The world tilted sideways.
I stared at Nicklaus, his words echoing in my head like a broken record. Go back to Moonveil Academy. That's the only chance any of us have.
"Are you insane?" I laughed, but it came out sharp and hysterical. "I just discovered you were a vampire on Tuesday—Tuesday, Nicklaus! And now Lucian's been kidnapped and you want me to just... go back to school? Like nothing happened?"
The absurdity of it all crashed over me in waves. Less than two months week ago, my biggest worry was fitting in at Moonveil. Now I was standing in the middle of the woods, discussing vampire politics with a creature who'd been ordered to murder my entire family.
"I can't even get a goddamn break," I whispered, pressing my palms against my temples. The vision of Lucian's bloodied face flashed behind my eyelids, and I felt like I was going to be sick.
That's when Freya completely lost it.
