthinoxin was still somewhat curfuffled as the Terrans but it.

Back to the Mycelium Keep

...

The battle had ended with the Invaders winning after breaking through with a small force and entering the area of the Keep. It really was a nice attempt on the Defenders part but they lacked a lot of the required coordination required. However I notice several weaknesses, as the Idea was that the Walls would be impenetrable to us at the end.

Lowering my platform I raised my hands and with a flex of will I shifted.the design of the walls. First off the round walls where changed to sharp edges, and next I made a corridor of kill slots for archers just below the wall. Towers rose up from the ground around us at the octangular outer wall where each wall segment met. Hopefully they would act as bastions for defenders from suicidal guys going like cannonballs into the defending ranks. Next I shifted the stairs to only exit from the tower.

Now it was time to check the Healing House, after a short walk I watched as the bustle of a small market place remained undisturbed by the War Games which was good as disturbing the others was not the point of the exercise. Entering the bustling the Healing House I saw only minor scratches and the like as well as the cheering of the Invaders and grumbling of the Defenders.

Standing in the center I felt several eyes on me as the conversations dulled to a stop as I stood there feeling awkward for a moment before I began speaking.

"Thank you all for participating in this exercise, tomorrow it will be a total war scenario, the Spiders, Anastasia, and her Puppets will attempt to take the walls your goals will be to hold her and her allies off!" I said hoping that Anastasia wasn't going to be pissed about me volunteering her.

...

'you did what!' Anastasia protested from her web as she pouted after I told her

'like I've said like five times already, You and your siblings are going to act as the Invaders alongside your puppets' I explained to her as her eyes glared at me.

'but why tomorrow I have plans' she pouted.

'what are your plans?' I asked her as unless it was really important we needed her for the practice as I would be overkill if I replaces her.

'I can't tell you!' She responded returning to looking at the wall and not at me.

'Well this is important and if you don't tell How can I know if what your doing is important?' I asked her. I know pretty dushy but still these practices were important for insuring the survival of the Fungal Folk.

'what if here me out Boss I make a really powerful silk puppet!' she proposed as she turned to back at me

'sure but it better be a worthy stand in, Okay?' I stated as she nodded her head.

...

My night had mostly uneventful with my morning proceeding as normal. Though the morning debrief from the council stated there were more hare sightings.

Afterwards I walked to the new outer ring, and while it wasn't a ring it was not be renamed to the outer octagon liking a weird wrestling tournament.

As I stood on the walls overseeing the army of spiders, spider puppets, and tall semi humanoid spider labeled by the system as [Arache Silk Double]. It's upper body was vaugely humanoid with a head and two arms with the midsection meeting with the spiders body. Honestly kinda terrifying but it was time for me to see if its battle prowess could match. The silk puppets numbered ten thousand, they where half step Rank two, so each one was several times weaker than a Lithoni warrior.

Once again I elevated myself to the sky perched high above. The Guards were spilt in two even groups on both walls. The Treants capable of fighting with magic standing on the walls and the rest of the Lithoni standing in front of the Outer Ring to distract the fire to them while their allies rained fire.

The clash soon started, and a barrage of dulled arrows and magic spells clashed into the rows of puppets. The battle hit a small stalemate as the non guard Lithoni crashed into them. Then like a wrecking ball the [Arache Silk Double] hit the field. Like a reaper to wheat she caused the Lithoni Warriors to be rapidly plucked out of the air. It seems like Anastasia's stand in was working!

Eventually after losing a chunk of their forces the puppets where halted a moment before they slowly pushed up the walls. The Defenders were pushed to the towers as the spiders and the puppets held them there as their compatriots flowed down from the wall and into the outer ring.

They hadn't held the wall, but they had been far more successful then last time. The battle for the Inner ring wall was the game changer.

First a blast of arrows rained down and this time they managed to hold the wall. The Spiders despite trying to break and wreck havoc unfortunately for them the inner wall commander was highly skilled and then I saw them and smiled.

Darevellum barked orders while not directly interfering with the battle. Then puppets where being flanked by the remaining Lithoni and with that signal move majority of the Puppets were decimated.... Though they were only fodder.

What happened next was a brutal affair for a training session at least. The [Arache Silk Double] forced her way onto the walls. The spiders soon followed and began to string there webs crafting their own fortifications on top of the fortifications. Soon after the spiders won, barely but still it wasn't good enough.
