Chapter 21 - CH 21

The return of Mikoto Uchiha to life was an event kept secret with the utmost care. Only Kaien, Akari, Tsunade, and Sasuke knew of the miracle. Mikoto, full of gratitude, gradually regained her bearings, marveling at every detail of the world she had thought lost. Her presence brought an unexpected light into Sasuke's life—a warm pillar beginning to soften the sharp edges of his quest.

Karin Uzumaki, meanwhile, moved into Kaien and Akari's home. She was initially wary, used to harshness and being exploited, but Kaien's genuine kindness and Akari's gentle warmth slowly broke down her walls. Her flaming red hair, like Kaien and Akari's, hinted at the familial bond she was rediscovering.

Behind the scenes in Konoha, preparations for the third stage of the Chūnin Exams were in full swing. But a shadow was growing—noticed by Kaien's Eyes of Infinity and Tsunade's sharp intuition. Danzo Shimura, the man behind Konoha's darkest roots, was becoming increasingly active.

A few days after her arrival, Karin sat in the living room, watching Fae and Ryuu play near Kaien. Fae flitted joyfully around Kaien's head, while Ryuu, the little green dragon, tried to bite his sleeve with innocent excitement.

"They're... strange," Karin said, a faint smile forming—an uncommon moment of peace.

"They're my friends," Kaien replied, petting Ryuu. "They were born from my energy. They love everyone." He looked at Karin with kind eyes. "Are you feeling better, Karin?"

Karin lowered her gaze. "Yeah... It's just... I've never had this. No one ever cared about me like this." Her hands clenched on her knees. "My old team... they only saw me as a healing tool."

Akari, entering the room with a tray of tea, sat beside her. "That's over now, Karin," she said gently. "You're safe here. You're part of our family. We don't use anyone. We help each other."

"Your family...?" Karin looked at her in surprise.

"Yes," Kaien nodded confidently. "You're an Uzumaki. We're Uzumaki. It's like a big family—except we're really here for you."

Warmth unexpectedly bloomed in Karin's chest. Tears welled up in her eyes. "I... I don't know what to say. Thank you. Thank you, Akari. Thank you, Kaien."

Akari hugged her gently. "No need to thank us, dear. Just be yourself. And rest. You've been through a lot."

Later, Kaien and Karin sat alone in the garden, watching the stars emerge in the Konoha sky.

"Your eyes," Karin began curiously. "They're so... different. And your hair—does it change color when you use your power?"

"Yes," Kaien replied, his fiery red hair catching the last rays of sunlight, silver strands already visible. "My eyes are the Eyes of Infinity. They let me see many things. And my hair... it's just how my body reacts to the energy of my dimension. It's normal for me."

"Normal?" Karin repeated, incredulous. "None of this is normal, Kaien! It's amazing. You're... so powerful. Yet so kind." She turned toward him. "Why did you help me? You didn't even know me."

Kaien looked at her, his eyes full of sincerity. "I saw that you were alone and hurting. You have good energy inside you, even if it's hidden by sadness. I want to help people who need it." He patted the ground next to him. "Sit. Watch the stars with me. They're beautiful."

Karin sat beside him, staring at the sky. "I never had time to look at stars. I was always running. Or hiding."

"Now you have time," Kaien said softly. "And you're safe."

Meanwhile, Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura trained with their new summons. Ryūjin, Naruto's blue dragon, was majestic and fierce—perfectly mirroring his personality. Kuroi Ryū, Sasuke's black dragon, was swift and deadly, moving with lethal grace. Hōō, Sakura's phoenix, glowed warmly, its flames possessing remarkable healing properties.

On a secluded training ground, Kakashi watched them with pride and puzzlement. Kaien's introduction of these summons had drastically shifted Team 7's dynamic.

"Ryūjin, dragon tail strike!" Naruto shouted. The huge blue dragon swept the ground, sending a shockwave across the field.

"Kuroi Ryū, lightning strike!" Sasuke commanded, and the black dragon vanished, reappearing behind a target with lethal precision.

Sakura focused her chakra, and Hōō spread its wings, releasing glowing particles that healed small wounds on training dummies.

"Incredible," Kakashi murmured. "Far beyond what I could've taught alone. Kaien... he's truly something else."

Kaien and Akari arrived shortly after, observing with pride.

"How's the training going?" Akari asked.

"Amazing, Akari!" Naruto beamed. "Ryūjin is awesome! I can feel his power!"

"They're learning fast," Kaien nodded. "Their bonds with their summons are deepening. It's not just a contract—it's a soul connection."

Sasuke nodded. "Kuroi Ryū... is an extension of my will. There's no hatred. Just strength."

Sakura smiled at her phoenix. "Hōō is teaching me the true meaning of healing. It's not just the body—it's the heart too."

Kakashi interjected, "We need to talk about the Chūnin Exams—especially the third stage. It'll be a one-on-one tournament in front of everyone. The Daimyōs will be there. Kage from other villages. It's a chance to show your worth."

"We're ready, Kakashi-sensei!" Naruto declared proudly.

