Chapter 10: Elyria's Secrets

Elyria stood like a dream sculpted in starlight, the city's towers carved from silver-veined obsidian, its streets paved in black glass that shimmered beneath the twin moons of Valyria. Though the once-proud city-state had become a client of the Freehold, it kept its ancient pride, and its deepest secrets locked behind a thousand veils of magic and deception.

Aerion Vórenyx entered through its eastern gate not as a petitioner, but as a storm.

Flanked by his fleet's captains and the sorceress Vaena Qelarys, he rode on a drake born of his own taming—a winged beast he'd bound in the mountains of Veltheryon months ago. The creature roared, casting its shadow across the capital.

The Mirror Sanctum

Elyria's leaders, the Council of Nine Mirrors, received him with stiff formality. They wore veils of illusion magic, each face flickering between beauty, horror, and shadow. Their voices echoed as if spoken through polished glass.

High Mirror Essarion spoke first.

"You come to take, dragonlord."

"I come to awaken," Aerion replied, holding the Heart of Murghal aloft. "And your city stands upon a threshold of power none but I can cross."

They laughed, and yet none left their thrones.

Vaena stepped forward. "You are all dying. Slowly, beautifully. But dying. Your magic rots from the inside. Your gods sleep. Only he can give them form again."

The laughter stopped.

Secret One: The Living Vault

Beneath the city, within a forgotten cistern, Aerion found the first of Elyria's secrets — a vault made not of stone, but of flesh.

Dozens of captured minds and magical entities were imprisoned within a creature older than the Freehold, its body twisted into a labyrinth of muscle and whispering runes.

At its center pulsed a crystal — the Mindcore.

Aerion placed his palm upon it.

The vault shuddered. A voice echoed:

"You are not of this age... but you are ours now."

Aerion smiled. "I belong to no one."

Secret Two: The Ash Oracle

In the mountain temple of Vhassor, a chained seer — the last Oracle of Elyria — spoke through burned lips.

"The Doom comes. The chains break. The blood tide rises."

"What must I do?" Aerion asked.

She answered with a riddle:

"When the eye turns black and the sea walks, find the flame that cannot die. It waits where stars fall and gods are born."

System Update: Prophecy Triggered — Doom Cycle Subroutine Awakened

He burned the chains and freed her, granting the Oracle mercy.

In return, she gave him a scroll sealed in her own soul-fire. It screamed as it entered his system.

Ancient Spell Unlocked: Flame of Unmaking

Secret Three: The Vault of Mirrors

The final secret lay in the High Tower, where reflections ruled.

Aerion faced his own doppelgänger — a mirror-image given life by ancient conjurations.

It fought with his skill. Knew his thoughts.

But not his will.

He shattered the mirror with Wyrmshear, catching the shards in mid-air, inscribing them into his armor.

Trait Gained: Mirrorforged — +15% Magic Resistance, +Perception

Fire Claims the Silver City

With power secured, Aerion addressed the Council one final time.

"You hid your truths. I turned them into blades. From this day, Elyria answers to House Vórenyx."

And strangely... they bowed.

Essarion's mirrored face shimmered into that of a weary, proud man.

"You are the first to conquer without destruction. We accept you. But the flame must never die."

Aerion stepped onto his drake's back, the Heart of Murghal glowing beside the Oracle's scroll.

"Then I will become the fire that never fades."
