30Chapter 3

"This week sucks…" Benji cursed tossing his pack on his bed, "And it isn't even Wednesday yet…"

School was unsurprisingly worse, the fear that he gotten from the fight made the student body avoid him like a plague, even Mrs. Knot was uneasy around him, then he had to visit the PRT with his father to sign a NDA about Sophia's identity, he hated every moment of it, the upside is that they also signed an agreement that Alan said that was quite beneficial for him, monetary restitution, suppression of names, a swift transfer for Arcadia for the next Monday, the eighteenth.

Benji's concessions were minimal, take counseling from the Arcadia's councilor for a few months, surrendering any surplus records of the bullying, and one week's worth of community service, given the alternatives if the PRT wasn't involved or he wasn't the victim, he knew that he would have gotten to juvenile prison or worse, so he signed, three hundred thousand was a nice settlement, it would surely help things.

Benji is already planning on convincing Danny on moving out of their current house to another one in a safer location, mostly to get some distance from his hideout, then there is that their surroundings do affect their mood, as much as the house has memories, the years weren't kind to the neighborhood; that affected how they saw themselves and how others saw them, he experienced that before.

Of course Danny would argue about a college fund, Benji felt that they could spend around two hundred and fifty thousand in a house and keep the remainder for college, it is still a few years away, with some regular savings and the interest it should grow, and if Benji managed to slip some of his looted cash into it was even better, the money wouldn't do anything lying on his hideout.

Now he just have to sell the idea to Danny, a larger house with more than one bathroom would be great, a nice backyard garden, large basement, maybe a game room, he would have to try to entice the older man into the idea.

Alone in her bedroom Amy hated herself after what she did for Vicky, she knew that it wasn't healthy, she knew that Vicky was doing more than abusing any affection that she has, she hated herself for her weakness and going along with Vicky's idea, for bullying that thug, sure she believed that he deserved it, the problem is that it wasn't really an accident, one is a accident, twice is coincidence, and normally three times is enemy action, on in Vicky's case negligence, and she had twice that number in 'accidental' excessive use of force.

In her darkest hours Amy believed that Vicky did it in purpose, that she knew that she has a get out of jail card in the form of her, two counting Carol, she saw Vicky bragging to the thug of how she would get away clear out of it, it wasn't the attitude that a hero should have.

Amy could accept the more violent route if Vicky made that her usual and public tactics, but seeing how Vicky is in the dark really disillusioned her, yet she is still hopelessly craving for Vicky's love, even if just between siblings. Then there was Vicky's aura, the thug said that Vicky was using it, Amy didn't feel it, but she certainly felt more inclined to do what Vicky asked after that hug, she even went out and screwed the thug's head, just to get the praise that she knew that would come from Vicky.

"Hi there stranger…"

Purred a voice that Benji was beginning to consider familiar, 'Note to self, stop turning off passive telepathic scan.' He said to himself, turning to the side and spotting a grinning Lisa, 'Background mind noise while annoying is better than being surprised or worse.'

"Hi Lisa." He replied levelly, "Love the outfit." Lisa is wearing jeans pants, black sneakers, a powder blue shirt that he can't see that well under a dark gray light jacket.

"Thanks," she replied with a smile and a hint of a blush colored her cheeks, the inability to read him allowed her to take the compliment well, though a small part of her wonder what he was thinking in detail, still it had been a while since she could enjoy a compliment without having to read the unsaid side.

"Are you stalking me or something?" Benji asked half teasingly, "I certainly didn't remember setting a date with you."

Lisa smirked at him. "Complaining about a surprise date with a cute girl?" she teased him, she did kind of stalk him and given their last meeting/date, she picked up a few clues that she used to locate him. "Lunch and movie?" she suggests with the cutest pose that she could strike.

"And miss school?" he teased back, he was cutting class anyway, "Choices, choices…"

Lisa chuckled, content that at least he was still playful as he was then they first met in costume. "On a more serious note." Lisa said before they get too sidetracked, fishing something from her jacket's pocket. "I wanted to give you this."

In Lisa's hand a fairly simple flip style phone, nowhere near the best in market or the most recent, if anything was at least two year outdated when compared to the latest tech. "A phone?" He asked confused, deciding against actively reading the girl's mind, it kind of spoiled human interactions. "Why?"

"Well you don't reply to PMs on PHO fast enough, and if things get bad I was kind of hoping to have you on speed dial to save my tight and perky little ass." Lisa explained teasingly. "Even if you don't join the team, I think that we might be at least allies, so being able to call for help wouldn't hurt."

Benji could admit that it would be better than relying on a computer to set the meetings, "And there is nothing to do with our solo meetings?" he teased the blonde.

"Nothing whatsoever." Lisa lied through her teeth, she wanted to figure him out, those meetings help her a lot. "But I won't deny that is nice eating out with company that I can enjoy."

"Ditto." He agreed taking the offered phone.

Lisa rummages through her purse and pulls a charger and hands it to him as well, "My number is there same with Brian's," Lisa explained as he puts those away. "On the inside of the battery cover is a post-it with your number, in case you meet someone that you wish to give the number."

"Doesn't that kind of kills the purpose of it?" He asks curiously, "Isn't this supposed to be one or few times use only?"

"Unless you start calling the cops, PRT or heroes with it, they last more than a few uses." Lisa explained, "It also helps keeping different phones for different reasons, I have one that is exclusive to speaking with the boss, I am going out of a limb with you and gave you what essentially my personal number as Tats, it for undersider use only."

Another show of trust that surprised Benji, their willingness to take him into their team is surprising. "If we are doing jobs we carry phones to be disposed if used, it is a working system for us." Lisa continued her explanation. "Since you obviously don't have the time and experience on the game, it is the kind of thing that you haven't learned yet, but I saw that you have some level of professional awareness and wariness, hence picking those older phones, no internet access, no GPS, nothing that a tinker can hack, and unless they know the number they can't trace it back to us."

