Chapter 3 - Chapter 3 Questioning the Heart

Chapter 3

"Don't shoot!"

At the same time, Aunt May's voice rang out.

But it was too late.

The Vulture had already fallen in a pool of blood.

At that moment, images of Urich and Uncle Ben's gruesome deaths flashed through Peter's mind.

He knew more than Aunt May did.

He knew that Uncle Ben wasn't beaten, had his legs broken, and left in an abandoned factory to be torn apart by wild dogs because he offended a factory owner.

Instead, it was that morally ugly factory owner who hired the Green Goblin. The Green Goblin took Uncle Ben to the abandoned factory, and then, this Vulture, with his sharp fangs, tore flesh from Uncle Ben's body, bite by bite, and devoured him alive!

So when he found Uncle Ben's body, all that remained was a blood-soaked skeleton and an intact head left for identification!

This kind of hatred, this kind of hatred... how could he possibly endure it?!!

"You killed him?"

"You actually shot an unarmed person?"

"Who do you think you are?"

"Do you think you're above the law?"

Aunt May looked at Peter in disbelief, hurling questions at him.

Peter, having regained control of his body, faced Aunt May's questions and her gaze, momentarily at a loss for words.

"But he was going to kill you..." he mumbled.

"Kill me? Yes, so you want me to thank you for that? Is that what you want?" Aunt May seemed aggressive at that moment.

Peter looked at Aunt May in a daze, saying nothing, unsure of what to say.

Aunt May, as if seeing his eyes through his black goggles, froze for a moment, and the words she was about to say didn't come out.

She took a deep breath, turned away, and said somewhat desolately, "Child, I want to tell you something. In this era, people like us are nothing but weeds... If everyone's actions have no rules, then we truly are nothing."

"We shouldn't live in a world where people kill each other like animals!"

Peter fell silent again.

He could understand Aunt May.

She, Uncle Ben, and the past him were all just humble members of this dark era.

But she and Uncle Ben, despite their humble status, had always done what they believed they had to do.

They stood against despicable entrepreneurs who deliberately withheld wages and against ugly drug merchants who intentionally raised medicine prices.

They were like fireflies, trying to use their faint light to dispel the darkness of this era.

But what was the result?

Uncle Ben was taken by the Green Goblin and devoured alive by the Vulture.

Aunt May nearly met with disaster!

Even he himself had been attacked by the Green Goblin gang not long ago!

If it weren't for Urich, he might already be dead.

"Lady, I understand, but what you don't understand is that some people won't follow your rules. Those people might follow my rules! And my rule is violence!"

People like Aunt May would stand in the light to illuminate the world.

But people like him were destined to remain in the shadows.

He was Peter, the Peter who crossed over from the 21st century, but he was also Spider-Man, the Shadow Spider-Man!

Peter turned and left.

He was going to settle this matter.

He didn't know how the flow of time worked between this world and his own, but based on his understanding, he was likely using something akin to quantum entanglement to enter this world from his own and attach to the Shadow Spider-Man's body.

So theoretically, at least while he was attached, the time in both worlds should be synchronized.

There were about four hours left until morning in his world, and Mr. Stark said he'd visit in the morning, so as long as he returned within four hours, he'd be fine.

After briefly sorting out his affairs, Peter began to think about the Green Goblin gang's whereabouts.

If nothing went wrong, the other two people who could help him—Felicia and Jonah—were likely there.

"The meat processing plant!"

"Urich's files called this place the 'execution room,' a common 'office' for the Green Goblin gang. If nothing unexpected happens, it should be here, right?"

Peter stood on the rooftop of a factory building and found a skylight, but it was locked.

That didn't stop Peter, though. He reached out, grabbed one side of the skylight, and with a fierce pull, under his strength of over ten tons, the skylight quickly deformed and was entirely ripped off!

Peter casually tossed the deformed skylight aside—don't expect him to pay for it.

Besides, if everything went smoothly, after today, the Green Goblin gang would cease to exist. Who would come to him for compensation?

Peter climbed down the wall, his keen hearing quickly picking up human voices.

Following the voices, he finally saw his targets.

Below were two massive cages.

One cage held the kidnapped J. Jonah Jameson, chained up, looking haggard, clearly having suffered a lot.

The other cage held a large tiger, which Peter had seen in Urich's files—it was Kraven the Hunter's companion.

Several people stood in front of the cages.

The "Green Goblin" Norman Osborn, Kraven the Hunter, and... Felicia!

Felicia had indeed been brought here.

"Oh~ Felicia, my dear, what should I do with you?" The Green Goblin said, hands in his pockets, looking at Felicia.

"Hmph, you can apologize to me, Osborn," Felicia maintained her usual cold demeanor. She was the owner of the Black Cat Bar, a ruthless woman capable of killing decisively. "Then you can have one of your lackeys call me a car."

"Call a car? Hehehe~" The Green Goblin let out an inexplicable laugh. "I admire your bravado, dear, but it won't do you any good."

With that, he pointed to the cage nearby. "Why don't you ask Jameson? He's been cursing me for a week, but he still can't escape the fate of having his guts ripped out."

"Thompson!" Felicia turned her head and noticed the man locked in the corner cage, shocked.

"Why so surprised?" The Green Goblin tutted. "Oh~ right, you thought Jameson was shot dead by Spider-Man a few hours ago, didn't you?"

"But I know this because I have informants in City Hall. What about you? How did you know?"

"Let me guess, let me guess, dear~" The Green Goblin slowly paced around Felicia. "Spider-Man is connected to you, right? He's your little lover? You sent him to kill Thompson, didn't you?"

Felicia's expression turned grim. "Like you sent Thompson to kill Ben Urich? Do you think you're clever, Osborn?"

"What do you mean?" The Green Goblin's face darkened, staring intently at Felicia.
