Chapter 3 - CHAPTER 2: Names without Meaning

It had been two weeks.

Two weeks of that Alpha showing up where he wasn't wanted. Sitting too close. Speaking too softly. Smiling like he wasn't a threat.

Two weeks of Kairo Ren—transfer student, golden boy, walking contradiction—thinking he could "figure Ayan out."

He couldn't.

And Ayan was getting tired of the game.

---

🕯️ Library – Thursday Evening

Ayan sat in the farthest corner, away from scent trails, away from noise. He liked it quiet—silent enough to hear his own breathing, quiet enough to stay in control.

And then… that scent again.

Warm, spiced, sweet—like safety laced with danger.

He didn't need to look up. He already knew.

Kairo sat down across from him.

> "You're always here this time," Kairo said casually, dropping his bag with a thump.

Ayan didn't answer.

> "Makes me wonder—do you like routines? Or do you just hate people?"

Still silence.

Kairo leaned in slightly, but not enough to breach the invisible line between them.

> "You could at least look at me."

Slowly, Ayan raised his gaze. His eyes were cold, unreadable.

> "Why do you talk to me?" he asked, voice flat and void of warmth.

"Because you're quiet? Because I sit alone? Do I look like a project to you?"

Kairo blinked. "What? No—"

> "Then stop acting like I'm supposed to respond. You're not interesting, Ren. You're predictable. Soft. Too eager."

"I don't need company. Especially not yours."

That should've ended it. Most people would've walked away.

But Kairo just tilted his head, a faint smile still on his lips.

> "Wow. You're really committed to the 'mysterious lone wolf' thing, huh?"

Ayan's jaw twitched.

> "Don't mistake silence for mystery. It's just disinterest."

The Alpha looked at him for a moment longer—searching, maybe. But Ayan met his stare with nothing. No shift. No flicker.

Finally, Kairo exhaled a soft chuckle and leaned back.

> "Alright. Message received. I'll stop being friendly…"

He stood, slinging his bag over one shoulder.

> "…but I'll keep watching. Just so you know."

Ayan's fingers curled slightly under the table—but he didn't flinch.

He simply said, "Then I hope you enjoy being disappointed."

🌧 Late Night – Ayan's Apartment

The door clicked shut behind him.

Ayan slid the lock twice. Took a breath. Then another. The scent blockers were wearing thin again—he could feel it under his skin. That itch. That tight pull.

That Alpha had been too close.

> Kairo Ren.

Too soft. Too present. Too curious.

And too much like the ones who smiled before they bared their teeth.

Ayan sat on the floor, letting the cold tiles press against his spine.

> "You're not interesting," he whispered to himself.

"And I'm not letting you in."

Because secrets were only safe in silence.

And Alpha attention? Was always a warning.