He nods understanding, while he learned to like his smartphone, he always preferred the older models, for music he used a MP3 and not his phone wasting batteries, and he never used the internet with the phone, especially outside, so it was pointless for him, other uses were okay, but phones are for calls, and maybe texting. "Got it." He said, "The lunch thing was just a joke or serious?"

Lisa made offer as a joke, but why not make it serious, she doesn't have anything planned for the day. "Serious, the movie is a maybe." She finally answered. "Come on Cap," she then latches on his arm "buy me some food and show me a good time."

"Nothing too fancy." Benji chuckled. "What fast food chain this time?"

"I feel like a root beer." Lisa answered after a moment. "To AW!"

"How is seducing the guy working?" Alec asked to Lisa once the blonde returned to their base.

"Well enough." Lisa responded with a shrug, "Not much experience with girls on his side, a bit uncomfortable with advances, unsure of how to act and where the line of being too forward is." She had fun teasing and flirting with Benji, with time she is pretty sure that she can get him to either fall for her or join the team, if not both, in whichever order it happens. "Still friendly enough, and he isn't a nearly omniscient ninja, as I honestly surprised him today."

"Not everyone is like you." Brian pointed out to the blonde, "And shouldn't you be worrying about that with the bank job that the boss asked for us to do for him?"

"It is tomorrow, we have time." Lisa replied, if anything she wanted to get Benji into the heist, but she knows that he won't help there. "And if comes to worse, with that phone on him we can call on him to bail us out."

"I am not sure if he would." Brian grunted, crossing his arms. "Claimed to be a hero remember, why bust us out from the cops or heroes?"

"I can't tell for sure, so at least there is a chance that he will." Lisa shrugged, without more members to help they need whatever they can scrounge. "Did you find anyone willing to work with us?"

"No." Brian answered. "The only ones that could help are those two losers Uber and Leet, and they would post the entire thing on youtube." Lisa agreed that it wasn't a good thing, but Coil wanted the heist, he wanted it badly enough to dish out a fair amount of money to see it happen.

'I hate banks.' Benji silently complained, deciding to so something other than focus on himself, he decided to pay some bills using the money that he looted, it wasn't much of a gesture anymore, the imprint of Taylor was bugging him again, which he learned to associate with the ROB forcing him to act on a checkpoint, sadly the imprint could be like how Navi from Zelda was said to be by many people on the internet, annoying, persistent and utterly irritating, so he went to the family's bank, which made the nagging imprint stop bitching.

"Everybody be cool this is a robbery!" A somewhat familiar voice loudly announced. "Just cooperate with us for fifteen minutes and you will all be going home safe and sound!" "Or don't and get chewed up!" Another familiar male voice announced.

'Aw come on…' Benji whined.

"Just bundle up on this side of the lobby and wait, as long no one does something stupid things will be okay!" Grue said firmly, Bitch's dogs herding the scared clients, Benji moves along and is on the outside of the huddle that is then covered with Grue's darkness.

"Come on Tattle." Grue urged the blonde. "We can't take too long or we will get fucked."

"You already are."

Grue cringed at the slightly muffled by familiar voice, Tattletale tenses as well. "Oh shit…" She cursed. "Cap?"

"I am irked Tattletale." Benji said using the force to give an extra oomph to his voice, ignoring the somewhat mousy girl next to him. "Irked."

"Please don't viciously maul us with your lightsabers." Regent begged, 'So much for a quick and easy job.'

"He isn't with them!" Grue exclaimed seeing sparks coursing through Benji's fingers and arching between them. "He is charging lightning!"

"You have ten seconds to leave this bank before I decide to strike." Benji informed the group. "Starting now, ten…"

"God damn it!" Grue cursed, not willing to see if his darkness would stop the blasts, and Bitch's dogs might help, but that would risk the clients and whatever possible link between them and Benji. "We are leaving!"

"Seven…" Benji counted down.

"Hurry up Bitch!" Grue commanded, "Call the dogs!" Bitch wants to protest at that, willing to fight.

"Four." Ominously came from the darkness, Tattletale grabs on Bitch's arm and shakes her head, growling angrily Bitch rushes after the others with the dogs following her.

Before the darkness faded Benji cancelled the light show, happy that they didn't called him on it, while producing menacing looking arcs was easy, firing the lightning at non-lethal power was very hard.

The clients murmur, chatter and call the cops, Benji notices that the girl around his age that was standing next to him was looking at him with rather fierce eyes.

"Yes?" he asked in his usual voice.

"I believe that we need to talk." She responded firmly. "Unlike the others here, I could find the source of the voice."

"Miss, I just stopped a robbery." Benji said in a whisper. "Why do we need to talk?"

"Because of whom I believe you are," She replied in the same way. "Your reputation doesn't match your actions, and I saw the aftermaths of that little meeting with the PRT, I want to know why they are lying about you."

Benji pinches the bridge of his nose. "Why is that important?" He asks seriously. "Haven't I earned a free pass or something for preventing a robbery?"

"Yes." She answered, "However I wish to know because I fear that it might be done with me if I screw up or stop cooperating with them."

Taking the time to look at the girl closely Benji couldn't recognize her, so he uses the telepathy, 'Ah Panacea, she is afraid that the PRT might screw her over if she screws someone's healing or she decides to stop,' the images on her mind were pretty clear, she thought about that a lot. 'Then there is her adopted family, wow that is unhealthy…and I thought that I had a poor relationship with my father, her relationship with her mother takes the cake, and this obsession with her sister isn't good either, doesn't feel natural…'

Benji makes a show of checking his watch. "Speak over lunch?" He asked, unsure if that invitation would make her stop.

