Droveil,

Nighthaven,

Central Nighthaven, Salem district,

Federal University Of Technology Drexmar.

Kalen and his mother sat quietly at the universities administrative office. His verification had been completed a day prior, so today was his official registration.

Every thing needed paying had been paid and the mother, son duo had received all necessary documents. As they waited, the door creaked open then someone walked in.

A potbellied man momentarily galavanted behind them before walking up to them and taking the administrator's seat.

He looked over at the papers in his hands and said, " So, Mrs Helen, had your son been affiliated with the so called gangs which run about our streets. "

Helen looked over at Kalen then at the man who hadn't spared them a glance. " Not that I know of. " His mother replied, " So you mean to say he hasn't been involved in a police case before. "

" Yes, " his mother answered.

The administrator let out a low chuckle and looked up at the registrants for the first time. " Then pray for him. " he said leaving the room in to settle in a ponderous silence.

No one said anything else till, Kalen was given his dorm room number. He was then handed, a facility course scheme of work in the study of Automobile engineering.

They both left the office, the tension between the mother and son duo, awkward and tense. As they left, a girl and her father entered. Kalen and this familiar girl shot a momentary gaze at each other.

This sight, soured Kalen's mood, for some reason, he felt uncomfortable. They walked out of the towering building which served as the lecturers Facility and Departmental Lounge.

" I should probably send you some money, " his mother said bringing out her phone. " No ma, " he replied, " I've got some cash which would go me a while, so use that money to move to a better area and maybe change Mavlin to a new school. "

His mother tried to speak but he silence her saying, " Take care of yourself ma, lay back a little, don't worry yourself over me, I and Michael registered for a profitable side hustle, it's totally legal so you don't have to worry. "

Looking at how hard her son was trying for them, tears gathered in her eyes. Kalen hugged her stressed from tightly, whispering in her ear, " It would be alright ma. "

She broke from the hug and cupped Kalen's cheeks. " Take care of yourself, Obi. " He nodded with a warm smile. Motioning him to go on, he turned, walked a few paces before turning to wave her good bye, then walked forward.

Wiping her teary eyes, Helen watched as her son's form disappeared in the background crowd. " Only if you were here to watch them grow, Alan " She muttered inaudibly take her leave from the institution.

Kalen had entered an important turning point in his existence, with his story commencing. He would go through ups and downs.

Challenges would rise and it would be his conviction to pull through, achieve his goals and write the path he would choose to follow.

Male Hostel, Room 362

The constant ringings of his alarm stirred Kalen awake. He rubbed his sleepy eyes, thanking his luck for the personal room he was given. He got up and had his face washed.

Fighting the sleep, he began his morning workout. A tedious schedule he followed dutifully for twelve years, increasing the difficulty as he got stronger.

Currently he did several varieties of pushups all amounting to a thousand and five hundred. Five hundred sit ups, a thousand squats, A fifty kilometer run and a forty five minutes plank hold.

A myriad of others also followed, the duration of his workout lasted up to four hours. All those years of hard work had help create his muscular athletic built.

8:12am, Kalen dropped the his knees, literally sweating buckets. He had a bath, dressed up and headed out for the day's lecture by 9 o'clock.

Walking out of his room, it was still early for the students. The air felt fresh and calm, the U-shaped five floor hostel painted dark brown had a contrast to the atmosphere.

Noise blared loudly, creating a never ending cacophony of different active speakers clashing with each other. The air was filled with a strong stench of hard drugs and blood.

The walls enclosing the dormatory area were colored rainbow with different graffiti letters. ' At least the compound is tidy today, ' he said walking to the underground garage where his bike was parked.

Moving across the compound, he reached into his pockets and checked for his weapons. Once he verified they were intact, he continued; the feeling of being watched pressing hard against him.

When he got into the garage, he couldn't find his bike were he left it; a car parked on the exact spot. Confused, he looked around and found it in-between two sports cars.

' Damnit, I forgot to activate the electrifying defense system ' he cursed rushing over to his bike. When he reached, a logo pasted on both the car's bonnets made him pause.

A falcon in a black background, he sighed riding is bike out of the enclosure. After scanning for any sort of damages or markings, he found none.

He slotted his key into the bike and revved it up. " Yo!! Is that your bike, " a voice called out. Kalen looked over at three boys in distinct black jackets walking towards him.

Two were burly twenty to thirty year olds, the speaker wasn't a year older than him. Kalen knew they were up to no good, so he remained silent. " Yo, I said, does that belong to you. " The blue eyed boy said again.

" Well it ain't yours, " Kalen replied not giving in the the blonde's presence. A chuckle left the handsome boy's lips, " Your a newbie, yes, you don't know much about this place so I would let that disrespect slide."

Now the boys were invading his private space, but he was waiting for the slightest of movements to strike. The boy ran his hand through the bike's slick design.

" I would let you ride it for a few days, but bare in mind to pay me a thousand grand or I am coming for my bike. " The boy said tapping Kalen's shoulder.

" Come Les, let's get out of here. " One of the boy's lackeys said amidst a chuckle. The boys turned around and left, leaving kalen with mixed feelings.

Wasting no time, he drove out of the garage and the male hostel entirely. Arriving at the main learning facility within seconds, he parked his bike in the lot, switched on his bike's security system and left for classes.

Minutes passed and he was at the lecture room, waiting for a lecturer or professor. Students crept in little by little as time moved by in a snail pace.

He had to change his sitting position a few times. Everyone entering looked at him as if he was a demon in their presence.

Instead of returning their curious gazes, he switched on his phone and played a mobile game. Not moments passed, someone walked past his seat and dropped something on his table.

Kalen looked up at the folded paper on his desk, ' Ahh, pleasant ' he thought sarcastically. The one who had dropped the paper was long gone.

If there was anything he loved, that was mysteries and it was his hobby to solve them. Opening the paper, he saw the writings, " Meet me at the bronze statue. "

Kalen sighed, his mind contemplating on who the writer was, whether it would be dangerous and if he would go. His path was already set.
