Chapter 166 - 166: A Face I knew

We kept moving deeper into the passage Scott had indicated, my shadows still wrapped around him like the world's most aggressive security blanket. The narrow corridor seemed to stretch on forever, twisting and turning like it was trying to lose us on purpose.

Elias suddenly stopped walking.

His head tilted slightly, nostrils flaring as he took in a deep breath. The expression that crossed his face made my stomach drop somewhere around my ankles.

"I smell someone," he said quietly, his voice careful and controlled in that way that meant he was trying not to freak me out. "Someone who smells... like you, Maeve."

My heart, which I'd thought was already beating as fast as physically possible, somehow managed to kick into an even higher gear. "Like me? What do you mean like me?"

But he was already moving forward again, faster now, and I had to practically jog to keep up while dragging Scott along behind me.