"Sounds nice." Amy accepted with a nod, "We might stay here for a while, we will be questioned."

"Raincheck?" He offered hopping for a cancel.

"No need," she countered. "I will vouch for you, I am friendly with the police and PRT, so I can get us out of the way first." He sighs and nods, wondering why the hell he had to go through that.

"Was that really the ninja?" Alec asked to Lisa once they are in the clear.

"Yes, it was him, the voice was right." Answered Lisa, "Of all the banks he had to use the one that we planned to steal?"

"Why not fight him?" Rachel asked angrily, "We could have taken him."

"No we couldn't." Denied Lisa, shaking her head. "He took down Lung, even without his swords out he could still trash us, that blaster power would be enough to deal with us, your dogs would get badly hurt if hit by them."

"What do we do now?" Brian asked worried. "The boss will complain about this."

"It was beyond our ability to counter." Pulling a phone from her utility belt Lisa replied while dialing a number that she knew from memory. "I will let him know, with some luck Cap's rep might be enough for the boss to forgive us, he knows that it was him who took down Lung."

"Any hope of having him on the team now?" Brian asked making Rachel growl.

"Maybe." Lisa replied pressing the call button. "It will take some sweet talking to get him to accept that it was an accident and a job from above, but he might be willing to listen."

Scene break*

Half an hour after the foiled bank robbery Benji and Amy were at a McDonald's, in front of them a pair of trays with their orders. "So how did you meet the undersiders?" Amy asked while poking at her salad, she felt a bit naughty at ditching the planned double date that her sister demanded her to go.

"In my first official night out I stumbled on Lung planning to kill some kids." Benji answered opening his bigmac box, "I took him down, the kids were the undersiders."

"Armsmaster is the one who did it." Amy countered levelly. "Then again, the wounds inflicted on the members of the ABB and the things that I heard the freed victims that I healed say told me otherwise."

"The son of a bitch stole my credit and set me up as a villain." Benji said angrily, it was still a sore subject for him. "That incident downtown was caused by Dragon, I was going to upload the video that I took from the incident, including meeting with the bastard, she set my computer to explode and coordinated the ambush."

Amy was genuinely surprised with that, by her experience Dragon was a very kind woman, such actions weren't what she expected from her. "May I touch your hand?" Amy asked pointedly.

"Why?" He asked confused, "I don't think that we are close enough for that."

Amy flushed at that, "It will allow me to confirm your story, by seeing the damage and by telling me if you are lying." She explained, "I will even heal you, and I promise to not do anything negative towards you." Seeing that she meant it Benji nods and stands his hand to her, resting it on the table between them, Amy places her smaller hand over his and frowns.

'Amazing, the damage looks months old and not days old, no infections, no foreign matter on the wounds…' She listed the details. "What you told me about Armsmaster and Dragon is truth or lie?" She asked, "Truth please."

Benji nods. "It is true." He said.

Amy's frown deepens, the result was that it was indeed the truth. "Give me a lie."

"I am a pretty girl." Benji said with a smile, Amy chuckles at that.

"Lie,so I am not reading wrong." she sighed sadly, "So why the undersiders reacted like that?" She asked levelly. "And your apparent familiarity with them."

"I met them a couple of times afterwards, they first thought that I was a villain and wanted to thank me and then recruit me, after the issue with the PRT I told them that I would consider." Benji answered honestly. "Between how the PRT and Armsmaster acted I am unsure if they are really about heroes, I wouldn't be surprised that they are villains in disguise and some so called villain groups were forced into that role by them."

That pinged as true and Amy couldn't really counter it, from his perspective it was a reasonable suspicion, and she had met Shadow Stalker, the girl didn't act as a hero.

"While I admit being less than family friendly on my crime fighting, I plan on waging war on the gangs like the ABB, the Empire and the Merchants, god knows that the PRT doesn't seem to be doing anything about it." Benji continued somewhat annoyed. "I mean, seriously, it shouldn't be hard to bust them if they really tried, in one night I practically crippled the ABB, freed over one hundred girls that would be sold as slaves to Asian countries, then at least fifty more from whorehouses and at least twenty kept as 'entertainment' for the thugs in their meeting spots."

"I know, I treated some of those." Amy said levelly, and it was horrible to see how they were, she could heal the abuse from their bodies but not from their minds or souls. "Why you didn't continue?"

Benji sighs wearily. "Personal troubles." He answered, between the bullying issue, the meetings with Lisa, the incident with the PRT and the much needed serving of humble pie, he wasn't that enthused to continue. "I have a lot of things going on." Amy saw that it was truth, she saw the signs of emotional anguish and trouble.

"I hate to say this." Amy said seriously. "But my sister and I confronted an empire thug, you damaged the status quo, unless you start hitting the other gangs hard, they will try to claim the docks."

"Fuck." Benji hissed, he didn't consider that as seriously as he should, the undersiders even pointed it for him. "There goes my night…"

"Really?" Amy asked surprised. "I didn't mean to tell you to go out and start raiding them."

"You made me remember that there is more going on, I will try and strike the empire next." He explained. "It might delay their moving."

"Or cause them to get aggressive." She pointed out, Benji shrugs at that, he had already set things on motion, he has to see them through.

Scene break*

"The boss said that it is okay." Lisa informed the others. "Cap's rep was enough to get us in the clear, we are getting paid."

"At least that." Alec sighed from the sofa. "But our rep is going to get hit by this."

"Better a hurt rep than us getting hurt." Brian pointed out, "Seriously I don't want to be on the receiving end of his attacks, ever."

