Chapter 5 - Fire

Slums of Trancosco, Sector B

18th February 2226, 8:53 am

"Boss, I think this bitch is dead," Mendes said to Davi very casually, as if reporting a minor inconvenience.

"Just burn him with the house."

Davi spoke with indifference; his warm tone and gentle smile from earlier were now gone, replaced by a bone-chilling coldness.

Davi began searching for something while Mendes tossed the body of a young male with black hair and blue eyes onto the corner of the rundown brick house.

This was naturally Ray's body. If you look closer, you may notice that Ray is currently breathing quite slowly, and his skin has turned pale and cold.

No, he isn't dead but is in a sort of hibernating state where his body is using the minimum possible energy to survive, a side effect of using his innate skill {Inversed Tower of Manas}.

Davi and Mendes, however, don't care about whether he is dead or not.

They didn't find what they were looking for and decided to burn the house along with Ray.

.

.

In the white room, Ray noticed some changes.

The room seemed to be much bigger now; there was also a few pieces of furniture in the room.

A wooden chair and a glass table

When Ray touched this glass table, a golden interface opened up.

On it were profiles of thousands of people, demons, angels, and even some that could only be called monsters.

Ray noticed three things common with all of them. First of all, they all seemed to be not from this world. Secondly, they were all intelligent creatures; there weren't animals like his new shadow wolf familiar. And thirdly, they were all divided based on rarity.

Common, Uncommon, Rare, Ultra Rare, Epic, Heroic, Unique, Legendary, Mythical

The lower he scrolled, the rarer the ranks became, and below Mythical were still an endless amount of locked profiles; their rarity remained unknown.

And then he noticed that all these individuals could be summoned as familiars.

However, he needed points for that. He looked at the left corner of the interface and found that he currently had 20 points, and even the lowest familiar was priced at 100 points.

"What a scam!"

Ray found that there were also potions, skills, and much equipment for sale in the interface, which Ray now called the 'Tower Market.'

He decided not to buy anything rashly, and then his gaze fell on the crystal door on the floor; it now had the number 2 etched onto it.

"So that's how it is... I am now on the lower floor; this should be level 2"

Ray was feeling tired from dying too many times; his hands were still shaking. He realized that death is not something he can easily get used to.

The moment Ray thought of leaving, a holographic window opened up in front of him, which had only two words on it: 'exit' and 'cancel.'

Ray pressed 'exit,' and he found that his body was aching everywhere. Mendes had beaten him up too badly, and before he opened his eyes, he smelled something.

"Fire" Ray opened his eyes and saw his house slowly burning.

The smell of gasoline made it obvious that this wasn't an accident.

Ray tried to open the window, but

What happens when air rushes into a room full of gasoline vapor?

The fire burned explosively, burning Ray's face and body in the intense heat.

Ray somehow escaped, but now his house is no more, and he is half burned with multiple broken bones.

The neighborhood was here to see the spectacle; many people were watching from a distance, yet no one tried to help.

Ray realized it was pointless to stick around, so he stood up and limped towards the edge of the forest. On the way, he was casting his new skill, minor heal, on himself.

He found that this skill requires that he be able to use this skill continuously for 6 seconds and has to wait for his mana to recover; he currently has 6 mana points.

The first time he used it, it helped heal most of his burns and some of his bruises; however, his bones were still broken and his body was still in pain.

Ray found a river in the forest; the water was icy, and the wind was cold.

It was still snowing.

"Why did I run to the forest? Is it because of what happened in the tower?"

Ray felt it was funny that he subconsciously found it safer in the forest than with other humans.

He washed his face in cold water and looked at his reflection in the water in his hand.
