Chapter 3 - Cockroach in the soup

Zara's POV

"Are you for real? She is looking even younger than me? And I will have to call her mom? No, never."

He talked to himself and started to look ahead. I looked down, thinking nothing is easy, and then I felt his touch on my cheek, which led me to glance at him.

"If you are tired, then get rest. Once we reach the mansion, I will wake you up. Cuz you can't fall asleep on a hungry stomach, can you?"

I didn't really want to fall asleep, but I wasn't able to say no to his offer and quickly leaned into his arms and closed my eyes. As I did, I was feeling quite nice and peaceful. I didn't even realize I had fallen asleep.

When I opened my eyes, I found I was in Lucian's arms and he was walking.

"You are awake, babe? We've reached our mansion too."

"Sir, can you please put me down?"

"Call me Lucian, not sir," he said.

I nodded quickly, and he put me down. I saw, in front of me, the mansion was standing tall and it was so big and massive. Even in my pack, our alpha doesn't have this much luxury. There were so many types of cars parked in front of the mansion and many bodyguards were standing there too.

I was standing beside Lucian, and Cassian was nowhere to be seen. As we stepped inside, a maid came and stood there.

"Master, should I heat the food?" she asked Lucian.

"Yes, do it. And make less spicy food from now on for Zara," he said.

Hearing him, I glanced up and looked at that maid. She was not that old. She was a young woman, and her cheeks were red as she looked at Lucian. But then her gaze turned toward me, full of disgust. Her facial expressions were telling me she was angry seeing me.

Lucian started to walk inside. I was about to follow, but she pushed my shoulder and went after him inside.

"Master, who is this girl? Did you bring her cuz you pity her and are gonna adopt her?" she asked in a soft voice.

And it was clear that she liked Lucian—obviously, that's why she wanted to know who I was. Lucian untied his tie while walking, then suddenly stopped, turned back, and glanced at me.

"Why aren't you following your husband? Come here. I will show you our bedroom," he said, and I went to him. My feet weren't hurting that much now. As I went to him—

We both went upstairs, and when we stepped into his bedroom, it was so big. The bedsheets and quilt were dark. Even the curtains were black. And there was a little darkness in the room.

Just then I heard the door locking sound and glanced back—he had locked the door and switched on the lights.

I stood there looking at him, and he took steps toward me.

"Umm, you can't always wear lingerie. So go and take a bath. I will get your clothes ready."

Hearing him, I went into the bathroom. And as I took off that coat and lingerie, I noticed my legs were swollen and the mark that said I was a slave had a bandage on it.

I was standing in front of the mirror, moving around to see my whole body. Then I stepped into the bathtub and soaked myself in it—even though the water was making my back itch, I still didn't come out, cuz it's therapy for me, soaking in cold water.

After taking a bath, I wore a bathrobe, and as I slightly opened the door, I saw my clothes were hanging on the door. And Lucian was standing near the window, looking outside and busy on the call.

I quickly grabbed those clothes and closed the door. It was a pair of shorts and a loose T-shirt, along with two bras and one panty. Wait—how does he know about my size? Every size was perfect, but when I wore one of the two bras, it was very small and obviously not my size. That's why I tried to wear the other one, and it was perfect and comfortable.

After wearing those, I opened the door and stepped out. As I did, I saw he was standing half-naked while smoking on the bed.

"Lucian, I'm done," I told him after coming out.

"Come here," he said and gestured with his middle and index finger for me to come to him.

I went, and as I did, he crushed his cigarette on the floor and pulled me onto his lap. I flinched and my hands were on his chest. His hands wrapped around my waist and pulled me closer. With the other hand, he slid my hair to the other side.

He pressed his nose on my neck and started to sniff. "You smell very sweet," he said as he kept sniffing.

And just from his sniffing, my body started wiggling crazily. My grip tightened on his chest. Just then, he suddenly licked my neck while releasing his pheromones, which made me really scared—cuz what if he was thinking of marking me now?

"Are you scared of me?" he asked while continuing to lick my neck.

I would have to be obedient toward him and pretend to be a pitiful girl so he would keep me with him. That's why I rested my head on his shoulder.

"Little..." I said in a very low voice.

He chuckled hearing me and smooched my cheek.

"I'm not gonna eat you, so you don't need to be scared of me," he said. And out of nowhere, he suddenly started to smooch me on my neck with his teeth. My body was shaking. It was happening on its own.

And when he noticed that I was scared of my body shaking, he just hugged me tightly.

"That's enough for now. Let's go eat something."

He put me down on the bed, and he stood up, took some clothes out of the wardrobe, and went into the bathroom. After a while, when he came out, he was wearing a white shirt and pants. It was casual clothing. Still, he was looking handsome.

When we got ready, we both left the room and came downstairs. After coming down, he took me to the dining table and I sat down. After sitting, he also sat. And some servants gave us the soup.

The smell coming from the soup was nice. That's why I picked up the spoon and was about to eat. But as I did, I saw... there was a cockroach in the food. Only in my spoon. I got scared, seeing that, and threw the soup bowl on the ground.

"Aaaaa... cockroach!"

The servant who was talking with Lucian earlier came to me.

"What happened?"

"There was a cockroach in my soup," I said.

She bent down and started looking at the soup that was splashed on the ground.

"There is no cockroach in the soup. What are you talking about?"

As she said that, I quickly looked down, and indeed, there was no cockroach. My eyes turned everywhere, but there was no cockroach there.

"How dare you throw the food on the floor? Did you forget? This food is given by the goddess. And you disrespect and insult that food?"

She suddenly started to shout and lecture me. I glanced at Lucian, and he was, too, glaring at me like I did something wrong, but I just saw the cockroach in my soup. Or was that magic done by this servant?

"Lucian, swear to God, there was indeed a cockroach in my soup," I tried to explain.

"If you didn't like the soup, you should have told me. Why did you throw the soup on the ground, saying there was a cockroach? I'm disappointed in you."

My eyes widened hearing him, and I realized that it was just a cockroach. There was no need for me to behave like this.

I'm no longer a young girl who is spoiled, and whose father would care for her, everyone would love her, and who used to be scared of such things.

I need to be brave now, to face every problem, because what I'm aiming for is not easy.