Lisa feared that what they had seen wasn't even the full extent of Benji's powers, he is a recent trigger, no more than a few months in, he laid enough hints that such conclusion was easy to reach, and knowing that made fearsome to imagine how it would be after a few more months, with more practice and experience with his powers, the most powerful capes weren't the ones with only one single power, though some could be with the proper mindset to explore said power, it was the ones with various powers that they could use in combat, most didn't consider the full scale, but Alexandria has at least four powers, some stronger than others, and she is among the strongest capes ever.

It doesn't take much effort to imagine what Benji could reach with time and experience, even if his powers 'stall' at a five rating, it would still be plenty for everything save Triumvirate or Endbringer level, and that is just for the powers that she saw him using, she is sure that he has more than what he showed them which would only add, it is the main reason why she is trying to hard to get him into the boat, he is her ticket out from Coil's grasp, and he would certainly help keeping her friends safe, while Rachel wasn't too dear, Alec was tolerated most of the times, Brian was close to a good friend, and she would rather not lose them, and muscle such as Benji would help there.

Scene break*

"While I can't say that I approve of your methods," Amy said softly, "I can understand why you do it, and find admirable that you have the fortitude to take that road."

"It is a dirty job, but someone got to do it." Benji replied, it was nice to get a hint of approval and acceptance. "I live in the outskirts of the docks, where isn't really gang territory, but I can see how bad it can get at times."

She nods understanding and sips her drink, while a heavy subject Amy was enjoying the conversation, it was rare that she met someone who didn't see her as Glory Girl's sister or Panacea the wonder healer, he haven't even asked for healing and she only offered it as a reason for him to allow her to read his biology.

"Now let's talk about you." Benji said feeling that they lingered enough on him. "My ninja powers," Amy raise an eyebrow at that 'ninja powers' thing, "I chose ninja for my cape name for a reason, and isn't only their rep as nearly magical assassins, they were also spies, infiltrators and over all intelligence gathering assets."

"And you get some ability to gather information." She said uneasily, then again so did she.

"While I can't and won't go in detail about what I saw about you, it wouldn't be fair to force you to admit things or face them," Benji stated gently, "But I can tell that it is horribly unhealthy, and I don't mean how you are nearly killing yourself over healing people, girl you need a break so badly that it isn't funny."

"I can't stop." Amy retorted weakly and tired. "Any moment that I am not healing is a moment that someone dies that I could have prevented it."

"Humanity lived millennia without you, and it will live more after you die." Benji countered levelly. "It is a wonderful power that you have, but you don't even sound like you believe in what you told me, you want to stop even if for a while, the unsaid is screaming at me, what is stopping you from taking a week or so off?"

"People need me." She replied, if she closed her eyes she could see the blurred faces of the legion of people who needed, wanted and craved being healed by her. "My family wouldn't allow it either."

"That is part of the problem." He pointed out. "Your family should be the first ones to stop you, and not scold you for stopping when you are near breaking down and doing something stupid to get a breather."

Amy chuckled bitterly, he surely could get information out of her. "Personally I would stop the free healing." Benji stated softly. "Start charging, people don't care for free things, it gets taken for granted, sure charge the rich more than the poor, pick an hour or so a day for volunteer work for those who can't afford paying, the PRT, Protectorate, and the government could surely dish out the dough to pay for your abilities, you are the equivalent of not only a hospital, but a emergency response team, a physiotherapy team and a team of specialist doctors with a wide range of individual areas, from heart to nerves and everything in between, you could charge millions per month and you would still be underselling yourself."

"My family would never approve that." Amy countered, it was ironic that any donations that were given to Amy were taken by Carol, if much just a small percentage was given to Amy, and she is already suspecting that Carol wasn't depositing the brunt of it on a saving account for her future. "And people already expect me to heal them for free."

"Change the policy, you are volunteering, they can't force that." Benji pointed out. "Say that you are beginning to think about the future, that you want to pay for college, your own house when you are old enough to move out, maybe for your future family, I am sure that you know that a surgeon specialized on heart conditions makes five or more digits per month, you do more than heart surgeries, you could get away with a fifty thousand or more per month."

"I would require approval from my mother, which I am certain that I wouldn't get it." Amy stated, Carol went out of her way to not give her anything that would make her happy. "And I am unsure if I would manage to convince others to pay me."

"A strike would drive the point home." Benji told her. "No one can force you to work, you let things go back to how it was before you triggered, if they want it badly enough they will agree to negotiate."

"And that might end with me getting smeared by the public." Amy dejectedly pointed out, she could easily see the campaign to ruin her if she tried.

"You are too defeatist." He countered, between the body language that made her look mousy and weak, her lack of care towards herself, and her thoughts that were negative, defeatist and scared, it was obvious that without a massive kick in her ass she wouldn't change her situation, "When it comes to yourself you haven't come with one idea to improve your situation that doesn't come with you doing something drastic as healing someone wrong, as I can see, you are shelled."

"Shelled?" She asks confused, she knows that she doesn't have a shell.

"It is a metaphor." He explained as she looks at herself. "A shell of inertia, you are resigned to stay as you are and refuse to move, you are at the moment a object that isn't moving, and unless someone else applies force to you, you won't move, and you can't or won't break the shell yourself, so you just stay as you are until you break."

While strange the analogy made sense to Amy, she is scared of changing the status quo, she dearly wishes for it to change but isn't brave enough to change it herself, she is afraid of how her family will react. "Your family really did a number on you." Benji sighed. "I can't say for sure if was planned or accidental, but they are almost through breaking you."

"What?" Amy asked confused, she knew that her home life wasn't healthy, but his statement wasn't what she thought that it was.

"I saw it before, a distant and strict parent that make you crave their love and approval, a sibling that gets said love and approval," Benji explained, "Pair with the powers that your family has, it is the recipe for disaster, can't tell for sure, but isn't it odd that you and your family are supposed to be immune to your sister's aura? Effects like that doesn't discriminate family, unless you have a power that nulls it, and I don't think that you can build tolerance either."

