Chapter 118 - What Wish Should I Make?

-----

The Hoenn Region was famous for its meteorites.

Everyone in the world knew this, and Unova was no exception.

There was a place called Meteor Falls, where remnants of meteorites were said to be scattered across the land.

It was a favorite spot for collectors, especially the legendary stone enthusiast, Steven.

He spent countless hours there, carefully inspecting stones and searching for rare finds.

"A meteor shower is truly beautiful," someone on TV remarked.

"And if you make a wish on a shooting star, they say it will come true!"

Cynthia watched the meteor shower broadcast with a soft, dreamy gaze.

The lights on the screen reflected in her eyes, making them sparkle like stars themselves.

"Sam," she said, turning to him, "have you ever seen a meteor shower in person?"

"No," Sam replied honestly.

"I really want to see one up close," Cynthia admitted, a hint of longing in her voice.

"Watching the meteor shower while having a candlelight dinner… it must be so romantic."

Even as the waiter brought her favorite dessert, Cynthia didn't speak immediately.

She just looked at Sam, her eyes shimmering with a quiet hope.

Sam reached out and gently poked her nose.

It was a small, playful gesture, but Cynthia understood perfectly what he was thinking.

"Anyway," she said, her voice brimming with excitement, "the news just said there will be a meteor shower the day after tomorrow. There's still time, we should go see it!"

"Yay!"

Cynthia practically bounced in her chair, her usual composed demeanor slipping away. S

He looked like a little girl who had just been given her favorite doll.

"Husband~" she teased.

"Kiss~" she added, leaning forward and pressing her lips to his.

Sam frowned lightly.

"There are still people around…"

But he didn't resist.

Around the restaurant, diners quietly smiled at the scene.

Their amusement only added to Cynthia's glee.

"My husband is the best!" she gushed, returning to her seat.

"We need to book a flight right now! We'll leave immediately!"

She took a small bite of the amuse-bouche the waiter had brought, savoring it while scrolling through flight options on her phone.

"Hey, you're supposed to eat first!" Sam said, watching her focus intently on her screen.

"If you don't concentrate on your meal, you'll get an upset stomach."

"I know, I know," Cynthia muttered, eyes still glued to the phone.

"But there are so few flights left… lots of people must be heading to Hoenn for the meteor shower too!"

Sam raised an eyebrow.

"Treasure hunters, maybe?"

Cynthia nodded.

"The friction between meteorites and the air generates a lot of heat. That heat can form Fire Stones, you know. Some Pokémon evolve with them. Even ordinary ones sell for 500,000 Alliance coins. For normal people, it's a quick way to make money."

Sam tilted his head, quietly observing her enthusiasm.

As a transmigrator, he already knew the science behind it, but seeing Cynthia so animated made it feel new.

"And besides Fire Stones," she continued, "collected meteorites can even be exchanged for cash at Devon Company. It's not just beauty, it's a treasure hunt too."

Sam smiled faintly. "I guess we'll have to get there early, then."

Cynthia's grin widened.

"Exactly! Meteor Falls, here we come!"

Training Pokémon was an expensive business.

Naturally, many trainers would head to Hoenn, hoping to strike luck and maybe profit along the way.

Sam watched Cynthia, a small smear of cream at the corner of her mouth, and teased, "You're looking at me like that with cream on your face?"

Cynthia glanced up, still absorbed in her phone.

"Husband, wipe it off~"

With a patient smile, Sam grabbed a tissue and gently dabbed her delicate face clean.

She put down the phone with a triumphant nod.

"Okay! Tickets are ready!" she announced, hugging Sam's arm with excitement.

"I've already booked the hotel, by the way," Sam whispered.

"The bed… is heart-shaped?" Cynthia asked, eyes widening.

Sam choked slightly on his steak, internally panicking.

'Heart-shaped bed? Heart unstable! Heart unstable!'

But outwardly, he nodded smoothly.

"Yes… and make sure to bring all the guys."

Cynthia paused.

"What guys?"

Sam's expression turned mock-serious.

"Who else could it be?"

Cynthia's face softened as realization dawned.

She lightly tapped Sam's forehead with her fingers.

"Don't worry~ I'll always keep you safe, right by my side."

Sam's lips curved into a genuine smile.

"What a good wife… kiss?"

She leaned in and pressed her lips to his.

Over the past few months, under Sam's careful guidance, Cynthia had grown more sensible and more confident, and it showed in small, intimate ways like this.

After they finished eating, they still had some time before their flight.

But Cynthia, eager to see the meteor shower, pulled Sam along to the airport in Icirrus City.

Soon, they were waiting to board, brimming with excitement.

In no time, they were on the plane, heading for Hoenn, the anticipation almost tangible.

They arrived in Slateport City, where Sam had reserved the most exclusive rooftop hotel restaurant, ensuring Cynthia could watch the meteor shower in comfort.

Time seemed to fly as they settled in.

Sober red wine, soft candlelight, and the quiet hum of the city below set the mood.

The waiter left, and the two nestled close together, waiting for the celestial show.

Cynthia leaned her head on Sam's shoulder and whispered, "What wish do you think I'll make when I see the meteor?"

"Whatever you want," Sam murmured, resting his head lightly on hers, chin brushing her hair, "just promise me one thing."

"Okay…" Cynthia's voice was delicate.

"I thought of so many wishes… but what if the meteor doesn't agree?"

She sipped her wine, her cheeks tinged pink, eyes half-closed in anticipation.

"Don't worry," Sam said gently.

"It's a meteor shower. A shooting star fulfills a wish. Be bold."

"Yes…" Cynthia murmured, tilting her head to look at him with large, shining eyes.

"My husband is right."

Curiosity glimmered in her gaze.

"And you, husband? What will you wish for?"

Sam paused, considering.

"You're here with me. That's already enough. Life feels complete. I don't need any other wishes."

Cynthia's pale fingers tapped his forehead playfully.

"Did you eat candy? Your mouth is so sweet."

Sam laughed softly.

"Candy isn't as sweet as you… My baby is sweeter than chocolate."

They chatted quietly, hearts light, waiting for the sky to perform its long-awaited magic.

Then, a streak of light blazed across the dark canvas above.

Cynthia breathed, snuggling closer into Sam's arms.

Sam pointed at the shooting star, and together they closed their eyes, hands clasped tightly.

In silence, each made their wish.

The meteor faded, leaving a trail of light that seemed to linger, echoing the warmth and closeness of the two in that quiet moment.
