4Chapter 6
Aleister returned his water bottle to his bag, he'd been running around the safe areas of Brockton Bay for half an a hour now. A frown on his face.
He was faster, stronger, had more stamina... Yet he knew it wasn't enough. He could only push himself so far with just human limits, any basic Brute could crush him into a pretzel.
Glory Girl could snap him over her knees, Armsmaster versatility and armor outmatched anything Aleister could bring to the table, Hookwolf would tear him apart, and Lung... Lung was just a no. The ABB leader may be behind bars for now, but Aleister didn't believe it'd last long.
Even the Merchants were dangerous, Aleister would be crushed with ease under one of Squealer's vehicles or Mush's giant form. He needed... Something, a trump card. But what?
A Servant? As much as Aleister wanted one, he didn't have any Command Seals to enforce loyalty, and he'd have to rely on feeding the Servant souls in order to supply them mana, his own supplies simply weren't large enough to fully support a Servant.
A Mystic Code? What could he create that'd give him an advantage? Something that created a force-field around him.
Power armor? Possibly. It may take a few days to prepare, but with his alchemy he could easily make the supplies to create a basic power armor.
He got off the bench and began running again, ideas whirling about his mind.
Parameters increased.
Physical - 13%
Decided to give some ideas for things Aleister could do to get power, each comes with some risks though. People are going to take someone in power armor very seriously, Servants can be hard to control depending on who you summon, and if people think he has a force-field they'll hit a lot harder.
"Match over!". The voice of a gym staff shouted, Aleister freezing his fist that was about to slam into his opponents head. "Crowley, a word".
Aleister frowned, getting out of the arena and walking over to the staff.
"You're being to brutal, you ether need to hold back or find people on your level". The staff spoke, and as much as he disliked being told what to do, Aleister had to agree.
"I'll... Keep note of that sir". Aleister gave a nod and began walking away. He was on a level to high for ordinary people to fight, he'd need to ether find people on his level, or find some other way to increase his fighting ability.
He could start targeting Merchants, find small groups and beat them down. It'd let him start building a reputation as a vigilante, something that was both good and bad.
The PRT hated vigilantes, especially ones that proved themselves more effective then them. He'd heard tales of how vigilantes were often painted as small time villains and often forced into joining the PRT. So while it'd let him build a reputation as someone on the side of the law, it'd also draw the PRT's attention.
He'd have to think, it was an interesting idea but not one he was to attached to.
Skills increased.
- Combat 14%
Aleister's right hand glowed with green circuits as he brought his fist down onto a brick, wincing even as it shattered under the force. Reinforcement was a useful, if frustrating to use spell.
To much mana and he risked exploding whatever he was reinforcing, to little and it wouldn't work. He hadn't even tried doing something more delicate like reinforcing his eyes to see better, just sticking to reinforcing his body and items.
He grabbed a metal pipe he'd managed to find in the trash a few hours ago, focusing on his circuits. He winced at the heat, but grinned when he saw the pipe covered in green circuit patterns.
Giving it a few practice swings, he grabbed another brick (It was surprisingly easy to find abandoned bricks, and he could get away with buying them rather easily. An excuse of trying to build something in his garden was easily accepted). He placed it on top of an old wooden table he'd also found in the trash, looking like it was on its last legs. It was better it get destroyed then him risking damaging his floor.
Aleister brought the reinforced pipe down, easily smashing through both the brick and table. He smiled for a few moments... Before realizing he'd now have to clean this up.
Spell improved.
- Reinforcement (Reinforces an area of the body, making it tougher, faster and stronger. No longer risks damaging the body when used).
Aleister carefully bent the metal using a mix of alchemy and a hammer to shift its shape, twisting it into a certain shape. Once that was in an acceptable state, he began editing both ends, one ending in a key-like shape, and the other an area to put rope through.
Aleister wasn't sure this Mystic Code would work, he'd never created one before after all. He raised it, and channeled mana into it. He looked over his hands with a frown, flickers of light were appearing around his body, but not invisible like he had hoped.
He sighed, a failure. He moved to put the key away, but accidentally tripped and slammed into the floor, not hurt at all.
"What the...?". Aleister stood up, frowning before his eyes traveled to the key, had he... Accidentally created a barrier while trying to create a form of invisibility? The light around him forming into a barrier? "What a happy accident".
It wasn't what he was aiming for, but he'd take it.
Mystic Code created.
- Barrier Key.
By using mana from the user, creates an invisible barrier around them. Its not very strong, but it can weaken some blows.
So getting an invisibility mystic code failed, but at least it failed in such a way it created a barrier mystic code instead.
Finding one of Squealers workshops was pathetically easy, the amount of graffiti related to the Merchants and the "Squealer's Garage" spray painted onto of it was rather... Obvious. Aleister rolled his head, how the hell hadn't the PRT dealt with this? She was announcing her location to the entire world.
He tugged on the itchy clothing he was wearing, disguising himself as a Merchant seemed like a good idea at the time, but he hadn't realized just how itchy the damn clothing was. At least it was working perfectly, he gave a nod to a clearly high Merchant as he walked onto the workshop.
It was a mess, various vehicle parts thrown about, dozens of guns and... Was that a grenade launcher? Probably saved for Brutes. He glanced around, it was empty save a few Merchants wandering about, no Squealer. He wasn't sure what he'd do even if the Merchant Tinker was here, kill her? No, that'd only send Skidmark into a rage, it was better to crush them all at once.
He pushed down the temptation to steal one of the weapons, even as idiotic as the Merchants were, they'd question the strangely clean and coherent guy taking the grenade launcher. It was better to look into what was being worked on.
The only vehicle here was a massive mad max style abomination, dozens of weapons seemingly welded onto it like a child's art project. A massive spiked battering ram was on the front with blood stains across it, a machine gun was attached to the back, and missile launchers on each side of it. He wasn't sure if there was anything else he couldn't see, but it at least gave him a rough idea what he'd have to deal with.
He could try sabotaging it, but wasn't there something about Tinkers knowing exactly how their creations worked? If something was altered, Squealer may be able to tell. He cursed his lack of parahuman powers, despite various attempts, lots of things were still unknown about how powers worked.
Aleister walked out of the warehouse, he had a location scouted, but he was also running out of time. Only four days till the Merchants would try something with his family.
Okay we got some stuff here, Aleister planning things and scouting. But wanted to ask people, since it seems like we're going with a Cyber-Mage for Aleister's cape identity, what do you guys want for his cape name?
Destroy the Merchants (Rare).
- Defeat the Merchants within a Week (Ultra), four days left.