It was Amy's darkest hour fears being spoken by a stranger, at what she considered her weakest she doubted Vicky's love, of her love for Vicky, that Vicky's sister actions were an act to keep her craving to belong more.

"Jesus…" Benji murmured as something clicks on his mind. "You are like an wife abused by her husband…always making excuses for his violent moods, always coming back for more when he begs for forgiveness, melting with a kind act or word…."

Amy's mouth goes slack at that, she closes her mouth and opens it again trying to say something, to counter his argument, but she couldn't, she had treated abused wives in the past, she heard all the excuses that they gave, how they tried to claim that it wasn't their husbands' fault, that they deserved it, that they were really loved by them.

And thinking back about the most recent incident of Vicky's carelessness Amy could see the parallel there, she was angry at Vicky, mad at her carelessness, she was going to let Vicky live with the consequences, then Vicky begged her to heal the thug, hugged her, said thug had complained about Vicky's aura, back then she dismissed the issue as Vicky claimed that she was only hugging her sister, and her stance changed, she went along and healed the thug, scared and bullied the thug for information.

Vicky -as far as Amy knew- had little control over her aura, 'But what if that was a lie?' Amy darkly mused, 'What if she has better control than I am told, that she blasts me with her aura to get me to do what she wants? To get mom and dad to do what she wants? She certainly isn't shy about getting what she wants.'

Amy then remembers the cause of her being in the bank when the undersiders attacked and she met Benji, she was withdrawing money from her personal account to pay for lunch in the double date that Vicky forced her to accept, it was another thing that Vicky did a lot, push down Amy's throat the choices that she makes, as if Amy wasn't capable of making good choices with boys.

'Oh god…' Amy realized in horror, seeing the pattern of dates that Vicky picked for her. 'My sister is a gold digger…' Dean was rich, all the other boys that Vicky picked for Amy were rich, even the ones that Vicky dated when no longer seeing Dean were rich. 'Am I being whored out? I am sure that many would pay to date Panacea, maybe even try and get some body tuning during it…'

Amy then turns to Benji who was silently waiting her to say something, letting her come to terms about what he told her. "Maybe you are right." She finally said, "But maybe you are wrong, can you find out?"

"I would need access to your family," He answered levelly, "and are you sure that you want to know?"

Closing her eyes Amy goes through the list of things that she craved to know, things that she knew that were kept from her. "Yes." She said pulling a pen from her purse, tearing down a piece of the paper cover of her tray and writing down on the white backside of it.

She hands it to Benji who reads it, on top is a cell phone number, "My personal phone." Amy explained, "Followed by my address and a list of things that I would like you to learn the answers for me, if possible with evidence, if not, it is okay. I am putting a lot of trust on you, while most of my information isn't that hard to get,"

"You are trusting me to invade your family's privacy and not harm them." Benji said with a understanding nod, folding the paper and putting it on his breast pocket. "Might take a little while."

"I can wait a little longer." She replied, she then reaches for his hand, gesturing him to take it, he does.

Benji's sight goes blurry instantly, his telepathy telling him what she did, he takes off his glasses and blinks a couple of times, his vision clear and perfect. "An advance for it." Amy explained, "Your other wounds are also healed, when I get your report I can improve your biology a bit, saving you a few months of training, is it good enough of a deal?"

"I would have done it for the sight correction alone." Benji replied carefully folding his glasses and pocketing them, not needing contacts or glasses were a major boon in and by itself. "Company." He said spotting a figure that became familiar to him through the conversation. "GG is here."

Benji almost snorted at the mental reply that he got, "Play along with me." Amy instructed, "You are my date, it will give us a cover for when you have to call me." He nods and gets ready to deal with a girl that personifies the worse of the 'flying brick' archetype, and not by powers, but by subtlety.

Scene break*

It was good fortune that Vicky was a slave for PR, as she didn't cause a scene, at least much of it, being blasted by her aura wasn't pleasant, Benji learned that he could minimize its effects to just being aware of it, and he saw how it affected Amy, the poor girl was like a junkie to the stuff, still Amy acted well, gave Benji a peck in the cheek and whispered to him, "At least for me you are still a hero."

It made him feel great and did get a blush out of him, which sold the image of being her date, and she did surprise him with it, the idea that he read from her was just a kiss to sell the image, the hero thing was a spontaneous thing. What bugged Benji was Victoria's mind.

Benji saw a lot of things on the girl's mind, a dominating streak mile wide over Amy, she hated him instantly, she blamed him for Amy not going to the date that she arranged, that Amy was having a good time without her being there to direct it, the thought of 'Amy being hers' was dominant, it wasn't even about being her sister, Victoria saw Amy as a possession, similarly to a doll, she was given to her, she was hers.

And that line of thought was actually encouraged by their mother, Carol Dallon, in a wicked way Victoria does love Amy, it was possessive and sick, it was like an abusive husband at his worse, and Victoria was getting some on the side by the guys that she introduces Amy to, mostly money or pricy gifts, maybe sex at times when she feels lusty, or just dumping the guys that she slept with to Amy when she is back to Dean/Gallant.

With a sigh Benji takes the bus that will take him to his house, it is time for the Captain Ninja come out to play, school would let out soon and he knew where to find some empire 88 thugs to squeeze information from.

Scene break*

Might as well add some notes here, based on what I read, the general reaction to Amy's treatment, and in particular that first Glory Girl interlude, Vicky's and Amy's relationship is abusive, while there is no physical hitting there is emotional, and I particularly believe that Vicky knowingly uses her aura on Amy to get what she wants, and will lie to herself and others about not using it.

