HOPE
The room falls quiet, and Josie's eyes shift between Kaleb and me. I try not to look guilty, which should be easy because I've done nothing wrong, but I think I fail miserably.
Josie giggles, but it's an awkward sound. "I see you're having a beautiful dinner without me."
"Without you? What the fuck are you doing here in the first place? And I see you're completely fine."
"We have a very strong healer at Newheaven, and thankfully she obtained lots of internal injury but less of external injury. You're disappointed, right? It's fine to be in my position for once. Just like you, who tried to sacrifice her so you'd live, she sacrificed Olivia to stay alive," Klaus says.
My stomach drops. "Wait—Olivia is dead?" The words fall from my mouth before I can even think. Shock ripples through me like ice water under my fucking skin. I was so sure she'd survived. Olivia was strong. Resourceful. She deserved to live.
