Chapter 228 - Chapter 228 Father

Blonsky was kicked flying by the Hulk and knocked unconscious. Soldiers, guns, and sonic cannons had not managed to harm the Hulk. He glared at the whole scene with an air of invincibility, and everyone retreated in terror. Just then, Betty broke free from the soldiers' grip and ran toward the Hulk.

"Betty! Get back!" Ross was terrified, but Betty ignored his warning and ran right in front of the Hulk.

"Bruce..."

The dark green pupils stared at the woman before him, and Hulk's eyes softened with a hint of tenderness. He stopped roaring and slowly walked toward her.

Suddenly, a roar filled the sky. A military attack helicopter arrived at the battlefield.

"Holy shit!"

"What is that monster!"

"Forget it, attack!"

Because of the angle, the onboard screen didn't show Betty, and the pilot, as expected, pressed the button.

Rat-tat-tat-tat!

The minigun spun rapidly, spitting out a stream of bullets.

"Cease fire!"

Ross's order came too late; the bullets were already flying. Hulk immediately stepped forward, crouched, and shielded Betty with his body. The bullets all bounced off his skin.

Roar!

The enraged Hulk ripped off a piece of a car and threw it, directly destroying the helicopter's rotor. The fuselage plummeted toward them.

"BOOM!!!"

With a massive explosion, the wreckage became a huge fireball, engulfing both Hulk and Betty.

"NO!!!!" Ross roared, sprinting forward.

But from the flames, a giant figure slowly rose.

The Hulk was unharmed. His thick arms were holding an unconscious Betty. Other than some soot on her face, she had no obvious injuries. Hulk had protected her.

Ross stopped in his tracks, staring blankly.

The Hulk bared his teeth, glaring fiercely at him, and a beast-like sound rumbled in his throat. It was a warning: Don't come any closer!

He crouched, gathered his strength for a leap, and cleared several hundred meters. After a few jumps, he vanished from sight.

......

The once-pristine university campus was now covered in black smoke and craters.

Soldiers scrambled to treat the wounded. Aside from those killed instantly, Blonsky was the most severely injured. Medics ran over with a stretcher and were shocked when they turned him onto his back. He was covered in blood, his bones all broken, but his heart was still beating.

The medics, unaware of the super-soldier serum, could only call it a medical miracle!

Ross sat on the ground, his heart heavy, his eyes vacant, lost in thought.

Betty's boyfriend walked up and stood in front of him.

Ross looked up. "You were right to call me. I need to know where they are. Betty is in great danger with him. Do you have any ideas?"

The boyfriend snorted. "Danger? Who was hurting her? I saw everything. He protected Betty. You nearly got her killed."

"Betty is my daughter! Her safety is my first priority!"

The boyfriend looked disdainful. "I can tell who's lying."

Ross opened his mouth, but was speechless.

"I don't know where they went. But I finally understand why she never mentioned you to me."

After this parting shot, the young man strode away. Ross shook his head, exasperated. "Why are Betty's boyfriends always such freaks?"

......

This incident was too big to be covered up.

Just half an hour later, the empty field was swarming with reporters and media. They set up their long guns and short cannons (cameras), interviewing soldiers and frightened students, and inspecting every trace of the scene like detectives.

The event was broadcast live. Naturally, Jason, in New York, wasn't going to miss it.

Besides the live interviews, the TV also played footage of the battle, all filmed by university students.

Jason watched several clips, his expression calm. But when the clip of the sonic cannons played, he frowned, and a bold idea formed.

Ordinary sonic cannons could strongly suppress the Hulk. So, what would happen if the target of an infrasonic wave was David, who had an upgraded superpower?

He recorded the clip, sent it to the Joker Community, and specifically @'d David.

They were already discussing the incident. After seeing Jason's video, they had the same idea.

David: Boss, I'm not sure, but I'd really like to try.

Franklin: Try? You've got guts. Even the boss couldn't beat that monster.

Harley: One person can't win, so we all fight him. There's a bunch of us, what's to be afraid of?

A-Train: Yeah, no matter how strong he is, I can run circles around him.

Christine: He'll be on our doorstep in a few days anyway. Why are you all in such a hurry to fight?

Christine's powers were auxiliary, so her way of thinking was naturally different from the offense-oriented accomplices.

When a person holds a Colt 1911, with the power to easily kill, their way of thinking slowly changes. They feel like they've become God, with the power to pass judgment. In this state of self-hypnosis, a tiny squabble is highly likely to escalate into a shooting.

If a simple pistol can do that, what about a world-changing superpower?

The debate was heated, broadly split between a war faction and a peace faction. Neither side could convince the other, so only Jason could make the final call.

Jason himself was undecided. He wanted to test his theory, but he also felt flying to Virginia to find Hulk was too much trouble.

Just then, the Daily Missions were refreshed. Jason casually opened it and gave a resigned smile.

Mission 31: [Defeat the Hulk]

[Details: The Hulk is the early-Marvel power ceiling. Although his intelligence and agility are low, his strength and stamina are high, and he's practically immortal. Please defeat the Hulk and show him the power of the Joker organization!]

[Reward: 50,000 ~ 100,000 Villain Points!]

[Friendly Tip: If you can't beat him one-on-one, ganging up is also a good choice!]

100,000 Villain Points! What a huge sum!

He is currently Level 56. If he completed the mission perfectly and got 100,000 points, he could jump two whole levels.

After a moment's hesitation, Jason decided to take the job.

Harley: Honey, what's your call?

Jason: We haven't had a big score recently, and the organization's influence is growing too slowly. I think we could take a little trip, call it a team-building outing. But it's not mandatory. Sign up if you're interested.

David: I'm definitely going.

Harley: Me too!

John: I'm free. I can go.

A-Train: I've still got a mess to clean up in LA. I'll sit this one out.

Franklin: Without new-energy suits, my power isn't much use. I'll skip it.

Christine: Not interested.

Chloe: Not going.

Stanfield: I want to, but I can't.

Franklin: Speaking of which, I haven't seen Stan in ages.

A-Train: The new guy here. I don't even know him.

Harley: Mr. Civil Servant, how's life?

Stanfield: S.H.I.E.L.D. HQ is busy rebuilding. The work is piled as high as a mountain every day.

Jason: That's great. I'll pay it another visit when it's finished.