Before the aura laced hug Amy was going to let Vicky suffer for her carelessness, it was the sixth time, then after it Amy not only agreed to heal the guy, but torture the guy herself and help Vicky with it for information, something that moments before she was against.

So in this story I am taking the darkest road with the Dallon family relationship with Amy, the more I read about Carol the more fucked up she is, no therapy, no counciling, taking losing both Vicky and Amy to admit -or come to care- that Amy was her daughter, I find hard to sympathize with her.

Now on Vicky, reading on her focused interlude, the bank incident and aftermath, she comes to extremely vain and a gold digger, she scolded Amy for wanting to pay for herself in a date that she didn't want to go in the first place, that Vicky herself selected a rich guy for Amy and that Amy should leech out of him. So I also have little sympathy towards her.

Given this story particular route, Amy did notice that things aren't well in her family and has suspicions about Carol and Vicky, but she is too afraid to find by herself or to act out. Hence comparing her to an abused wife, it isn't nice or pretty seeing a woman like that, refusing to leave because she loves or 'loves' the aggressor.

The next part will come in the morning, read when I wake up, sometime around 10 AM or so here, further parts of this chapter will be posted randomly through the day tomorrow.

Looking at himself in the mirror Benji takes out the hidden pistol and leave it behind, he could use ones captured if he felt the need, his other powers make up for the loss of firepower, "Might need to change the colors later." He mused at the dark color scheme, then consider the phone that he was given by Lisa, toying with the slim device he wonders if he should take it or not, if his bridges were burned with them, setting the phone on vibrate he puts it in one of his chest rig pockets.

He grabs his visor/glasses and puts them on, focusing on the usual after school hang out spot for the Winslow empire thugs he scouts the nearby area for a good teleport spot, finding it he checks for cameras, windows and other little inconveniences of modern world, "Time to crack some skulls." finding none he teleports away.

Hannah couldn't stand looking at her long time coworker, she hated what he forced them to do, especially after seeing the video that Dragon seized from Captain Ninja, she saw a somewhat young and new hero that had the heart in the right place, only needing guidance to step away from the line that he is toeing she saw that he could change the damage levels of his blades, the few sentences by the new cape made clear for her that the new cape suffered a loss of some kind to gang violence, and the ABB was among the worse ones, dabbling with kidnapping and slavery, which would explain such an aggressive approach to them.

Part of her approved the methods, the number of freed victims was telling, most women aging between twelve to thirty five, not counting the ones that didn't visit an hospital afterwards, the amount of drugs and arms destroyed was also large, Hannah knew that the PRT didn't have a bust that matched those marks in years, all that they did was keep the status quo, which Captain Ninja broke.

And his reward was being criminalized, 'They drafted Shadow Stalker, why not give him the chance?' She complained to herself, 'He actually sounded nice when interacting with the undersiders, if he is under eighteen he would be a great addition to the wards, better than Dennis, at least Captain Ninja seems to know when to joke.'

The protectorate's break room door slides open, Assault peeks inside. "The ninja guy is active!" Assault exclaimed. "Piggot wants us to deal with it!"

"What happened?" Hannah asked bolting to her feet, grabbing her scarf and running towards the door.

"He is killing empire thugs in droves!" Assault answered running as well. "They are showing it trying to gain PR as victims of a madman! They are also sending their capes there! They are plan on capitalize on this!"

"And we gave them the means by villainizing Captain Ninja." Hannah said bitterly, "Yet he kept his fight against the gangs."

"Which means that he is healed from Dragon's little trap." Assault pointed out. "Or his pain threshold is up there, one way or another, the guy is mowing them those with those lightsabers of his! I wish that I could score one!"

Hannah smiled a bit at that, so would she, what person never once wished for such iconic blade.

Scene break*

With a twist of his wrist and a sharp jerk from his sword Benji blocked the incoming bullet without breaking stride, it was becoming easier and easier to do so, a follow up shot is likewise blocked and the thug firing at him is becoming more and more panicked, the last living one in that one warehouse, calmly Benji keeps walking towards said thug, a third bullet is blocked and the pistol slide locks in place, the gun empty.

"No…" The thug cried throwing the empty gun at Benji, who smacks it away with his left blade, "I will go straight! I will marry a nigger! Just don't kill me!"

Benji ignores the pleas, it is obvious that he won't, now in range he strikes with both blades horizontally, cutting the thug into three parts, the decapitated head rolling off after hitting the ground.

Extinguishing the blades before sheathing, Benji then reaches into the rightmost pocket of his chest rig and pulls a ten inches tall by two wide and one inch thick tech looking device, a crude and basic thermal detonator, barely stronger than a one hundred kilos of TNT, pressing the trigger button breaking the plastic safety, he then slides it down activating the explosive, and then he tosses it over his shoulder towards the center of the warehouse.

Benji leaves the warehouse and races away, mentally counting the seconds before the blast, clearing the distance from the blast with three seconds to spare, he saw cars approaching in the distance, large ones, the detonator goes off sending the warehouse sky high, his telepathy let him know that those were Empire 88 reinforcements, he runs towards the convoy.

At some distance he could hear the sounds of some sort of turbines, 'PRT.' He concluded while drawing his swords and igniting them, the lead driver is confused and ends flooring the gas, Benji grins and enhances his own speed, then he jumps adding just enough spin to somersault over the car, the two energy blades slicing the engine block, chassis, windshields, passengers and seats with no difficulty, inside the car sitting on the middle of the backseat Rune lost control of her bladder when realizing that one foot 'off' in either direction would end with her being like the others, split nearly in the middle by the swords, and when the scent of burnt human flesh hits her she vomits.

Benji lands neatly and using the force jumps again, this time landing on the roof of the third car in the row, several strikes downwards before jumping again kill or cripple the passengers in that car, from there he lands in the top of the nearest lamppost and into the roof of the closest warehouse, he then runs off.

