Chapter 5 - Supplies, supplies, supplies

I didn't know how long me and my dogs would be able to survive this apocalypse, but I was going to make sure I did everything to set the odds in our favor.

The best way to do that was to get ahead of everybody else. I knew I was not an ordinary person. The ordinary person would be in a corner somewhere crying right about now, but not me. I had already saved four dogs and was headed to the grocery store to do some apocalypse shopping!

Once I made it To my first stop, I headed straight to the meat department and fill the cart with literally everything I could fit in it. Of course I made sure to pick only the best of meats since money wasn't an issue with you know 95% of the population dead.

I had headed to this store specifically because I knew that the automatic doors had been broken for several months now. Given that fact, I figured that no crazy animals would have been able to get in and I was right.

The only signs in the store that the apocalypse had hit where that dried up mummified human corpses. I just stepped over them as I did my shopping.

I loaded my first cart up into my car, which I had emptied of everything before hand so I would have room for as many supplies as I can fit.

After my first run, I went back in and headed straight for the pet aisle and grabbed everything. My fur babies would need. Since money was an an issue right now I figured I would spoil them. It may be the apocalypse, but a pet mom's got a pamper her children, right?

After I had another cart full of pet supplies, I loaded them in my car and then went back in for a third run this time I picked up a Canned foods and dried items. Basically anything that had a very long shelf life.

Once that was done, I headed in for fourth and final run because my car was almost completely full. I grabbed basic supplies like medicine and other first aid things some basic cleaning supplies mainly just bleach. I figured that might come in handy. I went to the office supply aisle and grabbed a bunch of scissors. After that I went to the florist area and picked up a few pretty bouquets.

I figured all the flowers were just going to die and with the apocalypse I didn't know when I would be able to get flowers again, so I thought I might as well indulge.

After my car was all loaded up I went to the gas station nearby and filled up my tank. Unfortunately, since I didn't exactly know how to steal gas I still had to use my credit card to pay, but since all the banks were pretty much nonexistent now, I wasn't too worried about spending money on gas.

One of the perks of the apocalypse is that you don't have to worry about finances anymore or taxes! I was so happy that the apocalypse had killed taxes!

Instead of focusing on all the bad parts of the apocalypse, I was trying to focus on all the good parts. No more waiting in line no more having to go to the dentist no more politics of any kind and heck with the apocalypse kinda came world peace! Who would've thought all we needed to achieve it was a world ending catastrophe!

After my tank was filled, I got back in my car and decided to pop in a CD. Yes I know it's old school but pretty much all the radio stations are down and I don't wanna kill my phone battery. I drove off to the sounds of "It's the end of the world as we know" it playing in the background.

Once I got back home I headed straight to, not my own house, but my neighbors. I parked in their driveway and started unloading all the meat into their backyard.

I was planning on smoking at all. It was the best way to preserve it and with four dogs five if you can't Rosie to feed, I needed a lot of meat after their kibble ran out.

With how much I grabbed that would take a while, but I still figured that it would be best to have a back up plan.

And also, I could eat it too.

I googled a few videos and tutorials on how to smoke meat and got started.

It turns out it was gonna take a very long time to smoke all this meat so I decided to cook some as well the normal way.

Five days later

I had all the meat smoked, and Archie was getting a lot better from his injuries.

Now that I had my supplies mostly in order, it was time to start coming up with a game plan.

In the last five days, there had been more tremors and more weird lights. Me and the dogs have been not feeling well.

Something was happening to us, and I feared that something was happening to the rest of the world too, and it might be coming for us.

So we needed to be prepared for what was to come and the best way to do that was to find a fortified base that we could call home. My childhood home was a good place to write out the beginning of the apocalypse, but I had a feeling we wouldn't make it through the rest of it in this place.

We needed someplace much more defensible and I had just a place in mind. It was called granite Grove. It was a state park with one of the largest pieces Exposed of granite in the world. It was about a 45 minute drive from my house and it had a lot of wooded area and the top of the mountain itself would be a very good place to set up.

It was not easy to get to, and it had a wooded area near the summit that we could occupy. There was also a structure right Near the top of the mountain that we could also use as a base. And on the top of the mountain, you could see the surrounding area very well, which would make it easier to tell what was going on with the world.

There was also a small radio station nearby on the mountain as well not too far from the summit. It was used mostly in World War II but I figured I could use it to send out messages and maybe find other survivors.

I may be fine with just my dogs, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to try to get in touch with other people. My therapist did always tell me socializing is good for me.

With that plan in mind, I started setting things in motion.
