Chapter 2 - Chapter 1: The Beginning

I'm not entirely sure how it happened.

But what I do remember…

is that I've always been obsessed with a certain trope—

the one where a background character, a "mob," seems weak…

but turns out to be overwhelmingly strong.

I'd always wanted to live out that kind of story.

And then, some things happened—

until, eventually, I ended up in this other world.

---

I found myself being cradled by a woman.

Was this… reincarnation?

Meh. I didn't really care.

What caught my interest wasn't the fact that I was a baby—

but the fact that every living being around me was radiating some kind of aura.

Faint, pulsating waves of energy.

Strangely, the woman holding me—who looked like my new mother—

had an aura weaker than the maids in the room.

"Ahhh, Otoshi's finally awake~,"

she said sweetly, just as a bald man walked into the room and picked me up without hesitation.

Oh—before I forget,

apparently I was born into a baron's family,

and my new name is Otoshi Asusivicitien.

Huh... seems like "Otoshi" really sticks with me.

It used to be my last name. Now it's my first.

Where was I again?

Oh, right—I have an older sister.

Her name is Eta Asusivicitien, and she's five years older than me.

—Speak of the devil. There she is.

She just came into the room, all smiles and excitement.

Well, I was just born, so that makes sense.

"Mom, Dad… why isn't Oto crying?"

she asked.

Oh yeah. Right.

Babies are supposed to cry, huh?

Looking at the worried faces of my new family,

I figured I should probably do something about that.

"Oe, Oe, Oe—"

Well, a baby's gotta do what a baby's gotta do.

---

Five years passed.

My sister, now ten years old, was about to enter the Knight Academy.

The Asusivicitien family rarely produces "golden children" like her.

Well, we're not exactly a lineage of warriors, after all.

That's why my sister's birth was a big deal—

just yesterday, the entire family threw a party to celebrate her enrollment.

As for me?

Haha… as a mob character, it's my duty not to reveal my true power.

Naturally, I play my role flawlessly—

the weak younger brother, constantly overshadowed by his prodigy sibling.

Ahhh… what a beautiful trope.

"Oto! Don't trouble Mom and Dad, okay?

And don't stay out past ten at night!"

Eta scolded me with a long list of reminders.

Honestly, it was way too long.

I didn't even bother listening.

Still, as the good little brother I was pretending to be,

I just nodded and smiled sweetly.

---

After a few more minutes, my sister left the estate.

The mansion fell into a peaceful silence.

I returned to my room.

Oh, right—

Mom and Dad had also gone into the city with her for some business.

Which meant...

The entire Asusivicitien mansion was under my control.

Sure, the maids were still around,

but they weren't going to stop me from doing whatever I pleased.