The aircraft is still approaching, Benji could feel it closing the distance, jumping between roofs he twists midair with his telekinesis and launches both blades towards the VTOL, he grins as it barely managed to get out of the way of his tenchi style and got the left side main turbine sliced off by his benihime style.

He lands in a run, the lightsabers fly over his head and then change directions flying towards him, Benji catches the blades without breaking stride, extinguishing them before leaping to another roof.

"Say whatever you want about him." Assault said with a wry tone hanging for dear life to the safety straps. "Ninja boy makes the jedi and sith look like fucking pussies."

"We won't catch him with this bird." The pilot called from the cockpit, "I am barely able to get her to land without crashing, if one of you capes have a power that helps with this I would like help!"

"Lost visual from the target!" the navigator announced. "Went behind a warehouse!"

"We lost this." Miss Militia sighed tiredly, she was conflicted with issue. "If he follows his past method he should be raiding more Empire locations today."

"A chance for a do over?" Assault asked curiously. "If we get there in time?"

"Maybe." Responded Miss Militia, "If he decides on taking longer than fifteen minutes in a location, he doesn't have the same level of surprise this time, I don't think that he will stop to loot today."

"Unless it is a big payday." Assault countered. "A solo cape needs resources, those swords can't be cheap to build or maintain, add that explosive thingy, he needs to buy stuff to build those, he won't turn down money, whatever he kept from the ABB won't last that long, we find the suppliers, we find him."

"If we go after them, if we hit the suppliers that the villains use they won't be happy." Miss Militia pointed out. "More crimes to steal parts and tech."

Scene break*

Benji sits down in his chair in his hideout, still clad in his Captain Ninja gear, just with the mask, glasses and hat off, he places on the desk in front of him a cold large bottle of orange flavored Gatorade and tosses his headgear next to it, his heart is still racing from the fight, he leans back in the chair and take deep and long breaths, using one of the many meditation techniques available for him.

He had barely began slowing his heart rate when a vibration on his chest send it spiking back up, startled he jumps, however he falls backwards with his chair, somehow managing to turn the fall into a roll and after two backwards roll he lands in a crouch, "What the fuck?!" He exclaimed trying to figure what was buzzing on him, some frantic patting, prodding and poking later reveals the guilty part, the undersider phone.

"What?" Benji growled annoyed, still on his batman voice.

"Bad time?" Lisa asked a bit timidly. "I thought that you were in the clear."

"I am between hits." Benji responded. "Is this important tats?"

"A bit, I mean I wanted to call and ask about that bank incident," Lisa explained. "Then I saw the news and saw you live killing empire gangsters like a man reaping through a field."

"It was live? How?" He asked confused, he genuinely had no idea that he was being recorded while killing.

"Apparently Kaiser had or has a security system that he links the feed to the internet," Lisa explained. "It was first shown as a live broadcast in the internet and then the TV stations picked up and showed it as well, the Empire wanted to show you as a madman, kind of succeeded as well, they sent their capes to try and stop you, but you went and attacked their convoy, Rune barely survived in that first car, two of their minor capes got killed in the second car that you attacked, so they took two major PR hits, and your rep got boosted."

"And you and the others don't want me anywhere near you." Benji stated.

"No way!" Lisa countered. "We want still want you in! Well except Bitch and she acts like her name a lot, having you with us will boost our rep like crazy and will heal the bit that we got today."

"Still considering it." Benji announced, pinching the bridge of his nose.

"Okay." Lisa replied levelly, then she adds sounding relieved. "Glad to hear that you are okay, try not get yourself killed."

"Will do." He responded, it was few but at least he had people worried about him, which was nice. "And thanks for the concern."

"You are welcome." She replied.

Scene break*

"Jesus…that guy is brutal…" Aegis commented as they watch the recordings of Captain Ninja's attacks. "How many dead in total?"

"Between five locations two hundred and twenty seven, including reinforcements." Miss Militia answered, the only somewhat positive thing after the fiasco that Armsmaster caused was that she was selected to lead the local chapter of the Protectorate and Armsmaster was demoted. "Three badly wounded, we aren't counting those who weren't hit by him, the wounded only survived because they got glancing blows while inside a car, with him outside."

"And he claims to be a hero?" Vista asked in horror, "Heroes doesn't kill."

"Well if given orders or to save someone we do." Clockblocker pointed out. "Still never like that."

"He believes in a more aggressive stance against crime is needed, especially on organized crime such as the local gangs," Miss Militia explained levelly. "Our thinkers believe that he lost family to one or more gangs, likely a sexual crime as well, as his stance on rapists is very, very dramatic."

"Worse than killing?" Vista asked confused, while a experienced hero and the longest active ward in Brockton Bay she couldn't imagine what could be worse than death.

"Yes." Miss Militia answered. "Compared to what he did to the rapists death is a mercy, the rapists were castrated" All males in the Ward's briefing room cringe at that, "with those energy swords," "Lightsabers!" Clockblocker exclaimed, which earns him a glare from the older hero. "And had their other limbs chopped off, they only survived because the blades burn the wounds shut."

Vista gapes as that. "That is part of why the thinkers believe that he suffered a loss by the gangs and maybe was victimized himself, if not herself," Miss Militia continued.

"Wait herself?" Gallant asked confused.

"A theory is that Captain Ninja is a female disguised as male to hide her identity, it isn't considered the most likely, but it should still be brought up." Miss Militia explained levelly, she honestly hoped that it wasn't the true cause though; she wouldn't wish rape on her worse enemy.

"And his capabilities are?" Kid Win asked. "I mean the lightsabers might be tinker tech, but he doesn't fight like a tinker."