"I'm sure you are," Kakashi said. "But be careful. Tension is high. And we're not the only ones who feel it. Tsunade and Akari sense it too."

"Indeed," Akari said. "There's a strange pressure in the air. Something's coming."

Tsunade, arms crossed, added, "Danzo is more active than usual. His spies are everywhere. And Orochimaru's presence in the Forest of Death wasn't a coincidence. He's after something—or someone."

"He'll get no one," Kaien said calmly, though his eyes darkened. "I won't let him hurt the people I love."

In the days leading up to the final stage, Tsunade and Akari held a serious conversation with Kaien in the Hokage's office.

"Mom, Tsunade," Kaien said seriously. "What's going on with Danzo? I can feel his energy—it's dark and manipulative."

"He's an old man with a lot of power and very little conscience," Tsunade explained. "He leads a Konoha faction called Root. He believes the ends justify any means. He's always rivaled the Third Hokage."

"And he's interested in you, sweetheart," Akari added, worry on her face. "Your abilities, your eyes, your summons... they're unique. He'll want to control you—or worse."

"I won't be controlled," Kaien said firmly. "I'll never be a tool for evil. I know right from wrong."

"We know, my love," Akari said, gently cupping his cheek. "But he's dangerous. That's why we have to hide your powers as much as possible."

"That's why you wear that special headband in public," Tsunade added. "It masks your eyes. We've spread the story that Fae and Ryuu are rare summons we found—not connected to you."

"I understand," Kaien nodded. "I'll be careful. I want to protect everyone."

"And we protect you," Tsunade said. "Knowledge of your power could cause panic—or draw the wrong kind of attention."

They discussed strategies for the final round. Tsunade reminded Kaien that Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura's summons needed to remain mysterious. And Kaien must stay an observer—unless absolutely necessary.

Kaien agreed, fully aware of the ninja world's dangers—not just external enemies, but internal threats.

One night, Karin lay in her room, troubled by everything that had happened. The door opened gently—Kaien appeared, Ryuu sleeping in his arms.

"Mom said you were worried," Kaien said softly. "Can't sleep?"

Karin shook her head. "Everything's so different. I'm not used to kindness."

Kaien sat on the bed. "It's normal to fear new things. But sometimes, new things are good. Here, you can just be yourself."

"But who am I?" Karin's voice cracked. "I've always been the healer... the clanless Uzumaki. A survivor with nowhere to go."

"You're Karin," Kaien said firmly. "My mom says you're strong—even if you don't know it yet. You're kind—even if life wasn't. And now, you're our family. That's who you are."

He handed Ryuu to her. The little dragon cuddled against her chest. Karin, surprised, held him gently. His warmth was incredibly comforting.

"He's... so cute," she murmured tearfully.

"He already loves you," Kaien said. "Dragons and fae sense good hearts. Yours is very good."

"I want to be like you," she whispered. "Strong and kind. And help others."

"You will," Kaien promised. "And we'll help you." He stood up. "If you need to talk, anytime—come find me. Or Mom. Or Tsunade. We're all here for you."

Karin nodded, holding Ryuu tightly. For the first time in forever, she didn't feel alone.

Tension grew in the following days. The arena was ready. The stands were full of officials, nobles, and civilians. The qualified genin stood in a circle, waiting for the match announcements.

Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, and Hinata were present. Ino, also qualified, looked around for Kaien, her growing feelings for him evident. She saw him with Akari and Tsunade, his gaze calm and aura reassuring.

"Tension's at its peak," Tsunade murmured to Kaien. "Don't forget the plan."

"Don't worry, Mother," Kaien replied. "I'll be careful. I always am."

The Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, addressed the crowd. "Welcome, everyone, to the final stage of the Chūnin Exams! These young ninja have proven their worth and determination. Today, they'll fight for the honor of their village—and the chance to become Chūnin!"

The matches were announced. Naruto vs. Neji. Sasuke vs. Gaara. Others followed—fights that would decide the most promising ninja of this generation.

Kaien, watching Naruto, felt anticipation. He knew Naruto was stronger than ever—and ready to prove it. So were Sasuke and Sakura. Their secret summons had given them a tremendous edge.

But Kaien's Eyes of Infinity saw cracks in the facade—strange chakra signatures and hostile intentions in the crowd. He felt Orochimaru's presence lurking in the shadows... and another cold, calculating energy: the Fourth Kazekage. But Kaien instantly knew—it wasn't the real Kazekage.

"Mother, Tsunade," Kaien murmured, his eyes glowing with caution. "That's not the real Kazekage. His chakra is... off. There's danger coming."

The two women tensed. They trusted Kaien's senses completely.

"Stay alert, Kaien," Tsunade warned. "Be ready to act if chaos erupts—but discreetly."

"Yes, Mother," Kaien answered, his eyes fixed on the arena. The curtain was about to rise on a trial that would change far more than the fate of a few genin. The calm before the storm was palpable—and Kaien was ready to protect those he loved, even if it meant revealing a piece of his true self.
