Elias' POV
I watched Maeve run, and every instinct I possessed screamed at me to follow her.
My legs twitched with the urge to chase, to comfort, to pull her into my arms and tell her that everything would be all right, even though we both knew it wouldn't be.
But I stood there, frozen like a coward, watching the girl I cared about more than I would like to admit disappear into the forest carrying the weight of what she'd done.
She's even more dangerous and powerful than I ever thought she was, Rex whispered in my mind, my lycan's voice carrying a tremor. Even he was afraid.
I nodded, rubbing my eyes as exhaustion settled into my bones like lead. The events of yesterday felt like they'd happened to someone else, like a nightmare I couldn't quite shake. But the memory was there, demanding to be acknowledged.
