Chapter 2 - THE CRY OF A PRINCE

It seems I was finally able to calm down — only to find myself being breastfed by my human mother.

I can't believe an absolute being such as myself had to get breastfed to stop crying.

But then again, with all the strange events going on, I'm not even surprised anymore.

Wait a minute — something's wrong.

Why am I feeling sleepy all of a sudden?

This must be the work of the breast I'm sucking on.

"Stop this at once!! I do not wish to fall asleep," I mumbled, but to no use.

My little human body refused to listen to me as I continuously sucked on.

How am I supposed to continue assessing the situation if I fall asleep here?

My body just kept sucking while dozing off. I did my best to resist the sleep, but instead, the urge kept piling up — until I finally gave in and fell asleep.

It's all dark. I can't see a thing due to the utter darkness, except for my human mother beside me, who is fast asleep.

The noises I kept hearing were gone, and it was utterly quiet compared to the daytime.

The sudden silence of the middle of the night made me lost in thoughts as I began to ponder the situation I found myself in.

What the hell is going on?

What happened to me?

How is it that I'm in a human child's body?

Is this all perhaps a dream?

No! It can't be. The tremendous amount of pain I felt earlier from that scary maid's slap definitely was not a dream.

Then how is all this possible?

Maybe… reincarnation art?

That is the only possible explanation I can think of. But humans shouldn't be able to use forbidden magic such as the art of reincarnation.

And if they did manage to use it… what benefit would they get from reincarnating me?

No! It's not possible — I'm overthinking it.

The Art of Reincarnation is a high-tier forbidden magic that can only be used by very few powerful individuals, due to its high requirements in mana control and excessive sacrifices.

I also never engaged myself in such magic.

Just what is going on?

I can't even find out what's happening since I'm unable to move this damn little human body.

The only thing in my control are these tiny arms — which are absolutely useless.

I haven't been able to sense any mana to cast magic or spells, due to this human body being newly born.

As if all that wasn't bad enough, I can't seem to utter a single word from my mouth.

I stopped the thoughts that were driving me mad and started to look at my human mother's gorgeous face — the only thing glowing in the darkness of the night.

Surprisingly, her face was quite heart-soothing.

I took a deep breath to remind myself how much I've really missed breathing, and how I need to solve the situation at hand.

I must be patient.

I have to keep the flow of being a normal human baby — at least until my body grows and I'm able to fully control its movements.

I can rest assured that the humans will definitely take good care of me, since they all think I'm their little prince.

I closed my eyes and went back to sleep after the long and exhausting thoughts.

The next morning, I was woken up by the sudden warmth of hot water — which seemed to have been boiled to a degree where my little human body could handle it.

I was being bathed by the two maids I saw yesterday.

The one with the blonde bob cut — Lina — hummed a cheerful, if slightly off-key, tune as she tested the water with her elbow.

"Perfectly warm for our little prince!" she chirped, accidentally splashing a small puddle onto the floor.

I find these two maids quite strange; they are polar opposites.

Maelis, whose jet-black hair was pulled back with severe precision, said nothing. She simply procured a towel from a nearby stack and placed it over the puddle with a pointed, silent look.

Lina only offered a sheepish giggle in response.

Their dynamic was... perplexing. One overflowed with ceaseless noise and motion, the other with a profound, unbending silence.

After the bath was done, I was dressed up and taken to my human mother by the same maids.

My human mother also appeared to have refreshed. Her long silver hair looked much more organized and groomed. The dark circles around her eyes were long gone, and that brought out her outstanding glamorous beauty even more.

Her breathing was also stable compared to before.

She wore a long flowing gown of royal blue and silver trim, accentuating her elegant and queenly appearance.

A voice suddenly went loud, announcing the king's entrance into the queen's chamber.

A huge human male — who appeared to be the king — came in and started to approach me and my human mother. All who were in the chamber bowed down to greet him as he approached, emitting the vibe of a powerful and dignified king.

The king had a manly-looking face, with piercing golden eyes that gave off a commanding presence. His long black hair was tied back neatly, with the sides falling over his shoulders, and a fully trimmed black beard sharpened the noble angles of his face.

He wore a regal white coat adorned with gold embroidery and a cloak fastened with a dragon-shaped brooch.

As he got to us, the servants excused themselves, leaving only me in my mother's arms and the king.

He looked down at us with gentle eyes, then embraced my mother and whispered,

"Ardey, I was so worried about you."

She whispered back,

"I missed you too, my King."

They started to tighten their hug, totally forgetting that there is a fragile human baby between them —

And by fragile human baby, I meant me.

Hey! You're squeezing too hard. I... can't... breathe!

Eventually, I managed to let out a cry, reminding the two crazy lovebirds that there was a fragile great being between them.

The king quickly stepped back and said,

"Oh my, who do we have here?"

"Who do we have here," he dares to ask.

He wouldn't have noticed me at all, his eyes having been fixed upon my human mother from the moment he entered.

I understand her appeal, but their public displays are... excessive.

Have they forgotten the fragile great being caught between them?

And by fragile great being, I meant me.

Though I suppose this chamber is their private space.

My mother smiled and replied,

"He's our son."

The king lifted me gently in his arms and smiled.

"He looks just as beautiful as you."

My mother blushed and thanked him.

Then came the sound of hurried footsteps. Three girls, each dressed in lavish but distinct royal dresses, entered the chamber — my sisters.

The eldest among them had long, wavy black hair and deep violet eyes. She looked a bit older than the remaining two and wore a confident smirk. Her regal red and gold gown screamed self-importance. You could tell she loved attention.

The two girls beside her were twins, probably ten years old. Both had silver hair like our mother but styled differently — one had hers tied in twin tails, the other had a short bob cut. They wore matching white and blue dresses, their golden eyes filled with wonder and similar to their father.

The eldest stepped forward, placing a hand on her hip.

"Hmm... he almost has the same eyes as them..." she said, narrowing her eyes while looking directly at me.

I wondered what she meant by that, as the room stiffened slightly.

The king, still smiling, turned to her and gently placed a hand on her shoulder.

"That's enough, Theria," he said softly but firmly.

"Don't go scaring your baby brother on the first day you meet him."

Theria rolled her eyes but gave a playful huff.

"Fine. I was just saying."

The twins leaned in curiously. One of them asked,

"Can we hold him too, Daddi?"

The king chuckled, looking back to my mother.

"What do you think, my Queen?"

She nodded and smiled.

"Let them bond."

With me out of her hands, he grabbed my mother by the waist, pulled her closer till there was no space between them.

Her face, full of surprise by his sudden action, he said.

"Have you thought of a name for him? Following our agreement of you naming the child, if it is a boy."

Her face back to normal, trying to hide her blush, by not looking him in the eye, she said.

"Yes actually, I have."

"What is it?"

He asked, their face, closer than ever.

She finally made the eye contact and said.

"It's NADIEL."

And so, I found myself being passed around between three overly affectionate and curious sisters.

This human life might just end up being more exhausting than being a dragon.
