Chapter 111 - Hero of Truth

In Black and White, N had stood in this very tower.

He, too, had called upon Reshiram.

But this world wasn't just a game.

It was a mashup world, where stories and timelines overlapped.

Crimson and Ash existed here.

By that logic, so did N.

And yet… Reshiram hadn't chosen them.

It had chosen him.

Sam couldn't help but wonder why.

If a Pokémon of truth could not be honest in its own choice, then it would rather walk away.

But Reshiram's sapphire eyes stayed calm, unblinking.

The dragon radiated no impatience, no doubt.

Slowly, Sam exhaled.

His voice was quiet but steady.

"Why me?"

Reshiram lowered its head until those royal-blue eyes were level with his own.

Flames flickered along its mane as its telepathic voice filled the chamber again.

"Before you, two others came. They lived by their beliefs, and they were true. But their strength was too weak. Your strength… is far greater. And you carry a powerful aura, one that reaches even to the heavens. A Ruler of the skies rests upon you."

Cynthia's breath caught.

'Ruler of the skies…'

Her mind flashed back to that day above the clouds, when Sam had stood before the Sky High Pokémon.

"Rayquaza…" she whispered to herself.

It made sense now.

With Rayquaza's recognition, it's no wonder Sam could face Reshiram with such composure.

She realized, too, why Reshiram spoke to him as if he were an equal.

"What I seek," Reshiram continued, "is to defeat Zekrom and the hero who carries ideals. To fulfill my destiny, I must choose the strongest bearer of truth. And that… is you."

Cynthia's heartbeat steadied as she listened.

Pieces were falling into place.

Reshiram wasn't merely offering its power.

It was seeking a partner to fulfill a promise made long ago.

Sam's lips curved into a faint smile, but there was a glint of steel in his eyes.

"So if I decline you, someone else will fight Zekrom instead? Is that what you're saying?"

"That's right," Reshiram answered without hesitation.

Sam fell silent.

His thoughts flickered through everything he knew, the N of this world, the legendary hero of ideals.

Sam felt confident he could defeat N.

After all, N's team held only one true threat: Zekrom itself.

The rest of his Pokémon, while strong, were only at champion level.

But Ghetsis was another matter.

In the special episodes of the anime, the careerist had somehow won Kyurem's approval, then used the DNA Splicers to forcibly merge it with Zekrom, creating the terrifying Black Kyurem.

Could he defeat that?

The thought made Sam's jaw tighten.

It was exactly this uncertainty that forced him to be cautious.

Yet there Reshiram stood, majestic and powerful, waiting for him.

If he let this opportunity slip through his fingers, wouldn't that be an even greater loss?

He inhaled slowly, gathering his resolve.

"If I lead you to defeat Zekrom and its hero… will you leave me afterward? Or stay by my side?"

This wasn't a question born of doubt, but necessity.

He needed to know.

Defeating Zekrom, only to have Reshiram fly away afterward, would make him nothing but a pawn.

Reshiram's flames pulsed gently, and its voice rang clear in both their minds.

"As long as your truth remains the same, I will carry out your will. I will help you realize your truth. True hero of truth, are you willing to accept my destiny, and be bound with me?"

The words filled the tower like a sacred vow.

Cynthia's chest tightened.

She looked at Sam with mixed feelings.

She wanted him to accept Reshiram.

It was, after all, one of the most beautiful and noble Pokémon she had ever seen.

Yet at the same time, the thought of him being drawn into the conflict between truth and ideals made her uneasy.

Sam wasn't just a companion to her.

He was the man she intended to walk beside for the rest of her life.

The idea of losing him to a battle of gods felt like a knife between her ribs.

Her fingers curled unconsciously at her side.

'I want him to take Reshiram… but I also don't want him to risk himself.'

For a moment, it felt as though heaven and earth were at war inside her heart.

But Sam himself didn't hesitate.

Sam's eyes burned with determination.

In this chaotic world, dangers lurked around every corner.

He couldn't afford to drift aimlessly, to be swept along like a leaf in the wind.

If he wanted freedom, if he wanted to protect his truth… he had to take control.

He had to master more power.

He looked up at Reshiram, unwavering, and spoke, firmly:

"I accept."

A ripple of energy surged through the tower.

Reshiram's telepathic voice filled his mind:

"True hero… my strength will be with you."

White light exploded from Reshiram.

The majestic dragon, now towering nearly thirty meters, shimmered with a brilliance that made the entire chamber glow like daylight.

Flames licked the air, yet it felt more sacred than dangerous.

In an instant, Reshiram's massive body shimmered and compressed, turning into a radiant white stone that pulsed with energy.

Sam stretched out his hand instinctively and caught it.

At that same moment, a bond formed between Sam and Reshiram, an invisible thread of trust and power, connecting them in a way only a Pokémon and its true trainer could share.

[Item Name: Light Stone]

[Function: Inject the three divine powers to awaken Reshiram.]

"True hero… whenever you need me… I will awaken."

Sam smiled faintly, slipping the Light Stone safely into his pocket.

"I understand," he said quietly.

Cynthia's eyes widened.

She couldn't stop staring at the stone in his hand.

For a moment, she was speechless, lost in a mix of awe and disbelief.

Before they had even come to Unova, Sam had casually mentioned wanting to capture a strong Pokémon in this region.

Cynthia hadn't thought much of it at the time.

But seeing Reshiram, the legendary dragon, transformed into the glowing Light Stone, now safely in Sam's possession… it was impossible to deny.

She blinked rapidly, her mind racing.

'He… really did it. He actually got Reshiram.'

"Hey," Sam said, a teasing smile tugging at his lips.

"What's with the stare? You mesmerized by my handsomeness?"

Cynthia snapped out of her trance, cheeks flushing.

"No! That's… that's not it!"

But even she couldn't hide her excitement.

She hugged him tightly, practically bouncing with joy.

"That's not fair! Even a Legendary Pokémon… Reshiram… is mesmerized by you!"

Sam chuckled, letting her hug linger.

Deep down, he felt a surge of warmth, not just from victory, but from knowing that in this wild, unpredictable world, he was moving one step closer to living his truth.

The Light Stone pulsed faintly in his pocket, a promise of power and a bond that would shape the battles to come.

And as the glow faded, the Dragonspiral Tower returned to its quiet, ancient state, yet the air itself seemed charged with anticipation.

Sam and Reshiram, bound by truth, were ready to face whatever challenges awaited them.

Cynthia pulled back slightly, still holding onto his arm. Her eyes sparkled.

"Sam… you really did it. You… captured Reshiram."

He gave her a small, confident smile.

"We did it. Together."

For the first time in a long while, the three of them, Sam, Cynthia, and Reshiram, stood in perfect harmony.

The legend of the Dragonspiral Tower was no longer just history.

It was alive, and it was theirs.
