Chapter 106 - Chapter 106

Rico pulled up to the field and parked behind the plane that was sitting out. It looks like they were almost done with getting it ready to go. So he climbed out and grabbed all the alien tech from the vehicle he stole and walked right up to the plane's open door. Where a young kid was swinging his legs.

"Excuse me." He climbed past him and into the plane. Seeing that it was filled with an abundance of gear and weapons. Most of the 'additional' passengers that they picked up along the way were already sitting down. Most of the farmer's family, John Ryan, the professor, and Coin's contact. There was an empty seat where he was sure the kid was supposed to be sitting. Rico stashed the alien tech and then moved to the cockpit.

The co-pilot's seat was open. But the pilot's seat was occupied by Artemis. She looked over at him and grunted before turning her attention to finishing the pre-flight checklist. "Coin is finishing a call. She is arranging for a stopover in Egypt and Paris before we get back to Gotham."

"Good. We will drop off her contact and the family in Egypt." Rico agreed as he pulled on the headset.

"That is what is taking her so long. Getting in contact with the right people so they are not deported. Fortunately, Miss Egyptian intelligence back there is more than willing to vouch for them." Artemis explained as Rico nodded in understanding and looked out the window to see Coin walking back to the plane. He made several hand motions and she nodded.

Coin climbed into the plane and closed the door. "I will do a quick headcount and then we are off." She told them as she started taking a count and then nodded. "Okay, we have everyone. Artemis and Rico, if you would." She moved to a box and sat on top of it.

Artemis started up the plane and Rico assisted her as they were soon using the farmer's fields as a runway. It took a lot longer since they were weighted down by all the extra weight. But when they got off the ground they flew right over some powerlines.

"Well that sucks." Artemis grunted as she fought to bring the plane into the air.

"Remember to keep it low until we are out of Biaylia. Are we good to cross into Quroc?" Rico asked toward the back as he made some adjustments so it was easier for Artemis to fly.

"Affirmative. We got a free pass to Egypt. Then we are going to have to struggle to get back home." Coin informed him as Rico listened to the radio.

At the moment they were keeping all planes from taking off and it sounded like they were closing the country's borders. But their focus was on containing the capital city. They were trying to limit the amount of people that learned about the alien incursion as much as possible. Because the UN and other groups would immediately start demanding a piece of the action. It was the same reason that Rico wanted to isolate themselves as far from the incident for as long as possible.

Rico nodded and then thought of something. "Maybe not." Rico pulled out his phone and reconsidered for a moment before sighing. He then put his phone away. "We can just alert the GCPD that we are flying back in once we get close. Pass off all the blame and paperwork to them. We just have to make sure that Gearbox is there with the truck when we land."

"We are not going to be able to keep the plane are we?" Artemis asked with a sigh.

"What? Did you already take a liking to it?" Rico asked as he glanced back at the passengers.

"I suppose… in a way." Artemis nodded. "Although, I would prefer to keep the lost Amazon artifacts as well."

Rico chuckled and nodded. "I know what you mean."

Black Beetle walked through the mothership with a scowl. He arrived and kneeled. "I failed you. I am not worthy."

"You did not fail me. You found an opponent that was troublesome. We thought we knew where all of them were. But you have opened our eyes. But now we have a new issue. We have left evidence of our incursion into the planet." The voice hidden behind the thin sheet answered.

"I know. If you will permit me. I can take a bomb down and destroy the country and all evidence of our involvement." Black Beetle suggested, hoping he would run into Honey Badger again. Maybe he would even get a rematch.

There were a few minutes of silence as the person behind the thin sheet seemed to think before ultimately answering. "No, let them figure it out. Reach out to this world's government. They may be divided but they would unify against an 'invading' force. Unless we explain our reason."

Black Beetle seemed to think about it before nodding. "What lie should I tell the meat of this planet?"

"We will not lie. Inform them that we came to retrieve ancient technology that was sent here long ago. I will explain the details personally if they wish to invite me to the surface of their planet to negotiate." The voice informed Black Beetle.

"My lady! But what about-"

"Calm yourself Black Beetle. Must I remind you that we did not come here to conquer but to retrieve the mistakes of my ancestors. I am sure this will catch even the Green Lantern Corps attention, especially since this planet has multiple Green Lanterns. But at the end of the day, I was trying to redeem my people." The woman answered with a chuckle.

Black Beetle growled before bowing his head again. "Your will, will be done my lady." He then stood up and walked out of the room.

The woman behind the thin veil pulled up the footage of the fight. What an interesting specimen. She almost wanted him for herself. Maybe she should see about locating them.