"At the moment Captain Ninja has mover three, blaster five, shaker two, tinker two or three depending if he is limited to those swords or not," The older hero explained, "there is also a tentative thinker rating, as he always manage to get information from the gangs, escape and there is these bullet blocks, we don't know if that is because of a thinker ability or mover."

"One way or another he is a tough cookie." Clockblocker commented. "A fucking jedi package, I never knew that there was something like that."

Aegis chuckled bitterly. "Given how powers are it isn't that surprising that sooner or later someone would get a grab bag powerset that matches the jedi, the thinker is a precog ability?"

"The similarity with the fictional jedi is the source of the possible thinker rating," Miss Militia confirmed. "Unless he volunteers the info we won't know for sure unless he does some really dramatic act with precognition, and yes, be aware that there could also be a master ability on the mix, the jedi mind trick, so far we saw no evidence of it, but again we have no idea of what his powers are."

"Wonderful…" Kid Win whined. "Why couldn't that guy be a ward?"

'Because Armsmaster fucked up badly.' Miss Militia said in the privacy of her mind, she notices that Gallant noticed the emotional shift, but voiced nothing. "Because we wouldn't let him operate as he wants to." She said on loud. "You know the rules that we have to follow, the restrictions and so on, he could be worse than Shadow Stalker was, or he could have mellowed out, we don't know, and is very unlikely that he will join."

Vista wasn't sure if she wanted him on the team, while it would be nice having someone that powerful on their side, she didn't want another Shadow Stalker, the original was bad enough. "What did he gain from this beyond a massive bad rep?" Gallant asked seriously. "And of course cripple the Empire and ruin their merchandise and gear."

"While we have no real way of knowing for sure," Miss Militia answered seriously. "We believe, based on the reaction of the Empire, that a couple of those locations, the ones that he lingered longer and left with bags on his back, housed large amounts of money that were likely in a easy to transport state, hence the bags, what he couldn't carry he destroyed, costing the Empire a minimal several thousand dollars up to somewhere a million or two in cash alone, add property damage and the number gets even higher."

Clockblocker let out a impressed whistle. "That is a lot of dough," he commented. "Why take it?"

"If the guy is a tinker he will need to buy parts to build stuff." Kid Win pointed out. "Those explosives were custom made, not anything that I saw before and definitely tinker tech."

"And not made by Bakuda, it doesn't have her signature style." Miss Militia added, "So he bought from a unknown tinker or made them himself, we have no evidence to match to anything just yet."

"So his next outing might be even worse." Aegis said concerned. "His first one didn't have explosions but fires that were started locally, now he has high grade compact explosives, what next? A ray gun?"

"And you just jinxed us." Clockblocker pointed out wryly. "That is the kind of thinking that causes bad shit to happen."

"Language." Miss Militia chided him mildly, inwardly she agreed on that. "If he does come up with a ranged energy weapon the tinker rating will be made permanent and likely increased. Remember, if you cross him, flee and call backup, while he might not start an attack, we fear that he will attack if provoked and what level of force he will use we don't know, so don't take any chances."

Scene break*

Benji stares at the pile of contents of duffel bags, backpacks, suitcases and even one small crate, which were filled with the money that he seized from the Empire 88, he had taken them to a secondary location in town to remove the money from them into secure containers, a footlocker that he purchased at the military surplus store, it was filled with money, the wads were just carelessly tossed in, organizing them would reduce the space, but still it was a lot of money.

"Thank god that I stole those money counting machines from the ABB." He muttered, he has no idea of how much money was there, but was certainly a lot and he would need to separated, the bills per denomination, stack them together and tie them together, he knew that he could have gotten more money if he had taken the time to loot all the places, but he just took the money that was centralized, either in the safes or in two cases, waiting for transport in bags, he teleported as much as he could out when he could, yet he knew that a lot was left behind.

"And the worse part is that I really can't use it openly." He sighed shutting the trunk and floating it to where his other money trunk was located, in small amounts he could sneak in some of the stolen money into his civilian life, Uber and L33t were his main dumping ground for stolen money, but even them were limited, too much and they would begin to get suspicious of him, he needs a fencer or other contacts.

God knows that was getting hard to build things with the parts that he has access to, the demolition grade generation two thermal detonator were the most that he could build with general, over the counter parts, with few illegal ones, and he barely had enough material for the ten that he built, five of which were already used.

He wanted to build a basic general purpose droid to guard the hideout, but the over the counter parts wouldn't do for the most sensitive bits, then there are the power source, sensors and a lot of systems that he can't get parts in the local home depot and radio shack, and even customizing parts from there didn't help much.

Benji was barely able to make the parts for the training drones, and they were twice the size that they should be just to be able to function with that he has. 'I need a secure location to set shop, to manufacture whatever I can to build my gear.' Once again he had the idea, he sits on his chair and ponders on how to get that.

Reaching into one of the old office desk's drawers, unlocking and opening it with a minor application of telekinesis, he pulls a wad of bills. "Let's see if I can built a positronic computer." He said to himself, "If I program the thing right I might be able to hack into databases and buy myself a secure location. I hope that Gucky's ancient computing engineering works with this tech…"

Scene break*

From what I read, Rune didn't seem to be used to killing and gruesome deaths, and Kaiser likely kept his less psychotic younger capes away from the most brutal crimes, hence her reaction. Especially when you consider Tattletale/Lisa's explanation of how the cape system works and is essentially playing cops and robbers for most capes.

For me Rune strikes me like one of those who play the game, with a dose of racism, but it is still a game for her, with no real consequences that she appreciated, 'oh some thugs got killed or something, it is okay i never met them, so i get angry and cause some trouble.'

So I made this her first taste of the cape world without the safe 'game' and she saw how dangerous it is when people doesnt play nice.
