People say there is reward for good people but not in my world. In my world, the rich royals and nobles get high graded magic power while the poor get little or no magic so you can guess that they are treated like trash.
I am Kirito sakaguchi, from a village in the southern kingdom called Ackston. In the country of Winston, there are four kingdoms, WAES the capital and a place for the nobles and generals, and of course where the king stays. The northern kingdom a place with a little bit of hot climate and where most highborns live. The western kingdom an intensively cold area and has the poor commoners and finally the southern kingdom for the poorest farmers of them all.
On a bright afternoon, I left with my cousin Doji to fetch some water from the lake. About to reach the lake, ... I heard a scream. I ran to the location and saw a little girl about to be eaten by a spirit wolf. Spirit wolves are high graded spirit animals that are owned by nobles and feast on human flesh for energy, for that reason nobles send them to the south to feast on the poor.
There was no way we were stopping the spirit wolf. I dragged Doji's hand for us to run away and escape but Doji forced out his hand and said he was going to save the girl. Doji was normally a hot head but trying to fight a spirit wolf is a death wish. I couldn't let him go alone s we made a plan. Doji picked up a stick and distracted the wolf while I took the girl and ran as far as I could. I got far enough so I dropped the girl and tried to console her. As I was busy with the little girl,..... I heard Doji let out a loud scream. I ran back to his location and saw that the spirit wolf had bitten of his left arm. I didn't know what happened next, I lost control. Before I knew it, I produced fire with my hands and burnt the spirit wolf to death.
I held Doji in my arms as he was running out of blood. I didn't even have a clue on what to do. Suddenly, a holy knight came out of the woods with the little girl and asked me if I saw a spirit wolf anywhere. I explained everything that had happened to the holy knight. He then smiled and used spell to regenerate Doji's arm. He also said the he liked our courage and then gave us a ticket each to WAES Academy as a scholarship for two semesters. He then left with the little girl.
We ran home and told grandma what had happened for her to give us her permission to go to the capital. At first, grandma didn't like the idea, but we found a way to change her mind. In our country Wiston, mages are ranked according to level. After graduating from the Academy, you either become a mage or a visionary and get promoted to a holy knight or a light visionary and then get promoted to a higher up and from there attain the highest rank, AN IMMORTAL and all these can only be done by attending WAES Academy which is really expensive.
We had one week till we left for the capital so Doji and I spent it training. I tried producing fire with my hands again but it didn't work. The villagers laughed at Doji and I saying we should just give up but grandma told us not to listen. A week went by and it was time to go. Grandma gaves us her blessings and two silver coins Incase we needed anything. Southerners had to pay to use the southern route which linked it to the capital but we don't have enough money for that. We would be using the cursed route. A long time ago, southerners made a road connecting the south to the capital to prevent paying for the southern route. The queen then cursed the route with wild beast so that no one can use the route again.
But we are gonna use the route anyway. Doji and I packed up and left for the cursed route, I prey we don't die...
