Chapter 150 - What Was Missing?

The afternoon warmth soon fizzled out, leaving a chilly breeze whispering through the air.

Elijah stared out of the window as tiny droplets rained down, wetting the dry ground.

"You can wear a scarf if you want to hide them. It's going to be cold from tomorrow."

Alexei's words proved true as the droplets grew heavier.

Dark gray clouds instantly shrouded the evening sky. A streak of silver tore through them, followed by a deep rumble.

It felt ominous for some reason.

As if those earlier warm days were just an illusion, and he was back to his bleak life.

His gaze subconsciously drifted toward the empty living room.

The red butterfly that used to flutter around was nowhere to be seen. Oddly enough, the comfortable silence had become too muted to his ears.

He flipped open the book, focusing on the scatter of inky scribbles across the page.

Minutes ticked by, and only then did he turn the first page. His reading speed was awfully slow today.
