Chapter 17 - On the run! The wolf king's humane tenderness

It started to drizzle, and Daniel walked through the night carrying the weak Gina on his back. The blood awakening and the battle just now consumed too much of her energy, and now she even had difficulty maintaining her wolf form.

"Can you still hold on?" Daniel felt the weight on his back increasing.

"No problem." Gina's voice was soft but stubborn, "I won't hold you back."

The rain was getting heavier and heavier, and Daniel's clothes were soon soaked. They had to find a safe place to rest as soon as possible.

"There's an abandoned gas station ahead." Daniel saw the outline of the station in the distance through the rain curtain, "Let's go there to take shelter from the rain."

At this moment, the roar of an engine came from behind. The pursuers are coming again!

"Damn, their sense of smell is really keen." Daniel quickened his pace.

But Gina's condition was getting worse, her temperature was dropping and her breathing was becoming rapid.

"Daniel, put me down," she said weakly, "You can run faster alone."

"Shut up." Daniel's tone was firm, "We said we would go together, so let's go together."

The lights of the chasing car were getting closer and closer, and Daniel was secretly anxious. At this moment, Gina did something that shocked him.

She hugged Daniel's neck tightly with her weak body, and then spread her wing-like hair to block the cold wind and rain for him.

"What are you doing? This will make you deplete your energy faster!" Daniel said anxiously.

"It's okay." Gina's voice was soft but warm. "You have done so much for me. Now it's my turn to protect you."

At this moment, Daniel felt an unprecedented touch. This was not between a master and a pet, nor between a boss and an employee, but the purest protection between two lives.

"Silly girl." Daniel's voice was a little choked, "I swear, no matter what happens, I will protect you to the end."

Finally, they arrived at the abandoned gas station. Daniel kicked open the rusty door and hid inside with Gina in his arms.

No one has been here for a long time, and there are dust and cobwebs everywhere. But at least it can keep out the wind and rain.

Daniel found a relatively clean corner and gently put Gina down. Her condition was worse than he had imagined, her silver hair had lost its luster, and even her eyes were a little blurry.

"Gina, hold on!" Daniel checked her condition nervously.

"I'm fine." Gina forced her eyes open, "Just a little tired."

"Don't be so stubborn." Daniel took off his coat and wrapped her carefully. "Have a good rest."

Gina leaned in Daniel's arms, feeling his body temperature. This feeling of being protected reminded her of something that happened a long time ago.

"Daniel, I want to tell you something." Her voice was light, like a feather.

"What is it?" Daniel stroked her hair.

"Actually, this isn't the first time I've transformed into an animal." Gina's eyes flashed with a complicated look, "When I was a kid, whenever I felt scared or lonely, I would involuntarily transform into an animal."

Daniel listened quietly without interrupting.

"At that time, I always hid in the corner of the garden and turned into a kitten or a bird. Only in this way could I escape from the intrigues and find a sense of security."

"What happened next?" Daniel asked.

"Then I grew up, learned to control myself, and learned to disguise myself." Gina's voice was a little bitter, "I thought I no longer needed that kind of escape. But when Henry betrayed me and the whole world became dangerous, I turned back into the little animal hiding in the corner."

Daniel felt her fragility and hugged her tightly with heartache.

"You know what?" Gina continued, "When I met you on that rainy night, I thought I was going to die. But you not only saved me, but also gave me the warmth I had never experienced before."

"What warmth?"

"The warmth of being loved unconditionally." Gina raised her head, tears sparkling in her purple eyes. "After working in the business world for so many years, everyone who approached me had a purpose. Only you treated me as your most precious partner."

Daniel's heart was deeply touched. He gently wiped away the tears from her eyes.

"That's because you deserve to be well cared for." He said gently, "Whether you are a billionaire female CEO or a little silver wolf, you are equally precious in my heart."

Daniel felt a warm energy surging in his body, which slowly flowed to Gina in his arms.

A miracle happened. Gina's hair regained its silvery sheen and her breathing became steady and strong.

"What is this?" Gina was surprised to feel the changes in her body. "I feel your vitality flowing into me."

"Shared lives," Daniel explained. "From now on, our lives are truly connected."

Gina looked at him in shock: "Do you know what this means? If I die, you will also..."

"I know." Daniel interrupted her, "but I don't regret it."

Tears welled up in Gina's eyes. She had never thought that someone would be willing to do this for her.

"Daniel, I..." She wanted to say something, but was interrupted by the noise outside.

The pursuers found this place.

"Hide first." Daniel picked up Gina, who had recovered some of her strength, and hid in the storage room behind the gas station.

Through the shabby shutters, they saw a dozen men in black surrounding the gas station, led by a mysterious woman wearing a mask, not Victor.

"The Silver Moon Wolf King's aura disappeared here." The masked woman's voice was cold. "Search every corner carefully."

Daniel and Gina held their breath and hugged each other tightly.

At this moment, Gina suddenly whispered in Daniel's ear: "No matter what happens, I want you to know that meeting you is the luckiest thing in my life."

This sentence made Daniel's heart tremble. He also responded in her ear: "It is my greatest honor to protect you."

The two men looked at each other, and at this moment of life and death, an emotion that transcended life and death flowed between them.

The footsteps were getting closer and closer, but Daniel and Gina were no longer afraid, because they knew that no matter what difficulties they faced, they were no longer alone, but partners who shared life and death.

There was a sound of picking the lock outside the door.

But this time, they have a force more powerful than any weapon - each other's lives and trust.

The decisive battle is about to begin.
